Supreme Commander Thread!

Can you upgrade the weapons AND the construction-arm at the same time? Or, do you have to choose which path to take? (Example: Amazing firepower with T1 build skill, or amazing build speed with low firepower....ect)

Your commander has three slot categories. You can not have a fully combat ready Commander that is also great at building things. Each slot can only have one path chosen but if you wish to revert back to original form you can do that also.

Cool - I think I'll go with the speed-build option. When you upgrade that speed-build option, does it cost more for him to build? Is there an increased penalty with his increased power?

No, all buildings cost the same amount and no building bots have penalties. He will use a lot up though since he builds so quickly. I normally take this route as well since once your commander dies your building rate decreases a lot (at least in skirmish).

A T3 artillery costs the same no matter how quickly it builds. The RATE at which that cost is expended, well, thats proportional to how quickly it finishes.

^ Thanks for the info.

Damn, I tried to go against a Hard enemy....it wasn't pretty. Haha.

If saves didn't average 75-300MiB, Id send you mine form last night see if you can finish it. When I do finish (had to sleep, twas 1:30AM) Ill send you the replay. Might be able to see any problems with your build setup.

I tried the Sorian AI before, it sucked just as bad as the regular AI. I haven't played with the new patch enough to see if the stock AI has been improved any, but it doesn't much seem like it. I walked all over 2 supreme AIs and I haven't even played the game in over a month. In fact, the crappy AI is one of the main reasons I stopped playing.

And that is the reason why Sorian's AI sucked. It only has just begun to get good and it is much better than vanilla.

Saberwulf you need to download the AI Merge pack from Sorian and Thidlaw AI (once its released for the patch) and try a Sorian C or a Thidlaw C... I gurantee you it will give you a run for your money.

Looks like I'll have to give it another shot, then. I bought SupCom knowing it was gonna be an awesome game, but I was sorely disappointed to find the stock AI so severely lacking. As I generally play co-op with my friends against any number of computers, the advice I often get of "play against other people" is not really of much use.

Just tested SupCom out on my laptop before this patch was getting 15-20 fps now I am getting +30 FPS. I noticed a huge increase in performance :) loving this new patch.

This is my problem as well. My buddy and I are the RTS fiends in our group and after having played the beta extensively, we were ready for the actual AI on release. Sadly, as you well know, it's severely lacking. hopefully Sorian's new AI will fix that and I can finally enjoy some comp stomps.

Sorian released v2.0 of his AI (get the merged pack so you can select Thirdlaw's as well). Make sure to use the cheating AI as I feel it does much better than the regular, though the regular doesn't do that bad either. It still isn't that much of a challenge (I usually play 1v2 cheating AIs and win) but it is a much needed improvement. The AI dev from GPG only had a month to completely write up the AI and implement it in. Only if he had more time...

I think I got a 10+FPS increase in my game from the patch (All settings high, 1680x1050 res). Everything is much smoother.

1600x1200 everything maxed on \\vilya and I didn't see much of a gain. I think most of the GPU optimizations were for low end hardware. Pity.

I have to check on fixed mods again now.
exaviors, (not the omni changes, but the rest), modded ASFs, battle isles R2, big fatboy, sorians, couple of the mods I usually use.

Can't wait to get this fired up on my new hardware:

e4300
P5B D
2GB ddr2-800
x1950xt.

Just came in today.

Better smoke my laptop :p

Does the big Fatbody mod make it physicly bigger? Is there a similar mod for the fly fortress? I loved the scale in SupComm but always felt that these needed to be bigger. Same stats, just bigger.

pssh... you need a laptop that can run SupCom :). Nothing like playing SupCom skirmish on the airplane. Sounds good you should be able to run SupCom full settings with that system there :), enjoy.

The fatboy mod doubles the dimensions (4x the area) and adds air construction as well as the full T3 range instead of just engineers.

Link to a decent mod site?

EDIT: Better yet, can anyone tell me how to go about knocking together a little mod that does nothing except change the size of a few units?

The Tactical Missile (non Nuke) Range Mod is Required to make them useful.
As it stands right now, using them is almost pointless as the range is so small, by the time you start to fire them off the target is almost in return firing range. This Mod makes them able to hit a realistic distance away.

What would be nice is a Mod that makes them work like Point Defense, Auto Fire at targets.

arph?
Tact missiles have the exact same range as T2 fixed artillery. Its not exactly short.

The one thing I would like to see is T2 mobile missile launchers range moving to near T3 mobile arty range and T3 mobile arty increased by 50%. Accuracy already is pretty bad for artillery, the range really needs to compensate.

The only problem i have with Tact missiles is the Aeon defense really sucks, the range is fine for me, small maps is where they come into play you can take out a commander really quick.

The new patch has mostly balanced most things, however the T2 cybran tanks are little on the weakside and mobile tactical missle launcher seems much weaker then its peers.

Are you kidding? Aeon have the best tac missile defense.

Stationary tactical missiles suck since you have to fire them manually, the short range makes you micro manage them. The T2 artillery while madly ineffective versus T4 units, really smacks groups and fires automatically. The tactical launchers are also very good vs groups but work much better vs a single target since you have to fire them manually, reselecting the target. So as I was saying, the Range Mod really makes them much better to use, since you have more time to fire before the target can fight back.
When you are taking down a colossus or 3 commanders, being able to have a few extra seconds to kill them before they get in close is much better!

They make a mod that will auto fire the tac missiles, i hear that one works well.

Would that mean they cover the most area with the best defense?

It works well don't get me wrong, but you really pay in the area of coverage

yes, the AOC is low, but pretty much 100% effective
take 4-5 UEF tac defs covering the same area and they will work less well than one Aeon one. (I haven't seen if this changed post patch)

Magic!

Do people play alot against the AI like comp stomp games on starcraft? I was thinking of picking up a copy of SC now that they seem to have addressed performance issues with this patch....

If you make it, they will come

I'm skimming this thread but cannot find what I am looking for.

Anyone know of a place to go where I can see an overview of the different units, or maybe a scan of the poster that came in the retail package?

I did not get the poster, Just the disk with my MoBo.:(

Maybe not as pretty as a poster, but you will find all the information you could possibly want about supcom units there, including info from older patch versions

Yeah I just got the CD with my Mobo as well (Well mobo + CPU heh). Thanks for the link I didn't know there was a poster I missed out on <.<

Edit, oh while I'm here... anyone have a link to the post (I think it was on their official boards) that had the best way to use mass fabs and power gens?

Also, is there a way to make turrets not suck? If you stick them on the edge of a hill they will just shoot themselves / each other. I was playing on one of the maps (4 player map) and it had some nice choke points as you head upto the bases, but my turrets just destroyed each other by the time the enemy was able to be hit by them.

Or has this been fixed in a recent patch? :)

supposedly the new patch checks for terrain blocking fire against targets.

Take a look at this video: Link

Been using his mod. Would prefer if he released the explosions as a separate file but the balance changes aren't bad.

/me just finished a 77 minute game of supcom.
Too many mods to list, but one of them caused (or maybe I was hitting my ram limit, dont know) the game to crash like every 5 minutes during the main 60 minutes of the game (beginning and end were ok). Twas playing at about half speed IRL :(
Game was 3v3 on burial mounds. Supreme+Sorian2.1b+Jaws2002 water 2.1b vs self+Jaws2002+sorian. Each team had 1 each aeon/cybran/UEF. I grabbed a UEF engineer, (played cybran), but didn't have a chance to grab an aeon one.

IIRC my points were in the 7 million range, with each friendly in the 6 mill range and 5/5/3 from the enemy ones. I capped each of the enemy ACUs. Naval assault killed the Aeon AI on the lower spot on the western shore. 2 spots up an assault of a wing on mixed bombers and broadswords, mavor fire to clear anti nukes and a nuke to wipe the main defenses out did the job. For the third spot I overran it with a few nukes, speed built a second mavor (maybe 10 minutes, max), and sent in another wing of bombers over 4 monkeylords. Oh, and I also moved the navy up to help out. I didn't want to lose my navy to their torpedoes, so their naval yard complex got nuked. ;)

Total of *71* experimentals were built. And I only did 19 (counting a pack of avalon user made gunships) in there. The enemy UEF had a habit of sending fat boys to attack my shoreline. Shoreline was guarded by a monkeylord. You do the math (5 FBs). The Aeon AI had a tendancy to send GCs and CZARs. Its a long walk accross the sea, the GCs got owned by naval forces (repeatedly), and the CZARs at least broke my friendly dudes shorelines once or twice. Stupid AI sucks at shoreline defenses.

Twas lots of fun, outside of the frustration of having to save every 4 minutes (literally).

We need more war stories in here.
