this sort of post is probably better suited for a different forum. everyone here is a diehard enthusiast/gamer working with current 'mainstream' technology.

sucks youre getting so much shit for your storage purchases

i bet if MaximumPC reviewed some of your planned scsi purchases, all these flamers would be praising you.

Now that is a constructive post. Geez...

Why not get AMD/ATI/etc etc etc, blah blah blah

He's explained what he want he's going to do. He doesn't like AMD. It doesn't matter why...he just does. He likes Nvidia drivers. Does Nvdia make drivers for Ati cards? No...drop it already. He also pointed out that he is an Intel/Nvidia fanboy. Deal with that too. He didn't post to get everyone's opinion on what they would do with the money, he asked if there would possibly be any issues with it. Some people have made some constructive suggestions and he has taken them into consideration. (Power supply, etc)

To those who have made claims that x86-64bit is where its at. Someone (don't want to go find it) pointed out that AMD is chugging along with it and Intel is starting to talk it up. All true. Their next statement was something like "in two years or so..." Hmmm...his last computer was built TWO years ago. He spent a ton of money on it too. Maybe in TWO years when the technology is mature and available in mass production he would consider it. Right now, he said he doesn't want 64-bit, he wants SSE3.

Some of his comments are pretty harsh but most are in response to the rude tone to everyone elses bashing of the way he wants to spend HIS money. When you are his spouse/parent/sibling/HIS BANK you can have an opinion on the way he wants to spend his money. Otherwise, answer his questions constructively or shut the hell up.

Sorry to get up on the soapbox, but you guys are really acting childish. Knowing that the average age here is higher than most, it is just pathetic. This should be locked for all the flaming going on... *sigh*

I am convinced that people who don't like this don't even read what I have to say.
OK That's funny, so I missed your dual monitor setup. But the funny part is you hanging me out for not reading something you said, but you missed most of my post. I said "but after reading 95% of the thread" so I qualified I might be missing a few things. You however only saw 1 line out of mine, so no high horse please? I brought up valid points w/o flames like others. Shame on them.

Having supported hundreds of developers before I can tell you SMP, 64bit (IA64 at the time) and the fasters proc. were at the TOP of their request list. You have none of these things.

At any rate I think your wasting some cash for what appears to be fanboyism, and that's ok, just realize you could get something better for your needs and your choosing not to. It's your cash. You just seem to have carefully studied so many aspects of this machine only to let feelings for one comapny or another hinder it so much.

edit: and 10K but no camera! dammit man!!!

You specifically mean the CPD-G520P? Lesser CPDs are... lesser.

Yup, going to keep them.

Uber-quality (but I'm not a photographer, don't need SLR gunk).

As good as the G5 is, (and it's a great camera, and I love Canon), Sony has em. beat a little.

Sony DSC-F717

EXCELLENT quality. Take a look at their review. Can't get much better without spending thousands. Or, if you want to save some money, the Canon A70/A80 is one of the best mid-range cameras out there.

Looks to me that he's been getting a taste of his own medicine (those who frequented the Webmastering & Programming forum before he earned himself a "vacation" a while back know what I mean (whether or not they agree with me)).

Get a life buddy... you don't impress me whatsoever! You think a 10k$ machine will fancy our pickles?

Seriously, anyone can come here and post a "dream" shopping cart and say that is what they are going to purchase.

BTW, that system is inferior. You are blinding yourself thinking that your Intel "Preshot" will mow the competition. You'd better be looking into dual opterons... or heck... go for the gold and purchase a 4-way since you have your moms platinum discover card.

BTW, 7 years ago I spend $11,500 plus GST & PST on a PowerComputing Machintosh... today it is worth a whole mind boggeling $80... have fun watching your money drain away :p (I also had one of the first 486 DX4's out there... good ol $8,500 wasted for nothing).

Fall back kid... you got nothing but a big mouth and a lot of arrogance in your life.

PS: how much do you pay for sex?

Um how about it's his money, he earned it, he can do whatever the fuck he wants with it.

And sending it to Africa is certainly NOT a worthy cause. I would never help a country who is contstantly at war with itself and it's population is starving because they are too stupid to stop reproducing.

That's all I'll say about that, I don't want to get b7. But your comment had to be answered

Not that it matters, but I don't think that he ever indicated where the money actually came from. For all you know, he could've been gifted it (or even stolen it :p).

Well he aquired it one way or another and now it's his. :p

the only compatibility issues i may see are your income vs. school/computer loans. may not really be an issue though. this thread was one hellava read.

That's a beefy box ;) I love having 2 workstation boxes for everyday use, but right now I'm looking for the best USB KM Switch out there and so far have not found anything amazing...hell I may just design one my self :p

As for the Audigy, I used to have an Audigy Plat eX in my older box, just ripped it out yesturday and woah, the machine runs alot cooler LOL... Audigy 2 was POS and well my card of choice now is M-Audio Rev 7.1. This card is a dream, doesn't break the bank and the drivers rock!

Hope everything works out like planned, post back pics when you get this thing up n' running.. ohh yea, I only looked @ page 1, figured it was packed with people bashing you cause they are either jelous or feel that box is too OTT, but remember it's your money, your machine. This is a free world, enjoy it... :D

How many people do you know who have the human genome sitting around on their computer? :->

I do, I also have a complete compliment of every known protein coded for by the genome, specifically including all structural features (alpha helices, beta sheets, beta barrels, etc. etc.) and the genomic sequences responsible for these tertiary features. My point? I have none, how does owning the human genome sequence make you special, it doesn't .. so stop trying to brag about how special you are (thats all this thread has been about, bragging, and i've had enough of it).

Also, if you are indeed using this computer for scientific research, in any form I can tell you from being an established Biochemist that your computer would be laughed out of any scientific institution for its obvious lack of brute force scientific research, specifically with regards to the genome project (of which i'm an active member, utilizing SGA analysis on Yeast homologies to find proteomic oppurtunities in breast cancer treatment). In fact, the network admin is standing right here now .. he just stopped laughing at your system specs .. and then at your apparent bragging about possesing the human genome sequence. I say .. get a life, and quit PRETENDING to be some sort of super cool, super important programmer .. one thats better then us measly enthusiasts
