Steam iOS and Android App

Downloaded. It's in beta and your first login is the initial sign-up.

i did that and put in the code from the email, but it didn't let me in. I am not sure if you have to do something inside of steam to get it to work (at work on a Mint PC).

Closed beta. If you try to log in right now, all it does is get you applied for a possible beta invite.

sweet, ive been waiting for a steam client on ym phone that would let me chat with my friends. even though its still a beta its a promise of it coming :D

I wonder if this thing will save your login credentials and payment info like the full client does. Just imagine passing out drunk after a night out, and waking up the next day to find out what games your buddies bought on your account after getting ahold of your phone :D...

"Wtf, how did $2000 worth of Railworks DLC end up on my Steam account?!"

:(

"Oh don't worry I didn't give him my real steam handle" - girl to girl at bar after talking to me. :(

Sweet now I can spend more money on games when I'm even not at home to play them lol.

Just got my invite to the beta, along with a giftable guest pass. The notice is sent via your normal Steam client, not via e-mail.

And yes, it does load your payment info if you have it stored on your account, so the unintended purchase scenario I described earlier in the thread is a very real possibility :D

well i just looked though the code to see if there was a way to bypass it without beta access.

seems like steam will send back a steamid and a accesskey if you have access. If not it won't send those information back.

Most likely I need those information to access my account. So no way to bypass login

If you want, pm me the e-mail associated with your Steam account or add me on Steam (username in my sig) and I'll send you a beta invite.

Nice. They seem to have pretty fast turnaround time on getting those beta passes out to people who have been signing up within the past day or so.

Also received my invite today. Works pretty well so far, the store doesn't seem to be loading anything for me, but cool anyway that I can chat with my friends even whilst on the go.

This is why I choose to never save my payment information on any site. I'd rather take the few extra seconds to put in my payment information every time than risk the possibility of getting it either stolen or used to make unauthorized transactions.

About WP7, your going to see a Steam app sooner or later, especially since WP7 apps will be able to run native in Windows 8.

I like the app, have it installed on my iPhone 3Gs and Asus Transformer, both work great. Downloaded the app when it became available, signed in and was told I needed to be in the beta but my name was signed up for it, next day I got my invite (with a friend invite). Can't wait till it goes more tablet friendly, I've had problems with the native Android browser signing into Steam during sales so having a dedicated app is nice, but it is still designed for small screens.

This is nice and all, but what would really be useful is if this mobile app could command your desktop Steam client to start downloading a game you just bought. Have it be ready to play by the time I get home.

I don't see why it wouldn't be possible -- Steam already has "awareness" of whether an instance of itself is online, as shown if you attempt to log in from a client on another machine. So the mobile app should also have awareness of whether a desktop client is online. And the desktop client can already automatically receive patches and updates without requiring user input.

I doubt this is going to be anything more than a chat platform, and *maybe* an achievements platform (more for Android, however).

Ive been testing it for a few weeks now. Its pretty awesome. The ability to chat is long overdue and great now that its here.

If you need to do anything else then remote desktop into your computer with your phone and tell it do it that way.

I use to use LogMeIn from work when ever a game came out that I wanted to play when I got home from work. Works on my iPhone and Android tablet. Another good alternative that doesn't have a mobile access version yet is Windows Live Mesh, big gripe no iOS or Android version.

I have a Steam mobile app invite if anyone wants it. PM me your Steam ID if you aren't already on my list.

I think in future mobile games are going to become extremely popular, we've already seen that the casual market can push a business like Zynga ahead of the pack in a few short years because of the simply massive amount of money that casual gamers can push into a market.

I'd be very surprised if Valve don't want to get in on a piece of that action by allowing their userbase to access any mobile compatible games from different devices, games like world of goo, toki tori and things like that would work very well if ported to mobiles and be a huge value added benefit to gamers.

No doubt it will just start off as chat, stats and achievements but I expect to see them expand on that pretty fast.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Valve would be permitted to have an app that would bypass Apple/Google to sell mobile games directly to customers. The current app is different because it sells PC games and those two companies wouldn't get a cut of the sales regardless.
