Steam Frame

Anyone put their name down for one? It's very underwhelming to me, there are things I like but there things I don't like too. When I am paying $1000 plus for something, the likes have to heavily outweigh the dislikes. I just can't get past the LCD screens. LCD screens were fine in a $500 headset, 3 years ago. I also have a problem with the controllers. The video above echoes the concerns I had when I saw the controllers for the first time. They might be trying to do too much. Maybe when they get out into the wild, we will find out exactly how good, bad or average they actually are.

Just those screens man. Can't look past them for the price.

I feel the same way, but also the Quest Screens seem ok. I do worry that in a year they'll release an OLED version like they did with the steam deck, but I'll take the hit and resell it.

I'm excited to be off the meta platform and the better PCVR integration.

I've been hoping they do an oled a year later. I would definitely buy that.

The Deck is the best wireless PCVR option there is. The only headset comparable is a Quest Pro which they aren't making anymore. But I have one and a high end wireless router so I won't be buying this version of the Deck.

The price of the Deck honestly isn't that bad IMO. The Quest Pro was $1200 when it came out, and it's pretty much the same thing as a Deck.

If an oled Deck doesn't come out before the Quest 4 the Q4 will be my next headset assuming it has eye tracking. I don't care that much about having my dick scanned, it's big. It would be more exciting if they release a new Quest Pro.
 
I put my name down, excited to have decent wireless vr. I had the wireless vive and it made such a difference. I didnt love the index because of the lenses. Also playing 2d games just anywhere could be nice.

No, this means you will get one of the first batch, if you so choose. The other email people got says you're put on a waitlist.

Got in for reservation as well. Only reason to buy would be to resell for profit.

Definitely looks disappointing. No OLED, and no color pass though. No reason to get this as a Quest 3 owner, or even if not.

Not worth an extra $500+ so Zuck can't see me wank either.
 
On the list as well.... After reviews though.... We will see. There is some novelty to it, but I may pass it on to another. Dunno yet. The kids would like the VR stuff and most certainly not care about the performance at all, and yet, the PC snob in me says, meh.

Exact same sentiments. I didn't make the reservation, but my daughter did. We'll see how she likes it, and if not, end up selling it.

I agree, though I imagine at the intended original price (probably about $500-800 depending) it was made to save a little on a feature that relatively few will use.. The Arcturus Vision, if it works as well as its specs and features suggest, is far above many other devices and at a relatively inexpensive purchase price these days. I do wish they had gone with merging it in the first place in the same way I really wish there was just a displayport wired backup, though. I'd have easily gone for a no compromises "pro/premium" model if one was available, but unfortunately that was probably a bigger risk than Valve wanted to take in trying to reinvigorate VR across multiple player demographics and devices, as opposed to convergence that hit many of the targets at a more modest price originally.

It was never going to be $500 to $800. The 256GB model was always going to be around the $1000 mark. They are taking a hit on their margins to keep the prices in the sub $1300 range especially with the AI induced shortages.
 
Online I see others have managed to get their orders in. I still haven't received an invite and on the steam app nothing has changed.

Definitely going to pass on buying it. If it were OLED, might've been able to somehow justify buying the 256gb version + the camera accesory, but damn that's still double the price of a Q3 512GB.

I'm on the reservation list for a 256Gb model. Also on the east coast, but no purchase Email yet.
 
I need to look through all of the reviews. The difference is 256 vs 1TB by way of the microSD slot, or that is embedded storage plus there is a microSD slot?

I mean at $1059 and you DIY the storage upgrade, BAM, herpes? Or is the storage proprietary to the different units?

Still waiting on my Reservation List 1TB opportunity to check out (US East Coast). However, my Arcturus Vision camera module is apparently arriving today! I wonder if there are any other alternative uses for it in the meantime (ie in theory, it should be a GREAT motion capturing webcam but not sure about connectivity or drivers for any non-Frame uses)
 
I just learned on Reddit that the order Emails for the reservation list for the Steam Machine is just now finishing up.

With that in mind there might be a possibility that Steam Frame reservation list order Emails might not all go out until early next year. Hard to say for sure though since there were likely alot more people on the Steam Machine reservation list than the Steam Frame list.
 
After registering myself, two kids and 4 friends for the "Lottery", one of my friends got the email yesterday and asked if I wanted him to pull the trigger. I asked him to wait a day and if nothing today we would move on it. Today nothing so I had him place the order for me just now. I cancelled the reservation on the other accounts, and now I wait for it to ship (to his address).
 
Just got my chance to purchase now (Reservation List, 1TB) - or at least some time between late last night (power outage) and this afternoon!

IMPORTANT: The Steam Frame you picked will be automatically put into your Steam checkout Cart, so if you go to add it to cart, you may get a "You have more than the allowed amount of items" and not be able to check out. Just double check to be sure you only have one in the cart. I saw some people freaking out that they weren't allowed to check out and this was the reason behind it

IMPORTANT 2: Don't forget your accessories! . Saw a few posts from people who excitedly checked out, then had to go back and try to add the accessories they wanted to their order. Make sure you go to the Frame page and, if you are given the chance to check out (ie it shows you can actually complete payment and need to do so within 2 days etc) the Accessories below on the page, notably the Ergonomic Accessories Kit (for an Index user like myself, this was a near required purchase as it grants a Index-like middle head strap and sets up Index Knuckles style Frame hand grips that let you completely open your hand without dropping the controller; there's also an enhanced light blocker gasket but the difference between the standard and enhanced. Those more used to another sort of HMD , like the Meta designed head straps or hand grips may not want or need these, but it seems a benefit) . There is also the AC Adapter made available for purchase, though Valve makes it clear if you already have a USB-C 45W or better, PD 3.0 charger somewhere you can just use that; alternately, Steam Deck users can make use of the same charger This is what I'll be doing, as I typically use my Deck Dock anyway to charge.

Glad to see others are getting their offer. At time of check out, they are estimating 6-10 day delivery, and say that high volume/interest etc.. may delay shipping times.

As an aside, given I've purchased hardware over the years from Steam, I now likely have so many Steam Points I'll never be able to spend them. I do wish they'd go back to allowing Steam Credit vouchers for them every so often, but I know there was some legal kerfuffle awhile ago about money laundering or the like.

I got my daughter's reservation to purchase as well (I have until tomorrow). I'm thinking of passing, though. I don't see us using it that much, we still have a Quest 3s we don't use much.

What I use my Quest 3 most for is watching movies/TV in bed. With a pair of bass heavy headphones its better than a movie theater.

Won't be able to do that with the Steam Frame as the battery is in the back.
