Like all games where there isn't official support, it may help in some areas of the game and hurt in others. I wouldn't bother until it's been thoroughly tested.

I have never heard of a game where ReBar worked well for some parts of it, but not for others. Only see all or nothing. Do you have an example?

This "forced" mission arc for the UC is really, really annoying. I didn't want to do this one purposefully, I didn't get any criminal record or bounties at all, but they still came and captured me and accused me of doing... something. So now I have to be enemies with them because I refused the mission. I don't WANT to do that mission right now, I want to finish what the fuck I was doing.

I want to save that one for NG+. I'm already very high in level because I ran around like a ding dong for hours and hours before proceeding with the main quest, so I'm basically invincible now. I purposely didn't go for those big side branches so I have something to look forward to later.

I know this will probably get me kicked off the forum but i didnt finish fo3, i got bored. never tried NV. But i really enjoyed fo4....

I finished FO3 it was a good game. FONV Was also good, but after about 65 hours I got bored of being a desert errand boy and rushed to finish the main story to finish it.

FO4 I enjoyed all the way through. I put over 120 hours into it and never got bored. I was disappointed when it was over.

Callisto protocol is one I read about, but I don't own it to test. Some levels gained, some lost fps.

Man I would kill for a planet codex. Just a full list of all my scanned planets, with their resources and such.
Even an online planet database would suffice. Scrolling through every system, looking at planets one by one, so inefficient.

Performance is better than I expected. I'm running a i7700k with a 6700XT and I'm pulling 60+ FPS medium 2k with Dynamic Resolution off.

I've been able to go into this game with no reviews/previews watched or expectations. I don't think this game will change my life or anything but I think its solid. No crashes. Not as buggy as Cyberpunk IMO, at the very least no headless dead bodies have gotten up and walked down the street like I saw in Cyberpunk. If it wasn't on game pass I would have been fine with waiting until the super gold directors cut++ anniversary edition came out in a few years.

Wouldn't mind a survival mode. I liked Fallout 4's survival mode.

I got about 6 hours in last night and enjoyed every minute of it. Actually looking forward to getting home from work to dive back in. Haven’t run into any bugs that I’m aware of and seems to be running good enough for me. The menu and inventory systems are a little cumbersome and I’m sure modders are already working on a solution if not already put. I’m going to wait on mods until I finish a full game.

I'm getting killed in the space fight tutorial. Something seems weird about the controls. Do I need to be using Left-Alt + WASD to adjust stuff to make my ship more responsive during the fight? I feel like I'm sitting still and rolling around in a ball instead of flying, but I guess space is wide open so maybe that makes sense?

Yes.

Every ship has a limited amount of power. You need to distribute that power around to meet the needs of the current situation. Left and right select the system (laser, ballistic gun, missile, engine, shields and grav drive.)

You can increase and lower each as needed, but if you are already at max power, you need to decrease something to increase something else.

For instance, when fighting you don't need the grav drive (unless you are going to try to escape), I'd back that down to zero. Then max out your shields and lasers, and give it as much engine you can from what is left.

Take down enemy shields with the laser, then switch power over to ballistic gun and finish their hull.

Kinda wish time would freeze or slow down when holding the changer key (left alt).

That's funny. I enjoy the gunplay. In all of Bethesda's previous games I only used VATS once or twice to figure out that I wanted nothing to do with it

So at this point I've done around 30 of the POIs, both the proc gen ones and the "hand crafted" ones (the ones you see from space) and literally none of them are worth doing.
There are only a few designs, and they just repeat. Even the hand crafted ones repeat, I don't even know what the difference between the two are, they all seem the same.

The only ones worth doing are the ones with unique names, since they're notable locations. Generic names like "Science Outpost" and "Colony" or "Abandoned Factory" you can completely skip. I've also fully scanned around a dozen planets, on-foot planet surveillance is also a huge chore and rewards basically nothing except some credits if you sell the survey data.

In other words: There's no reason to land anywhere unless a quest sends you there or it's one of the unique locations. Hard to say at this point but a huge majority of the game's playable area is totally useless. There's maybe 1 unique location per solar system? Maybe less. I'd guess there's like 50-100 in the entire game.

Have no idea what Bethesda spent the last 8 years doing with this game.

I don't entirely agree, but yes - Most in the prior games had at least a skill magazine. However, like you said, just skip the generic named ones in this game. There are plenty of unique one's in every system. From what I've seen so far every system has at least 1-2 uniques, and every unique thus far has a skill magazine to collect along with some exposition on data-pads.

Kind of glad I don't have the hardware capable of playing Starfield at the moment, hopefully by the time I do there will be some decent mods to fix the fugly NPC face art!

Creatine Engine 2 doesn't seem like that big of a jump from version 1 in terms of graphical fidelity...character models/facial animation in particular...with so many other developers using mo-cap (even a smaller studio like Callisto Protocol developer Striking Distance Studios character models look incredible) I'm not sure why Bethesda doesn't invest in some new technology...the updated engine does look better but it's not a huge leap

From Software also has been using the same older engine for years but at least they make up for it with their amazing art style, enemy designs etc

Plenty of Japanese games have lower fidelity graphics, yet manage to look more fun and engaging due to style.

It comes down to priorities at the end of the day.

Personally, given the amount of time/money they already threw at this game - I'm glad it mostly went into just working on a bunch of quests and the systems we have. I think they made the right choice here.

Imagine if they pulled resources away from doing what Bethesda does best with their games just so they could overhaul the engine and various game design systems that go along with it. You'd likely end up with a hollow game that didn't feel like a Bethesda game should.

Only criticism that I can come up with in regards to this game when compared to Skyrim/FO3/4 is the general lack of enemy variety. I do agree with that. I would have almost been happy if they would have just copy/pasted in super mutants as an enemy faction, etc.

However, the rest of the game is spot on, and Skyrim in space is a perfectly apt description.

Well to complete all the marked locations and 100% scan every planet would take over 1000 hours by itself, probably.
You're gonna have to compromise.

I've said it already, mods will fix and improve a lot in this game. We have to accept that Bethesda relies on this as part of their games. Looking at the numbers on Nexus there almost 200k mods and 6 billion downloads for Skyrim SE, Skyrim and FO4. Those aren't all unique downloads and mods but those numbers are ridiculous. There are people out there who love modding these games more than actually playing them.

I think saying there is no reason to do the generic POI's is misleading. They are filler material and I see then as ways to farm equipment and materials.

I do hope they update them to be a bit more diverse and interesting, or to have a modder do it.

Yep, you and polonyc2 are right on point. Art style matters a lot. Just having technically impressive graphics isn't the sole factor as to how good it bad your game looks. Art direction is much more important.

Mostly I just want the slow motion critical hits and kills, with a cool camera angle. It would help add some dynamism, to the otherwise straightforward combat (so far).

I restarted the game a couple of times, with differetn starting traits. and Alien DNA + Terra Firma, gives you a really long sprint time. And makes combat easier. Especially Melee.

Bethesda might be the most mod friendly developer in existence...they encourage players to create mods and have even delivered the tools to make it easier with their Creation Club...that being said they seem to be using the mod community as a crutch to flesh out their games while delivering more of a basic template with their base game...here's Starfield, let the modders fill in all the details to make people want to play it for years

Fun tidbit, moons and planets have actual orbits. You can't just point your ship at a distant planet without making adjustments while heading to it, due to orbital mechanics.
