Starcraft II

You guys hear about Blizzard DotA? It's like a Smash Bros, as in it uses characters from all Blizzard games. It's also interesting that it's themed like a chessboard with chess pieces as towers and the King as the "ancient."

I'd rather they fix the game. Just got dropped from a game I was seconds from winning. Idiot doesn't scout, get a rax in his base. I have three marines and a SCV about to build a bunker by his mineral line. Do a quick scan, he has two marines. It wouldn't have even been a fight.

EDIT - Watched the replay, he sent half of his scvs to look for the proxy, he was a bronze player. Thank you Blizzard for your awesome ranking system.

Yeah except the art and level design team have nothing to do with the technical bnet problems. :p Also possible you got drop hacked, but idk.

What I don't get is when I get dropped it'll drop me within 10 seconds and whenever someone elses drops they get the full minute. I just got dropped today doing a team 3v3 and I could still hear my teammate's voice and I was still connected to xfire (dual monitors).

Any other Protoss players sick of PvP matches? They turn into Colossi wars every single time and get so damn boring. All that matters in a PvP matchup is macro and how many robotics facilities you can sustain while pumping Colossi (assuming you make it to the mid/late game). Seriously frustrating atm. I've tried a bunch of different strategies to counter the heavy colossi/stalker build and nothing seems to work.

Hmm, my roommate complains about PvP, but for him it turns into cannon rush or proxy 2 gates.

If you think PvP is bad... ZvZ is so much worse. Ever try defending a 6 pool with 2 spinecrawlers in your base being built?

Canon sucks, and 2 gate proxy is pure shit; I hate when people go that route even if I win the match. I just want the game to have more options for Protoss players that are viable. I feel like Terran has a lot of different build orders it can use, Zerg has several and Protoss has like 1: get colosus asap.

Edit for clarification: I'm not saying canons and 2 gate aren't effective, just that they are lame.

Ha. TvT has options but it is still always tank and viking.

I meant in any matchup. It just seems like when I'm Protoss all I can build and win with is colossi unless I get into a really late game and am able to pump out carriers. Otherwise, it's just colossi, stalkers, 2 sentries and some zealots.

PvP is just who gets the most colossus. I read this great thread on TL regarding PvP.

You build mothership, observer , phoenix then army. The OBS and phoenix go first and take out the other obs. Then you can mothership your ground army.

Q. Some people say repair is imba
A. We are looking into it, but we haven't made any decisions. We are looking into ways of decreasing the size of Thors further, since repairing them is so effective, or making the AI target repairing scvs with priority in order to kill them more easily. There are no decisions yet, we are keeping on eye on it.

Yes, yes, yes. Please correct this. Nothing pisses me off more than watching 1 thor with minimal marine support dominate a group of several stalkers and zealots only maybe losing a few marines. Or the invincible fortress bullshit; fuck the planetary fortress being repaired by 2 dozen SCVs.

Watching them get psi stormed is pure gold though.

Ok, I can agree with that :D.

Still though I shouldn't have to micro my zealots, stalkers and colossi to pick the SCVs, although I have to admit it's kind of fun to target fire SCVs with my colossi. I know Blizzard is smart enough to make guys target healers in WoW, so they should be smart enough to make my guys target those little shits repairing the giant canon.

I have a hard time dealing with Terran early game, but if I get colossi up, and start to manage a late game, I usually always win in that situation. You basically have to get to colossi and high templar tech to win though, protoss can't win with early aggression like Terran can, at least not nearly as easily.

So basically early game is Terran favored, and late game is protoss favored.

How competent do you feel using force fields, guardian shield and blink? I find myself getting happy when a Terran player makes and early push as I can usually force field them on my ramp, or put a couple behind them and close the distance with my zealots. Zealots can soak up a huge amount of damage from barracks units, and just a few stalkers in back really helps make the Terran player think twice about pushing.

High templars keep raping my terran army
i usually get a nice ball of marines with a couple tanks and thors with meds

damned ht kill my marines and leave my other units on a coma

are those custom avatars?

So, 3 months after release what is everyone's impressions of the game? Still good even though the newness is gone? I've got a couple of friends that play a game or two most nights that seem to still enjoy playing but I won't have the time to play until after the new year so I've been holding off hoping the price might drop some more at some point. Even though I was a fan of the original I'm still "on the fence" wondering if this is something I'll pick up and put back down quickly so I figured I'd get some more diversified opinions.

Funny story:

I've been on a great winning streak in Bronze, beating a lot of plat/diamond players (as bronze!) I told this diamond guy at the beginning I was bronze, and he didn't believe me and called me a liar. AFter beating him, he messaged me and said I shouldn't lie about my rank to mislead the opponent.

:)

To me it seems like people take gaming way to seriously these days and are too hyper competitive about it. Like when I first started multiplayer gaming, pub games were just really casual affairs. You'd only take actual organized matches seriously. However it seems these days everyone is worried about there stats or ranking.

I'm still playing literally every single day. Recently I've been quite active in 1v1, something that I was dormant in since a few weeks after release.

I've also picked up the galaxy editor again... (I swear I will finish my map!). It's in the alpha stages and is privately publish (aka it's playable now).

I like the multiplayer more now than I did in the beta or at launch. Much like the first SC the more you play this game the better it gets as you begin to really understand some of the little details and timings that make such a big difference in how a game unfolds.

The single player is pretty, but the story, dialog, and most of the characters are, IMO, horrible. Everything is just a bit too generic and feels like the Warcraft lore set in space.

I've been playing bunches of 4on4 random lately, it's not the best display of skill, but at least you get to see and do weird things you wouldn't get away with in 1on1.

1on1 games have gotten so damn formulaic.

I'm pissed. I'm extremely pissed.

Went co-op 3v3 insane AI and one of my teammate was an idiot, blocking his ram with spine crawlers and roaches, and didn't even bother to help when I came under fire. He flamed us for being idiots and left. The other guy got wiped out.

I took control of his zerg army (i was terran) and pushed back a little bit -- until the army went back. Then built like 8-10 BC and steamrolled that army and finally wiped out the AIs.

Geez.

Just played an epic FFA game. It got down to the wire, me and one other guy. I had no minerals for big guns, so I started pumping out dozens of sentries. He had a 200 food army and control over literally half of the map. I had a 130 food army, 2 bases, and a mothership with 12 carriers 20 some sentries and a few stalkers. My observer scouted him bringing an epic army of corruptors, hydras, zerglings and ultralisks, I moved my army out under the mothership cloak and dropped a void on half of his army, killed the other half now that it was less than mine, and then the rest of his army was nuked almost instantly when the void zone popped.

Carriers - good for distracting AI targeting by launching hundreds of interceptors, and your enemy can't micro the carriers down immediately upon dropping out of a void zone. Result is 5 seconds of all his units firing at interceptors and his ground units having nothing to attack once my sentries were dead.

Win. It was ridiculous.

So far, I've never been hit with the Void. Sounds like scary stuff. I still hate seeing motherships.:mad::mad:
I'm picking up skills bit by bit though. I've never played an RTS until now.

I just watched CoreJJung vs Bless from the GSL S2. If you have problems with High templars, check out game 1 from that series. Terran ghost owned the toss army.

Did your opponent not think to move the rest of his army into the vortex? Or did you block that with the sentries?

Also, 'no minerals for big guns' <-> 'mothership with 12 carriers'.

Moving into the vortex is a good idea a lot of the time, but it sounds like in this situation, that would have just gotten his whole army nuked. :p

His army was already moving, I dropped the vortex and for just a moment his units continued to move in.

12 carriers isn't saying much in a FFA that is towards the end, when its all you have. Mothership was just the last of my money going towards something I prayed would give me just a few moments, and it did!

The point is, he should have moved his entire army in after part of it got hit.

Oh I see what you mean. I guess not. You only get a tiny window of opportunity though before you take heavy losses, and I think his units were just set to attack move and he wasn't expecting me to meet him at the halfway point on the map.

In theory that sounds great... but in practice you'll take at least SOME losses while running into the vortex especially if the army is composed of slow ass hydras.

If the mama ship has enough energy saved up she can actually do it again once the first one's done.
