Starcraft II

Just beat it...ya it took me a while b/c i was out of town for a week :p I actually liked the story, I was worried something else with Tychus was going to happen, and am happy that the story ended the way it did. It will be interesting to see what the Zerg campaign has in store.

I have a few questions though.

1) how do you get the secret mission? I did media blitz, got the documents, and finished the mission. Then on my starmap there was nothing?

2) what's the best way to go back and get all the achievements and all the upgrades from the armory? I have the save point before Char, and I have the save point after I beat All In. When I load the all in, I just get the mission archive, and can't access the armory. The save point before Char says 22/26 missions complete (obviously since I hadn't done Char yet), but I have access to the missions in the archive, as well as access to the armory/lab.

Oh ya, my 4v4 team got placed plat going 7-0 :)

1) It depends on when you get the documents. If you got it after beating the game it appears that it won't let you access the secret mission. Make sure you do it on a save that's prior to beating all in. Just to double check, when you say documents you meant you went to the bottom right and destroyed the science facility right?

2) For achievements just load whatever save, it doesn't matter. For the armory, it's trickier. It's very possible that at this stage in the campaign unless you have a very early save, you can't do it. The trick to unlocking everything in the armory is hoarding a ton of credits and then saving. Then buy every upgrade in one category - "achievement unlocked" - then reload the save with a ton of credits and repeat for the other categories. It's not possible to get an indefinite number of credits in one campaign. That said, your armory purchases AFTER you finish a mission do NOT apply to that mission on subsequent attempts. Your armory upgrades / research for a mission will be what you had when you FIRST beat that mission. This also means that for the "other choice" missions, if you attempt them *last*, you will technically have every armory / research you had at the end of the game.

Again, the matchmaking system is based off of MMR and NOT your displayed rating or league. Since you cannot view your MMR, the best guess is that your MMR is diamond / plat level. Also, whenever it says "expanding search", it's searching outside your MMR range. It's a GOOD thing to play diamond players. That means your MMR is HIGH and if you go 50/50 you should expect promotion when the next review is up.

everyone use noobrays on 3v3 4v4 from all levels
from p

Only had that happen to me once. Usually everyone on my team agrees to rush and we come in there when they are just about finishing their starport.

Another thing I keep forgetting to point out: Win / Loss is meaningless in this game, so don't get wrapped up in it! All that matters is what division you're in and how well you do against opponents in that division.

My overall win loss is:
1v1 : 18-12 diamond
2v2 : 31-7 diamond
3v3 : 33-3 platinum
4v4 : 11-0 platinum

It's VERY easy to have multiple teams in the team formats and get ridiculously good win/loss ratios. 1v1 is also by FAR the most competitive format. 3v3 and 4v4 have a very high random team rate so if you go in with an organized team you'll likely do VERY well.

I think we played at least 50 games already the last week or so
in 3v3 or 4v4
I have faced only expanding searches for plat and dia we are never favored on any of the games and have never faced below gold, silver, bronze
I hope the mmr thing is right
because it is getting down right frustrating we are winning about 60% of the games
though

Don't get too frustrated. Like I mentioned earlier, if you are indeed facing diamond / plat, then it's a good sign of eventual promotion. Don't fixate on win rate, only on who you actually beat. If you're winning 60% of the time there's no reason you won't be at least plat come promotion time.

Take my 1v1 stat for example: 18-12, that's WITH the 5-0 placement into platinum. That means AFTER placement, I literally went 13-12 and still got promoted to diamond. Why? - Because I was facing a ton of diamond players and winning against them and also very importantly, NOT LOSING to platinum or lower (that much anyway). That's all that matters.

maybe my group stinks now... I was in a different team before retail
before retail
1v1 plat
7 2v2 diamonds

after retail
3v3 silver 80%
4v4 gold 60%

not if you want 10-20 frames

This game is very lax on requirements. I was running all ultra with 8800GTX and it never went below 30 FPS.... only in custom maps sometimes.

Hell I was running this game on low-medium on GT210 (8400GS~) and it run ~40 - 50 fps most of the times.

Yes I destroyed the Science Facility and got the documents. I will try again later to do it prior to the All in mission and see if it gives me the mission. If not, I will just restart and beat them all again.

Ok, well I have that save before I went to Char, so I will probably just do all the missions, get all the achievements/credits/research and then save, then buy w/e, then reload and buy the other ones that i didn't get (cause once you get an achievement they don't take it away)

Well maybe I don't have quite so much to worry about being placed in Platinum last night. Played two matches this morning.

First was TvP. He did a 2-gate Stalker/Immortal push. Held that off then pushed with my two dozen stimmed Marines. I don't do a 6 rax marine build all the time, but I've found that when Protoss doesn't scout or does minimal scouting, and do a 2 gate push they get steamrolled by 24 marines that has constant reinforcement.

Second match again was TvP. I saw him two gate with no robo and almost no scouting so did my 6 rax again. My fault was not com scanning him. I hit mule without thinking so I didn't get to see him hide two more gates at the bottom of his base. So his 4-gate all-in Stalker rush beat me pretty soundly. If I had scanned I would have gotten Ghosts much earlier and would have grabbed a half dozen marauders as well. Well at least I know why I lost. ;)

man, I should get back to the single player. On like mission 6 or something before the MP took over.. :)

I'm aware of the view of the "noobtoss":D They are perhaps a bit simpler to play, which is probably why I'm only able to win with them.. Zerg is definitely harder, but I also find them not as fun to play for some reason. Maybe a good step up would be to try some games as terran, I like all the different options they have for harass and fun strats. Did have a few good wins as T in beta. And I've seen some awesome replays of pro terrans.

UMCPgrad; yeah still not too far from umd:) Just closer to Bmore..

Just watched the idra vs silver matches where idra rages. Silver completely owned a top level zerg. does make you wonder

Idra rage is legendary. It's funny as hell to watch him rage when he loses, especially to standard builds like Marine/Tank.

Everybody loses. It's no big deal...unless you're like me and you lose 10-15 times in a row only then do I start raging. ;)

LOLOL - Just gotta say this: "apologize for playing that race" - IdrA

Haha, Silver has been owning since early beta. He was stuck in the lower leagues for a while with like 500 points above the #2 in his division or something crazy when like that when Battle.net refused to promote him if I remember correctly.

IdrA just needs the Koreans to play Zerg for a few more months to teach him how to properly play it. He copied the Koreans in SC1 and that's what made him good, so he just has to be patient and wait for them to find the proper strategy now. He's got great macro, but he's not very original or creative.

Silver is top level too.

which video is it that Idra rages in? I love to see him rage. Edit: Nevermind, just found it.

IdrA vs. Silver g2 - StarCraft 2 Commentary (#66) on Youtube is pretty funny as well. "Fucking ridiculous isn't it?" -Idra in response to Terrans splash damage

A few minutes in, HDstarcraft mentions that they usually play on the Asian servers. How is this accomplished? In WC3 or Diablo it was as simple as selecting the gateway or realm during log in.

They probably bought the Southeast Asia English copies (ex: Australia) as spares.

Silver is top level too.
Eh the problem with zerg is that there really isn't any options to being 'creative' - especially less than 10 minutes into the game (when IdrA lost both those matches).

That said, it's not like Silver is a pushover either. Although, he did win that second game far too easily. That tank drop on LT is one of the most complained about things in SC2 .... as well as SC1.

What's curious is why IdrA sticks to zerg if he's going to bitch. He played terran in SC1 but made the switch to zerg in beta. This was before a lot of the terran strategies blossomed though and everyone was just doing MMM. Terran is by far the most flexible race and you'd think someone who practices 12 hours a day would naturally choose the most complex / flexible race to play. Zerg is mechanically involved while terran has a ton of options / possibilities.

i dont think I'll ever play this online, I know I will lose big time and not have fun. I'm WAY to slow of a player.

Dammit man! Don't give him any ideas. We need the Idra rage for a good laugh during every tournament!

If you want to have fun with the game online you have to be ok with losing. At lower levels on the ladder you should do just fine even if you are a little slower than average at RTS games.

Regardless of your skill level, expect to lose. You're not going to be playing pros and lose 100% of time time, you'll end up playing people your skill level and winning 50% of the time or so.

Anybody else having issues with SLI in this game?

The game itself runs fairly smooth minus the very occasional hitch, but cutscenes stutter a lot. I'm running two EVGA GTX 460 Superclocked cards. If I disable SLI and run the game off one card everything is silky smooth.

Turn SLI back on and I get stutters during the exact same specific points in the in engine cutscenes, and occasionally hitches in the game.

Really weird. Do I just need to do a driver wipe and reinstall? I did update my drivers after I got the new cards but I didn't go through the whole uninstall, driver cleaner, reboot, reinstall ritual. I just... installed the new drivers.

idra lives in korea and korean men living with each other 24/7 and play games with each other 15 hours a day at least

Vikings so rule.

1-1-1 build is so versatile. 4 vikings = zerg want to cry + you can land em behind the mineral line :D

I beat the campaign and I'm doing it again but this time on Hard. For those who say the game is too short, play it on hard and try to get all of the achievements.

I just had a 4v4 game.

Where on my team we had 2 plat, 1 gold and 1 diamond. On their team they had 3 silver and 1 bronze.

It showed that their team was favored, and we steam rolled them... why?

I have no clue. Every team game I've played has shown the proper team to be favored.

So I just bought this game on a deal, and I have a couple questions for you infamous SC players.

First, off I never played the first one. However, I was a major Age of Empires junky, so seeing how both of these are RTS I'm guessing the transition/basic fundamentals and strategies still apply?

How badly am I going to get blasted to smithereens in Multiplayer? There is laid back total newb online matches correct?

Thanks!

Oh, and no eyefinity support? Lame.

Just had another 4v4 with all my team mates being diamond / plat. Opponents were bronze/silver and it showed that their team was favored.... We again steam rolled em.
