Starcraft 2 Beta

New patch is good =)

YAY! They apparently fixed the exit game bug.

Wow...nerfing across the board. Forge nerf and Roach nerf hurt bad. Don't think the Thor nerf is going to do much since they shrank the model size. In reality it's probably about the same.

Wow... that roach nerf... I've already been skipping roaches entirely. Now I have even more reason to do so.

Why don't they just swap the roach and hydralisk with rebalancing as needed. I want my SC1 hydralisk back :(

Can someone explain the forge nerf? Were people cannon rushing too much... ??

Don't think the Thor nerf is going to do much since they shrank the model size. In reality it's probably about the same.
Actually that was one big complaint about the thor's effectiveness in a real battle. Their size prevented them from operating at peak efficiency since they'd get in the way of other units or vice versa. Also... getting out of the base itself was annoying as hell when the thor was that big. Sometimes you'd have to lift up your barracks.

It's a slight buff to Terran as it makes the thor more maneuverable, and also less circumference for melee to work on, which probably far more than offsets the negative of lower space for workers to repair.

As long as this patch fixes my freezing on exit AND my connectivity issues (which patch 11 introduced) I'll be happy.

Ha-what?! 2 pop for a roach? Way to diminish zerg T1 further.

Hey Refraxion this news is for you buddy. This Asian player Tester stated that he thinks Terran is the most overpowered race in the game. He's been crushing everyone in the American tournaments, and is said to be the best Protoss player in the world. He said that once people know how to use them, Terran will be unstoppable. Here's the link: http://www.scforall.com/sctv/sc_tv01.asp?mNum=s03&movNum=437.

The even funnier part of this news, he's beginning to prove his point: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=125212.

That link is takes you to the current ladder standings on the Asia Server. He is now playing under the name sSKS and has the 3rd highest win percentage as a Terran player.

Oh I already read that on the forums, I think people mis interpreted what he was saying. Some people on TL says he meant that terran is unpredictable at the moment since nobody is actually good with Terran.

Doesn't really affect me though lol, but that still doesn't prove anything yet. The game is still far too new and "top" races change all the time

Hahaha were people still having problems with Roaches?

After this nerf there's really no reason to make anything else other than Speedlings/Banelings in T1.

It doesn't prove anything, but it means that your race doesn't need any help.

This is interesting too:

종족별 평균 승률 - Average winning percentage?
Zerg ---------- 58.8%
Protoss ----- 57.8%
Terran ------- 57.4%
Random ---- 58.4%

2000점이상 종족 분포 - Race distribution, 2000+ rating
Zerg ---------- 11 ----- 45.8%
Protoss ----- 3 ------- 12.5%
Terran ------- 10 ------ 41.7%
Random ---- 0 -------- 0.0%
합계 ---------- 24 ------ 100.0%

Only three protoss players were able to make it to 2000+, I don't think enough people over there play Protoss!!! Come on Asia server!!

It doesn't need any help, I've already come to terms with that.. it was me being scrubby ;) but Blizzard still disagrees and gives terran some nice little boosts here and there. I don't watch streams much nor do I care for them, I play to better myself through my own play style as much as possible really.

Believe me, I'm still a random player as well so changing any race I'm still affected.

I must be getting worse, just had a 5 game losing streak. I need to go cry now (or man the @#$% up!). One game was a ultra fast zerg loss with lings that were created faster than anything I have ever seen, like he went straight to mining and a pool and used no other units to save up enough space for the lings.

Everybody gets those days, in fact I had a 7 game lose streak in 1v1 platinum, but I started winning again.

Ladder really does improve your play if you can get into the higher points of plat 1400+. I was 1500 then that 7 game lose streak brought be back down to 1400's lol.

I lost 10 games in a row trying to switch races, than won two, and lost another five when I switched back. That was last reset though, this time I'm losing by implementing new build orders and strategies that aren't working for some time. I lost 7 games in a row switching to the phoenix build, now I win all the time with it.

Yeah I love random too, I was playing Terran the other day, and I forgot how much fun their units are. I think the thor buff might be relatively minor, but they are really good units now. I'm not sure what other buffs Terran really got. I'm still curious to see what they do with the Ultralisk, hopefully that comes with the pending ldatabase reset.

I actually think the Thor might be pretty dangerous now (even more so) due to the radius buff, less ling surround means that scv's wont have as much of a hard time to repair it in battle if need be. Also now you can juggle around the units!

Ultras need some sort of buff, I'm actually interested in what abilities Blizzard is going to add to the zerg or modify or so they say for the report of this patch.

I played a game of protoss last night as well for fun in a custom match, I reallllly love stalker blink and it makes me miss protoss a lot whenever I get that ability.. blink micro ftw IMO.

I was also thinking, should we have some hard forum tournament or weekly skirmishes some time? Would be kinda fun

Yeah the new thor with auto-repair is a scary prospect. I'm kind of sad the ladder is being reset, I'm doing so well!

I think that would be awesome. I got 2 of my friends into the beta but they hardly play, getting tired of playing by myself with randoms.

I really have no idea why they increased Roach food from 1 to 2. That nerfs the massing of roaches early game so hard, and since roaches are basically the only thing that works against the oh so common Protoss Immortal timing push, Zerg will have an even harder time fending it off.

I guess they don't like seeing Zerg mass Roaches, but really we don't have anything else to build. Roaches are the damage soakers for Zerg (because we all know Ultras are a joke), and now we can only have half the damage soakers in an army. Sigh..

Imo, if the Roach was too powerful to be 1 food, just lower its health 100 or something.

This patch makes me want to stop playing random...conceptually, I dont know what to do with zerg early now. It sucks that the change is cited for "200 supply matches". I suppose I see the point, but its hellish for competitive play. I feel like it should bump the range up slightly or SOMETHING.

seems like half the time, the roaches just get slaughtered before theyre close enough to take more than 1 shot after about the 6-8 min mark. I get that theyre damage soakers...but...come on =(

I'm not sure what to make of that change yet...

Anyone willing to set up some type of for fun tournament?

I know I can do weeknights tuesday/wednesday for now atleast.

Having ISP problems and got like 4 disconnects and losses, but it was worth it trying new strats but never actually getting to the end before i disconnect lol.

aye this roach nerf is pissing me off too, cause now all zerg are just doing a 6 pool cheese...

And my friend and I a have come to the conclusion the 2v2 Twilight Fortress is a free win if you ever play as or against Dual Terran... We had a match last night on it, with us as Protoss v two Terran players. The two Terran player walled in, fortified with bunkers, turrets and tanks, and then proceeded to make the largest MMM ball I have ever seen.

Meanwhile my partner tried every unit composition the break the wall or harass their eco. Expanded to almost every base on the map and even with the huge advantage it wasn't enough. Before long both Terran players capped their armies and rolled out with this giant stimmed blob, supported by about a dozen vikings, that instantly destroyed anything that got close to it. Not amount of micro helped...

Next time we get that map v dual terran we are either going to proxy gate rush, or let them wall in just build a billion cannons every where and get nothing but Carriers lol.

I played a bit with the new Thor last night. Visibly smaller and much easier to move around. 2-3 of them are ridiculously deadly to air units now.

Only played against a single Zerg last night and pretty much steam rolled him with an early banshee and a few MM with a tank. Just don't need as many MM now to push Zerg quickly and really early.

Did play against 2-3 really bad Protoss players last night though making me wonder if they were former Zerg players.

Is psionic storm a viable counter to MMM blobs?

Had a hilarious game last night. I was on my 3rd of the 5 games you have to play to get your initial rank and division. I was Protoss because they are the only race I have learned to play at all yet, and my opponent was also Protoss.

Early game was fairly slow, he sent one small attack early on but I had 6 zealots up already so he ran away. I expanded to the nearest resource area and then started pumping out the cheese... 4 Stargates all making Cruisers as fast as possible. About the time my first cruiser came online he scouted me with a voidray. I killed it easily with the cruiser. He left me alone for a while and I ended up getting 6 cruisers up so I sent them out to scout his position via an indirect route. Unfortunately just when they got about as far away as they could possibly get he hit my base with a large mixed ground and air attack. By the time I got the cruisers back to the base and killed off his attack he had destroyed both of my nexuses and I was revealed!!!

I am quite certain at this point he figured he had this won. With my production dead in the water (so he thought), and with me being down to just 3 cruisers left (you need 6 minimum to be "effective" at base killing), he probably thought he had the game in the bag.

However, what he didn't realize is that I really didn't care about all that other stuff... Now if he had destroyed my Stargates, THAT would have been a problem. I had 3 cruisers on hand, and I had 4 more that popped out of my SGs almost as soon as I destroyed his attack force. I also had over 1200 minerals and a bunch of vespene on hand. So I rebuilt my two nexus, began production of 2 more cruisers, topped off my interceptors, then marched all 7 cruisers over to his base and began the beatdown. He actually hit me with 8 voidrays, but they want down REALLY fast because I was microing to focus my attacks on them one at a time while I think he was spending time moving up other forces to help out. He had a lot of cannons too, so I ended up getting knocked down to 4 cruisers, but then the other two I had built arrived (I had 2 more in queue at this point as well), and at that point it was all over, there was nothing left he could do, so he quit.

Its always a good game when your opponent has you on the ropes with a mid-game attack but your long-term strategy sees you through to the win. Though, I don't expect this would have worked against anyone at silver level or above.

UGG! I love this game but am finding myself getting owned. I didnt play too much of the original but did always love it. Does anybody have the time......no wait......want to take a newer player under their wing to teach. I primarily play Protoss but want to learn Zerg.....however seeing as Terran keeps getting upgraded and Protoss keep getting nerfed in patches, i might have to play more Terran :p

Currently I am ranked 5 in 1v1 copper.

Add me if you want to help me out. Any advice and teaching is appreciated. I can only get better....thre isnt anything worse than Copper is there?

The MMM ball is indeed really powerful. MMM + tanks seems to own pretty much everything. Zerg do not even have a siege type weapon unless they get up to brood lords, the longest tech time unit in the game. I guess against a MMM ball with tanks I would need infestors to fungal growth and/or parasite the tanks?

Fungal + banelings, game over.

I had a similar experience last night. I applied a lot of pressure to a zerg player in a 1v1 game on a 4 player map while expanding pretty aggressively. We had several back and forth battles in the middle of the map until I finally gained the upper hand, set up 2 pylons in a very forward location, and started pumping out guys through about 8 warp gateways. Right before I launched myself into his base a nydus worm popped up in mine and we literally started destroying each other's mains at the same time. The only thing that saved me was that I had expanded to several different locations and he had not. He eventually set up a vespene extractor in my main to try to buy himself some more time so I had to wade through is whole army to actually win, but it was pretty satisfying.

I'm really enjoying the game a lot.
