i still play games from even the early 90's. why? because there were good! some better than most of the crap out there today.
see thats what im trying to say the player models and the weapon model are simply bad...when i have the starting pistol raised it looks like the texture was made in MS paintThe player models in stalker are ulgy as hell.. the shadows and lighting are pretty decent. Half Life 2 : Episode one has better graphics than this game overall but Stalker has some nice effects.
lol...yea I meant to write "stalker looks..." i wasnt really paying attention
A lot of the professional game reviews that I have read seem to agree with the OP.
+1The OP. Stalker has the best DX9 implementation to date, far superior to Farcry and HL2, if you can't see that then there's obviously something wrong with your system. The dynamic lighting is THE BEST I've ever seen in a game, better than Oblivion, better than *.FPS.
Even though this game will run on hardware released in 2003/2004 it won't look good at all, I've tried it on a P4 with Radeon 9800pro and while it's playable the GFX do look dated. On my current system, E6400 / 8800GTX the textures are crisp and very detailed and the amount of attention to detail is exceptionally high, think a normal HL2 level, now think 100x bigger and 100x more detailed.
Sure the grass sprites are not really detailed at all but the code that makes it sway in the wind sure makes it more believable.
this game is strait out PIECE OF CRAP!![]()
5 years + in the making and all they can come up with is a crapy engine and graphics.
EDIT: Any another thing I hate about games, is when they put the action of a gun on the wrong side. Like in that pic in a post above mine, with the 1911, the actions on the right side not the left, wtf. I don't care if I can see the action cycling or not.
Hell yeah. I raised a big fuss over this over on Steam Forums way back when CS:S came out and pretty much all the kiddies told me to shadup, they like it backwards so they can see the shells. Every one knows that you would end up with brass down your shirt and burns on your arms if weapons were made that way. That's why lefties get little plastic brass deflectors for M16 rifles in the US Army.
The Battlefield games get it right though.
I agree - STALKER sucks.. I bought it and gave it back next day. Didn't realise that it is so old in graphics. So what it has some new effects - all graphics were created 2 years ago, it wont be ebtter that new games.... I expected sth more than that...
You are mistaken... The gfx is very good - although unpolished(as some mentioned b4), the gameplay is awesome as well, in terms of more freedome character gets and more realism than bf2 hl2...
If I compare it to say FEAR or OBLIVION graphics, the only advantage fear gets is smooth edges, but I find that STALKER gfx puts you more into the atmosphere of the game and the real locations. Ok I agree they could have done a better job with gfx and couple of other things, but still IMO I'd rather play Stalker right now than FEAR.
I mean its up to u to decide, we all have different tastes for games etc, some like it some dont...
Although max gfx - does help even on 12x10res.
P.S. Ive never seen better shadows and lighting effects in no other game.., here they did quite a good job. The atmosphere, the environment seems more real to me than most other games, - in most games surfaces look a bit plasticish...
Also considering that Ukrainian developers didnt have much experience in games production, Id say its a good game.
I'd say you are in for a lot of disappointment if you're buying games for graphics. It's like buying a book because it has a pretty cover.
WTF dude? I was talking about the damn weapon models being backwards as in the spent shell casings being ejected on the wrong side of the weapon, non of the jiberish you posted.

You are right on the money. The AK-74 does eject shells on the right side of the weapon, not the left. As does the AK-47.
I think all automatic action rifles eject on the right side if they are side ejecting. These game developers think it looks better to do it wrong then right. Obviously weapons like the M2 .50 cal drop the shells out the bottom, but maybe we will see a game where the M2 shoots the spent casing straight up in the air
I remember back in the day on the firing range and Ft Leanardwood, the lefties that didn't have thier brass deflectors used to suffer. The spent casings often when down their shirt, hit them in the face, burnt their arms, etc. It sucks shooting assault rifles left handed.

Re-check the prescription for your glasses and look at the game again. From the beautiful fires to great textures, lots of detail and many polygons. Dynamic lights, dynamic shadows, this is so far the best looking game I have played.
Go to the graphics options, then press ADVANCED. And sort out contrast also etc.
Now shut up about the visuals.
i regret my purchase too...this almost reminds me of the geforce fx 5800 debacle....it was so hyped then they were released and there were all sorts of driver issues and power consumption/heat issues. Then 3 months later the 5900s came out and the difference was night and day.Yeah it doesn't look as nice on 8800's which is probably why he thinks it looks dated. There's a driver/game issue that needs fixing.
nVIDIA has really made me regret buying these 8800's. Not that I'd be willing to part with them. Also giving my money over to AMD/ATi also doesn't really peek my interest especially considering they've got nothing to compete with that compares to nVIDIA 8800 GTX.
*sigh*
What to do..
