Sold Out Everywhere!

BTW, as of early this morning the eVGA 4991 can be pre-ordered at Amazon, for those doing a step-up and want matching cards for SLi. This means the 4991s should FINALLY start flowing in the retail channels this week. And folks are getting their step-ups completed as well.

Amazon does a lot of shipping, so thats bs. These companies have contracts with the shipping companies, getting free shipping isnt starving anybody.

Just dont complain about the shipping speed if its free.

Idk about other countries, but i believe some parts in the us dont pay tax so they get free shipping and no tax.

Personally i can understand saving every penny for something, and then the tax/shipping getting you but for the 980 ti its soo worth it.

That white Hall of Fame card is going to looks great with my white case with black trimmings and white leds. And 1440p games are going to be maxed.

The only reason USPS work on Sunday is solely because of amazon

Wont happen the titanx cant do 60fps sustained in modern games at 1080p.

So what's the verdict on the EVGA 4991? Is it better at cooling and over clocking or should I wait another week for better custom cooling from MSI?

It's better than the reference cooler, but there will be many, better cooler options coming out.

Reference cards are easy to find in Canada.
They seem slightly overpriced but the US/CAD exchange rate is killing us (getting tired of the Monopoly money).

Newegg's lack of sales tax + $10 shipping certainly beats it.

Amazon has ruined their viability for high cost orders due to their insistence on building fulfillment centers everywhere and thus subjecting the majority of their customers to sales tax.

An extra 5-10% cost added to a $500+ order is downright painful. I'd never buy a television from Amazon anymore, for example, as I'd be looking at paying hundreds of dollars more.

Amazon is just getting ahead of the game. Eventually all online purchases will be taxed, and you should be claiming unpaid taxes on your yearly taxes anyway right?

In case anyone is interested Newegg has the 980Ti w/ ACX 2.0+ w/ backplate in stock but raised it's price $20 over list to $699.99. It's $679.99 direct from EVGA.

For real?

Wow, I surrender.

With everything maxed, AC: U, GTA5, Witcher 3, and Project Cars frequently dip below 60fps on my 980 Ti at 1080p. I'm sure there are other games where it happens as well.

Regardless of your card, if you never want to see tearing or stuttering, you either have to turn down/off certain features or get G-SYNC, and even then there are certain scenarios where G-SYNC can't compensate for the problem.

The Titan X can do 60 FPS sustained at 1440p, meaning so can a 980 Ti. The Witcher 3 and AC: Unity are edge cases.

Project CARS is pretty much a constant 90 FPS for me when driving by myself at 1440p. It will dip to the 60-70 range with <= 29 opponents on the track. All in-game settings turned on or at highest, with SMAA Ultra.

Don't get me wrong, it's usually above 60, but I've seen it drop below that, usually when it's raining. A few benchmarks show it below 60, as well, even with AA off:

What I and Flopper were getting at was that the Titan X/980 Ti can't sustain 60fps 100% of the time... only 95%. :p

It'd be nice if Newegg allowed "Standard return policy" on these GTX 980 Ti's instead of "Replacement only" -- this being the case forces me to not buy from them on this particular occasion.

Well Newegg does not have to follow the exact policy they have listed. I have never once paid a re stocking fee or even return shipping on any item I have returned. I even got a full refund on a cpu that was listed as "replacement only".

I am a little worried that they send the free game code right to your email instead of a scratch off card like in the past. If someone needs to return a gpu then not sure how you could return a code and prove it has not been used...

I am torn between spending 750 and ship on 2 980 ti hybrid or just going ape shite with 2 Titan x for some 120 fps 1080p gaming.

You won't be able to tell the difference between the cards at 1080p/1440p. Go with the cheaper option.

For 1080p, you're never going to be able to utilize the extra memory on the Titan X, so there would be little to no advantage over the 980 Ti.

Why the hell are people STILL using 1080p????

Why not? It's still a completely relevant resolution, takes less to get more (FPS) and hardware out now can utilize it to it's full potential.

As well, you can actually read whats on your screen without having to cross your fingers and hope your program was coded with different DPI settings.

That's why you get a montior sized appropriately to its native resolution. For 4k that is 39-40". It's only 24" for 1080p.

I see you skipped everything else I said and only focused on DPI scaling, nice thanks for the addition.

Newegg had 3 evga cards in stock last night. 2 reference cooler editions for $649/$669 and one with their ACX which they are price gouging on at $699. I grabbed a reference model and got a premier free trial to get free shipping and the better return policy.

yeah probably not, I would not get it for 1080p

So far most vram usage I have seen @1080p is 5.5 GB in GTA5, but that is using DSR x4, and everything else maxed, except I turn off AA

No other resolution can offer 144/120 fps consistently with current generation of cards in SLi. Hell I manage 60 fps barely in Witcher 3 with 970 SLi. Same for GTA V hovers around 72 fps (vsync at 144).

I think we've reach the point where architecture and process tech no longer progresses together. We'll have to get used to what we saw with Maxwell, new architecture being release on older process tech. The time it takes to shrink the process is too long for the architecture cycle to wait, and it will only get longer IMO.

It's not that simple. TSMC got lazy with 20nm and didn't provide a high power version with adequate yields. Nvidia and AMD could have used 20nm this gen no problem, but the yields would have been so low they'd have barely made a profit, more likely a loss.

If 16nm FinFET has decent yields for the high power version, there's no reason AT ALL for anyone not to use it.

The shrinking wasn't the problem, it was TSMC targeting low power systems for a given node (20nm).

12Gb Titan at 1080p? ...Head explodes!

A 980 ti could make sense if money is no issue.

Yeah I am bummed I missed out on the Hydro Coppers direct from EVGA last night. I got the email while I was sleeping, and of course they were sold out fast. I just want a pair of cards with the blocks already attached and under warranty. And it seems EVGA is the only way to go... too bad their direct site sells out so fast, and too bad Newegg gouges them.

Your cards will still be under warranty if you install the blocks yourself, so long as you keep the original cooler. The blocks also come with their own warranty.
