So how Serious is Serious Sam 3???

everyones gonna sleep on this fantastic game!!! kinda frustrates me to see croteam not getting the attention they deserve.

i feel like ive missed out on alot of hidden weapons.. i finally got the rocket launcher!! :D :D

Yeah their marketing wasn't there for reviewer's "incentives", but I've been waiting a long time for this release and having a blast.

I believe the 1st & 2nd encounters were done with the same engine, but with less features implemented in their engine. They had planned to completely finish their game engine in time for SS 3 to show off what it can do.

Really? Anything special you're doing to get it to work? Are you getting close to 100% utilization on both gpu's?

the pic of afterburner in my last post showed significant usage on both gpus...nothing special to get it work...it just worked for me.

after updating to 12.1 drivers im getting even better crossfire utilization in ss3!

haha yeah, just got to that part last night. double barrel ftw.

A single GTX 580 is able to max the game at 1080P and keep a pretty steady 60 FPS.

im also able to max it with my 6870s at 1080p in crossfire. i messed with it for about 10 minutes and never saw the fps drop below 90. although, i didnt get into any big firefights.

i found some good settings for my 6870s @ 60480x1080(BC), never dips below 40fps and is very playable at all times.

Worry not this game will top that part multiple times before you finish this game :D

Yeah, I just beat this last night on hard. Pretty brutal. Finally, a scene that resembles more like 1st/2nd Encounter. :) And for the people who are saying that they're getting 60 fps or higher constant, are you getting 60 fps on EVERY scene? I've seen my fps dip to as low as below 30...

I know I sound like I'm bragging when I say this:
Beat that on Serious and wasn't that big of a challenge even at the time :)

Like i said earlier this game got much more bigger and challenging fights than that and even rematch with that carrier which is quite hard :D

definitely considering picking this up today since its on sale for $24, but im holding off till 1 to see todays steam sale :D

is there a running list of people on [H] who play SS3? id rather play with a more familiar group than joining up on random servers :p

don't you love when a game works out of the box with crossfire without having to do anything special, it really makes you wonder what the hell these other developers are doing to break crossfire so that people have to wait for AMD to release a crossfire profile/driver update.

I'm puzzled how it works for some people and it doesn't work for others. Something is awry here. In Battlefield, for example, I get nearly 99% utilization on both gpu's and my fps are almost always above 60 fps at 2560 x 1440 on ultra settings. In Serious Sam, I've seen my fps plummet down to below 30 fps. My gpu usage fluctuates in Serious Sam. I've seen it hit 90's occasionally, but that's very rare. If you go to the Steam forums, there are lots of people posting performance issues.

Serious Sam HD has never worked properly with sli or crossfire. I don't know why AMD and Nvidia never got around to fixing it. I saw negative scaling with sli in serious sam hd.

They didn't budget for game reviewer spa treatments I guess.

Yeah, here too it seems even though I saw a lot of complaining about DNF from the reviewers here.

True, but I'm puzzled how some people are saying they're getting great frame rates in this game and crossfire is working properly, as I'm just not seeing it.

I don't get that either. Both serious sam hd tfe and tse ran great for me with 6950 crossfire but I've heard that it doesn't work properly for most people.

Yeah, I get the fact that 3 is probably much more demanding on the hardware, but this game runs like complete ass in some scenes. Hopefully, there is a fix around the corner. *crosses fingers*

I get mostly upwards of 60 fps. occasional dip to around 45 or so. I just wish the fps was more consistent. Going from 60fps to 180fps makes it seem like its stuttering.

Is it mostly around water that you have this problem? If so disable crossfire and lower the settings a bit. I would also start a thread on AMD forums. They tend to just not fix crossfire issues on games that aren't super popular. This game runs fine on a single card, remember its AMD's job to support crossfire.

It's mostly during big outdoor levels, or weird random spots, like facing a wall, believe it or not. I've reduced my settings from ultra to high and even lowered my resolution from 2560 x 1440 to 1080p and I still get shitty frame rates. Oh, and Croteam is aware of the problem. On the Steam forums, they made a post, saying that they're looking into the problem with AMD. So, hopefully, some kind of resolution for crossfire users comes about shortly.

see, exactly why i like croteam. i think the reason theres so many crossfire problems in games is that developers don't bother to take the time to work with AMD to fix the issues, AMD doesn't have an unlimited driver team to sit there and work on every single game. so if the developers not going to bother trying to help them then why bother fixing the game in my opinion.

Yeah, Croteam has been very active on the Steam forums, which is awesome. Hopefully, a fix will come soon, as I want to play this at 60 fps constant. :)

Took some gameplay footage...it's not the greatest level but it gives you a good idea on how it runs on my rig.

i've got a fraps counter in the upper right. you can see a slight hitch every once in a while but i believe it's because im memory limited at 1gb, my usage over 900mb...it seems to hitch when new enemies spawn nearby. it doesn't kill the gameplay at all though.

Cool video, and yeah, I'm getting lower fps than you are with my setup. :(

Maxed out 1920x1080 and I haven't seen below 45 FPS. Runs very well and looks good. Enjoying it very much.

I'd like people's opinions on this review

eh, dude was whining because they were not enough puzzles, and the game was not similar enough to the other bullshit released this year. I think he must have been wanting physics, vehicles, more cutscenes, NPCs, escort missions, perhaps ice climbing and other stuff that typical games have today. So while he was bitching about the game really he was saying he wanted it to be like every other game released today.

Yeah, that's my impression from his review, he was mad that it wasn't BF3. If you want BF3, just buy BF3...

That said, while I absolutely love this game, it is missing a few things. It's certainly not as funny as the other Serious Sam releases, it seems like Croteam wants the game to be a bit more adult, but frankly that's not why you play Serious Sam games...I miss finding the secret stash of croteam employees I can murder or spotting the tiny target far off in the distance to unlock a secret...or grabbing the single +1 health that leaves me trapped in a cramped space w/5 monsters shooting at me. To sum it up, this Serious Sam is too...serious.

It also has a bit of a grind feel to it. If I wanted them to add one more thing outside of the humor it would be mixing up the locations a bit, I feel like I've been in the same level since the start of the game and I think I'm about 3/4's through right now. In the few areas the scenery did change (like the underground Syrian city), you spent very little time there and it was just a walk through. Everything else is Egyptian historic sites...and that's it.

Having never played a SS game before, is it really basically just wave after wave of enemies? It seems like it would get repetitive as he said.

I love the game. Its a true Serious Sam game. A little slow starting off but oh does it pick up later. Only complaint is the lack of varied levels but its not a big deal considering the background of the game.

it never gets boring thanks to 16 player co-op :D. i mean hell look at all the people that played L4D. that's the most repetitive boring ass game ever created.
