Sleeping Dogs

25 fps is the best I can get maxed out according to FRAPS so I've got to turn some stuff down. I'm using high rez texture pack, too. Everyone that has this should get it ASAP.

I notice 2 options in advanced graphics called "3D Depth" and "3D Convergeance." I'm assuming these only affect actual 3D use and I have that option disabled since I don't have 3D but these are still accessible.

I'd leave them off. I'd leave the occlusion setting (if any) to a lower setting as well. That and minimizing AA should help shoot those framerates up.

Done. Shadow settings pulled back a little, too.

If people wanted something new to give their hardware something to think about then there you have it.

Gameplay feels good. I wish I could pull the camera back a little bit. Melee is more or less along the lines of the Batman games.

Just have to get used to it but I think this is going to be damned good.

Yeah I don't have ambient occlusion on either. Forgot to mention that.

I do have a pretty bad drop in fps when selecting clothes. It is the only time it dips below 40fps, down to about 15

I was perusing Twitch TV and saw a guy playing Sleeping Dogs. I thought to myself let me tune in to see what the game play is like. Watched the guy play for 10 minutes and the next thing I know the end credits are rolling.

At least I didn't know the full storyline. I'll never tune into another release game channel 13 hours after release. :)

He did say in his channel that he skipped all side missions. And he was a complete badass at playing Sleeping Dogs. I'd hate to run across him in BF3. I'd ban him for being too good. LOL!

Ugh, why does no one work/go to their job when a game gets released. WHY!?

I want to play!

This game's bad ass. You start out slow and they have you on rails where you're thinking: "Hmmm..maybe I'm not going to have much freedom." They ease you in to a few things and set up some story.

And then they cut you loose. :)

The game is fantastic. Having a lot of fun with it. To avoid FPS drops with an nVidia card, do not set AA to extreme in the options. You can pretty much max out everything else.

Been playing for 2 hours now and the story, setting, music, melee combat, even the driving is one of the best in this type of game. The cars actually have weight and are not paper thin (like say in GTA IV or even Saints Row The Third). Loving every minute of it. Game has plenty of stuff to do and learn. Thus far, really enjoying it.

Worth spending 36 on it :).

They can go ahead and hate. The game's fun and looks great.

if you read the review you'll see that the review is far from negative...just because a review mentions negative aspects of a game does not mean they hate the game...it's called a balanced review

On that note I'll mention a complaint I have: The controls in some cases are a bit...loose? For lack of a better word?

Going to see if I can fine tune some things in the menus some more. I wish I had a little more control and say so over the camera's behavior in certain situations.

Seems like the game is getting some hate for looking like shit on the x360/ps3. Gamespot said the textures look "unattractive" on console and "unrealistic" on PC.

Q-BZ - are you playing with keyboard/mouse or controller?

Edit: D'oh, misquoted Carolyn. She actualyl said for PC: "The Bad -- Artificial-looking character models and animations." Heh.

No friggin way. For an open world game I thought it looked great on Xbox 360.

Yep, from the videos I've seen the game looks pretty good. I'm not sure why Gamespot said that -- maybe they elaborated in the review video which I didn't watch (didn't seem to elaborate in the text review).

It looks very dated on the 360. The only time is looks really good is at night with rain.

Also, the car physics are laugh out loud. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the game. But the "ram" button makes your car dance around (it will slide sideways 3 feet or nos boost forward). Motorcycles can push vehicles. Handbrake is unrealistically the "spin vehicle" at low speeds button.

I also noticed that some of the missions can be done out of sequence which causes cut scenes to reference future events you've already completed.

Otherwise, not too bad.

I was answering a text on my actual phone and just had my guy standing around not doing anything. I noticed that the ambient sounds include street racing which is pretty damn cool, lol

jpgs, ugh.

I decided to start beating the crap out of my car Street Fighter style and people started to crowd around:

And then even more people:

I didn't expect that at all.

Edit: doh, guess clickable thumbnails don't work here :(

Any 3D Vision users try this yet? Saw a post on Rage3D where it won't even go into 3D mode even though the game supposedly supports it.

Game runs like total ass for me at 2560x1600.

gtx480, q9950 3700mhz, 8gb.

AA setting at normal and almost everything else at high, I get like 15-20fps.

Apparently nvidia drivers didn't get a chance to optimize this game, but AMD did. Hopefully it's true and the next drivers increase performance.

Also, no fucking borderless windowed mode or FOV options? What is this, fucking 2001?

It doesn't support 3D Vision. It supports AMD's 3D. Nvidia told TotalBiscuit they haven't even had a chance to optimize their drivers for the game yet because the developers worked with AMD.

Something is broken with the AA implementation, game basically becomes unplayable on high or extreme setting....which I would not expect to occur with SLI GTX 580s. On normal it is buttery smooth.

And that Destructoid review was not kidding about the terrible mouse control.....its completely botched, very laggy and not 1:1 movement. Seriously, how fucking hard is it to incorporate decent mouse controls...I know its possible because developers have been achieving this insurmountable feat for well over a decade, fuck sakes

I like the guy in the top left corner. He looks like he's a playa.

You post this nonsense but still nothing from you in the Hitman thread I updated yesterday? You feeling alright? ;)

That makes me feel a little better about what I was seeing on my machine although you're packing a lot beefier hardware than I am. I know early on SLI and Crossfire setups can be screwed by some of these games on the software end so be aware of that, too.

Quality AA I have on high.

High rez textures are on (everyone needs these)

Motion blur is off, Vsync and FPS limiter are off, and everything else is set to "normal" middle of the road or whatever and I'm getting great performance.

World density I'm getting away with on Extreme as well.

Yeah...that's what I was talking about yesterday with my poor "loose" descriptive. I've dialed it in the best I could and it's fairly decent where I've got it but I think I'm going to whip out the controller today and see what's what.

you guys, lol.

seriously thinking about this one. i was sold on the car jumping-jacking ability. this looks like gta4 but with an actual fighting system. just trying to decide on this or cstrike :GO (yes i know, completely unrelated or in the same price range//limited gaming time,lately//) darksiders 2 was also in contention, until i read about all the config issues......

I'm really leaning on CS:GO (community), but this looks so fun.

you guys, lol.

You can lol all you want until some of the control issues interfere with what you're trying to do, too. Then it isn't funny anymore.

It IS fun. The melee is very satisfying. They did liberally borrow from the Batman games and that's great because those games and especially Arkham City set a new standard on any third person game as far as I'm concerned.

I haven't gotten a gun yet. There's enough fun to be had here I don't have any problems recommending this game at all to anyone needing a GTA fix. There are some salutes to Just Cause 2 here and there and that's great because I LOVED JC2.

I have a lot more confidence that I'll see patches and support here than I will from Vigil on Darksiders 2 that's for damned sure so any minor quibbles people have here will get better methinks.

Actually it was your posts that made me take a step back on darksiders 2. I wasnt convinced by that incrontic review either, they never talked about the technicalities of why the PC port is better, it just made it seem like it was the main development platform. But even after reading that, I didnt expect THQ to do a full 180 and saying the ini would not be released. Thats just wrong, and not worth my money.

So you are saying sleeping dogs has control issues? hmm... CS:GO is looking better and better........

Minor control issues with the mouse. Defiant indicated the Destructoid review's description...that's fairly accurate although fine tuning DPI and menu options can get something decent out of it. It hasn't been enough to stop me from kicking a lot of ass and having a lot of fun but I'll the controller today just for grins and comparison's sake.

Definitely hold on Darksiders 2.

Will do.
I'll keep an eye on this thread as well. The videos on steam just look so fun. Perhaps I'll get tired of CS:GO in the coming weeks. I am still playing Diablo 3 for some reason.....

I'm eyeing that CS:GO myself. Seen some mixed feedback especially (and not surprisingly) from some of the long time CS vets.

It's cheap enough so I might just do it although I always sucked at CS so I know what I'm in for.
