Good deal but I kinda want it on steam.. but there's not discount on there (I think).

I'm torn at the moment, so was wondering will you guys buy physical or digital? :(

EDIT: Just read that it is steam activatable. Can anyone confirm?

Cool thanks guys, gonna place my preorder on newegg. Can't believe it's almost being released after all these years!

why on earth would anyone buy the game on Steam when you can get from Newegg (this weekend) for much cheaper plus you get the high quality map (which is very important in all Elder Scrolls games)

Retail is much much cheaper than steam where I am too...including shipping. Which makes no sense as they have less cost overheads...

Honestly... playing it 3 days earlier might be worth $12 to some people. I'm going with newegg though.

It is Steamworks. base game content wise, digital and physical will be the same regardless of where you purchase it.

The main difference is they are throwing in the map with retail preorders.

Steam is not the only source of digital copies of Skyrim, it is actually the most expensive place digitally. Steam does not represent all digital distribution.

US customers should go for the Newegg deal, unless you really are dieing to play it right away after launch, since they don't guarantee release date delivery.

If you want a digital copy to play right away, D2D is cheaper than Steam. Of course there are cdkey resellers as well if you go down that route.

Plus you can just activate it on Steam, since it is Steamworks.

Newegg offers more then just free standard shipping

I'm going to be busy with Arkham City which comes out 3 days earlier so I don't mind waiting an extra day or so to play Skyrim

Can't see Skyrim on European Steam.... Retail it will be about $45, so I might get it... but, it's Bethesda game - playable after first patch, so I might wait a bit longer to get it.

49,99€ ($69) or £34.99 ($56 though its got a preorder reduction, normally 39.99 or $63)

On amazon etc. you can get it for much much less.

I'll go for the best possible deal, which will be when the GOTY edition is released with all the DLC.

Thats one of the biggest factors. You know that 3 or more $15 DLC packs are coming within the next year. But within 2 years a GOTY version will have them all for retail price now.

Steam, but only after the GOTY drops. As much as I want to play this game, I will wait til all of the expansions are out, and buy the whole thing all at once. I may be willing to pay $60 for the complete game, but I am not going to be willing to pay $120, give or take, for the game + DLC packs. Besides, that will give Bethesda plenty of time to fix most of the bugs, and the modders plenty of time to work their magic as well..

Steam, a year from now after its packaged with all of its DLC. It's how I played Morrowind, its how I should have played Oblivion, its how i played Fallout 3. The entire DLC system has basically trained me to stop buying games at release. Pretty much for the same reasons GORANKAR waits for the GOTY editions.

+1 expansion, dlc, mods, all needed for elder scrolls games.

Will probably wait for the GOTY version and see if I am still interested. I refuse to buy DLC so might as well wait.

I might wait for the GOTY edition. Skyrim might be decent out of the box, so I might be tempted to get it early (I can't stand the lvling systems in Morrowind or Oblivion).

The only way I'll get it early is if..
1) Good deal at release (something like these greenmangaming <$30 release day deals for other games)
2) DLC not only being sold through Steam, but with a chance at being discounted in the big Steam sales. I hate when you can't buy the DLC cheap and end up needing to purchase the GOTY copy to get a good price.

Honestly, I'll probably buy it at launch and again when GOTY comes out. :p Bethesda games seem to be games that I buy more than once, lol. I bought Morrowind on the Xbox and then bought the GOTY edition a couple of years later for PC. Bought Oblivion near launch and then a couple of years later saw the GOTY going for less than the price of the DLC by itself, so I just bought it and gave my old copy to a friend.

I'll probably get it retail. Just trying to decide if I want to pay the stupid high price to get it in Australia or import it from the UK, hmmm.

Steam when it's $35-$40 over Christmas. No time to play until then anyway.

I'm going retail; I plan on modding this shit out of Skyrim and don't want to risk having Steam fuck that up.

skyrim is steam regardless of source. and saving $12 while having to wait through the holiday weekend, I'm hoping amazon has a download deal. If not, i'll pay the $60. anyway, fuck, I know its worth it. The last one certainly was.

It uses Steam regardless I believe. However, Steam is mod friendly so I doubt it will "fuck it up"

It depends, Steam autopatching is problematic for modding for games where mods are dependent on a specific version of the game.

But yes regardless of where and how you purchase Skyrim the game will be the exact same because it uses Steamworks for DRM And content delivery, so you will have to activate it and run it through Steam.

Just buy it from wherever the best deal is with the delivery conditions you require. This is the advantage of the developer/publisher standardizing its game delivery system regardless of source, and why I support this practice given today's market state.

I voted steam because it will go on sale eventually and I will wait until after Diablo 3.

you can easily disable autopatching for specific games in Steam

Does it work now? For years the disable autopatching feature has been buggy, and you also have to do it on a game by game basis. Living in Australia with bad internet for many years I was always frustrated by how poorly the user control of autopatching has been. I haven't really checked it in the past few months though.

That is not the only consideration for those games since you cannot update to a specific version or revert to a specific version which is part of the issue those games experience.

There are also issues with certain games due to file structure differences.

But again this isn't a consideration for Skyrim, since it uses Steamworks. Also the game likely will not be version dependent for mods besides a possible script extender, memory expander, and/or stutter fixer.

Games go on sale retail and at other digital distribution sites as well.

i buy all my games on steam unless they are not available. but overall i prefer online/digital rather than physical. i dont see the point of having a bunch of useless dvds/boxes.

This is going to be a tough decision. I bought Oblivion as a Game of the Year version with all DLCs included. I've only been buying games digitally for the last three or four years out of convenience.

It saves me money having to spend gas to go to the store. Saves me the trouble going to some place like GameStop to pre-order. I don't have to spend on shipping either.

However, certain games I will buy retail if there is a compelling reason to. For example, Mass Effect 3 Collector's Edition: http://www.gamestop.com/pc/games/mass-effect-3-n7-collectors-edition/91371. I've been a fan of Mass Effect since the first game, and have bought all three collector's edition versions of the game. Only the second one I did digitally. The third one looks worth it for purchasing it retail.

So, back to Skyrim. If the only reason to get it retail is the burlap map which I can probably find one online after a few months in a Google Maps version like they did with Oblivion, then it narrows down to which retailer gives me the best offer.

I'm very much tempted to go retail with Amazon and the Collector's Edition-- free shipping and no tax. It's $160 after tax if I get it from Newegg.com. The Collector's Edition for the artbook alone seems rather worth it. I collect artbooks for a lot of games. It's always fascinating to see what game developers-- PC and console-- go through before finalizing a design for a character or area in a game. And, I'm a bit of an art nut (which is also why I like the digital photography section here on [H]).

I'm sure the game will be more worth it than food. Lol (J/K)

Then again, hopefully you'll be able to scavenge for food again like in Oblivion. There, problem solved. :D

One of the things I didnt' like about Oblivion was the way enemies leveled up with you. You get to a tough section, go level and come back, and the stinking monsters did the same thing! So a few mods later the monsters are level specific to the areas they are in and I can level past them with easy! :D Thats how I roll (my multi-sided virtual dice) So basically I have to wait until some of those awesome mods are created.
