Skyrim PC Patch 1.2

Interesting. Are you also having issues with the UI not highlighting items with the mouse? Or have to primarily use the WASD keys to navigate the UI? Also did you reassign keys? I wonder if they are related. Did you start having problems after a certain time, or are random shouts not working?

I saw somewhat of the same issue for the first couple of shouts (or at least levels) "R" would show up at the bottom of the UI but it would not do anything. It hit me that at the same time I also could not use "E" to take a book. I had assigned a few buttons to my mouse thumb buttons (E and R) which apparently scrambled the key settings as far as the UI went. I set the key bindings to default and the issue went away. I ended up setting a profile on my mouse so that Skyrim sees one button as "E" and one as "R". Works like a champ, at least for a work around.

Yes, the UI has problems scrolling and highlighting, but not always. I changed some keys, but E R Tab etc were not changed, resetting to defaults didn't work. This started during the first smithing task in Riverwood, smithing your first iron dagger. The only shouts I have have been the ones you get automatically, like the first 2 stages of unrelenting force, and whirlwind.

I'll try the mouse button mapping, but I'd rather they just fix it and allow all buttons to be mappable. Sure, I could use a mod, but I'm doing a review so I have to wait until I'm done with vanilla to use them.

I have my auto update disabled. If it's true to form for a Bethesda patch, at least early on, this will fix some problems and create some new ones. Right now I have my game remarkably stable and I'm just not going to take any chances.

Same for me

I would not be surprised if Steam still patches the game. I'll be waiting a week or so for this patch to get some responses before I install it.

What is with steam rogue-installing patches on us???

Also, why the fuck are they sitting on their hands while forcing the game back to it's 2gb awareness state??? it's absolutely absurd---is anyone even thinking over there?

I like the rarely part of some of those problems, when they seem to happen quite a bit. I mean I probably experience like three or four of them. My son and I both play the game, and he sits in the same room, so we were excited that we started playing and each have experienced different game from each other. The only problem I see is that on both of my two play throughs, I can very rarely get dragons, and when I do, I have to pull out all of the stops to get them to attack me or get close enough for me to shoot them reliably, while he gets tons of dragons and they come right to him. Its very odd and kinda frustrating. He has even had two dragons at once, having a total of 67 dragons across 1.5 play throughs, and I have done two complete play throughs and my total combined is 13....lol

Could be like me and get a dragon in the middle of quest dialog and have to go back 3 or 4 hours of play to reset it. :p Or like last night when a dragon attacked me while I was at 510/455 carrying trying to sell shit. Damn thing landed and tried to light me up when a giant came up and started smacking it. Giant took it to about 50% health and when I had found and managed a str potion a damn frost troll shows up and starts attacking the dragon then ME when I went after the dragon.

Was kinda fun.

FAIL

The CTD but I'm getting approximately every 20-30 minutes, especially when I'm traveling around to lots of places, considering that all they need to do is fiddle with the LAA flag in the exe and re-release this is inexcusable.

The other major bug that I have is that the thieves guild quest line is broken completely from the start, the guy in Riften never visits the sewers so i can't join the guild, the bug also breaks almost every vendor in the town since they're stuck in the market place in their "distracted" state (it will make more sense if you've done the quest)

If you want to send me your saved game file I can see if it's broken or you're having an issue with an objective.

Did you "learn" the shout? I think the key is "R". You have to highlight the shout and then hit the R key, it should pop up a yes or no "Do you want to use a dragon soul" box.

I'm not surprised about this "patch" really. I would not expect any quest line patchs or real "fixes" until the next patch, maybe the one after that.

Learning wasn't the correct term but it was telling me I needed dragon souls when the bottom right corner showed one dragon soul.

The issue fixed itself after I killed another dragon. I was then able to use both dragon souls.

I have set my Steam to offline mode. I will be traveling for the next week and don't want this game disabled because Steam is trying to update without an internet connection.

I'll check back here before I allow it to update.

Appreciate the offer, but I used a work around in the end.

The bug is documented here, along with a fix - http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Taking_Care_of_Business

Basically I can carry on the quest chain but all the NPCs are still stuck in the marketplace and that locks out most of the vendors for that town which is lame, it's hardly the end of the world as I'm not short on other vendors, or even money at this stage, however i have the nagging feeling that it will just cause future issues with quests that might involve those NPCs or whatever. Plus it just looks stupid when they're all standing there like zombies, in the middle of the night.

Yuck. I'm tired of half-assed patches for multi platform games that harm more than they help. AT LEAST give us an air-tight way to stop it from patching...

Maybe the backwards dragon problem affects only consoles. Keep the info about the patch coming guinea pigs :p Any other bugs?

Btw, what did the "PC controls fix" do?

Anyone else have black blocks appear when they use fire spells? Basically whatever I shoot flames at gets covered in big black blocks and I can't properly aim at them.

It'll take Bethesda another six months to fix most the problems. Modders will have to do the rest.

I was really hoping they could fix some of the issues I've been having.

Instead of doing that they've ignored some of the major quest bugs and stability issues, and on top of that made the game worse...

This shit needs to stop, seriously.

This is all vintage Bethesda. Nothing new. Unfortunately.

One day we'll all learn to stop buying new games

Bit unfair/early to claim they're ignoring quest bugs at this time. It's not the same people doing the fixes, and the QA for them are probably staggered. If there aren't content fixes in the next patch, go ahead and complain.

When is the next patch? A lot of these bugs, especially quest ones, can be entirely game breaking. I think it's fair to complain now. This game is rated so damn high, but it's essentially fucked for a lot of users right now. GDamn shillery.

quest fixes require more time to patch...2nd patch and beyond will deal with those...first one was more for stability

Okay, so let's quickly push out untested fixes so we can break the game even more. Cause that's never happened before.

I'm not shilling, I'm chilling. I'm 42.2h in and my game hasn't broken yet. Unless you're just finishing up, what bugs are there that's stopping you playing? I'm talking PC specifically here.

Maybe I'm just more accepting because I know how things work in dev.

I wasn't really expecting anything major from this patch, for the most part this should have been the day 3 patch to fix bugs that were likely found with the "gold" release of the game.

I would not expect any quest issues to be fixed until the second patch.

did they fix the issue when opening a prison door object would fly across the room and sometimes even damage me?

Buttons randomly remap (or disable) themselves, main quests bug out and can't be completed, I can't use any sort of crafting at all, NPC's randomly dissapear or end up under the world, needing ini tweaks to make the mouse even playable, UI unresponsiveness, CTD's, scripted events not triggering, and the usual Bethesda misc bugs.

My point is that much of this could have been avoided in the QA and playtesting process. There are quite a few things wrong with the game. They can't, and shouldn't, rely on modders to take care of it.

Some of those sound pretty specific.

I mean, most people can use crafting. As long as you don't remap buttons atm they work just peachy. CTD's are normal in these games, 4gb patch helps.

I'm surprised my game is working pretty well. I'm used to the old days of Morrowind were I'd CTD every five to ten minutes and my saves would corrupt after about 20 hours into the game.

I'm too scared to touch that patch. I hope steam doesn't override my "no patch" settings. Steam still does that sometimes.

LeninGHOLA, you need to get rid of some of those rootkits and viruses you have on your computer. :p (joking)

Well after this patch I was searching the land and i came across a dragon and guess what he does now...Fucking flys backwards. This is just retarded, they have trouble with some dragons not attacking so they decide to make the dragon afraid of you. Ever time I move closer and closer the dragon just flys further away. It is not as if he just circles around me and attacks but flys backwards he literally goes the opposite direction of my character. Once again I'm not surprised but damn it! Oh but guess what Now I can hit [esc] to exit menus yay!

Man, there are a bunch of issues. For the most part, for me, it plays well enough except for the crash to desktop. Sometimes it's fine, sometimes it'll boot me out every ten min. I save excessively.

I tried offering it a beer, but it refuses to acknowledge my existence.

The patch totally broke gamepad support for non-default mappings so I ended up going back to 1.1 with the reverted files from the Skyrim forums.

Which is ironic because supposedly they fixed the "rare" issue of dragons sometimes not attacking. I say "rare" because they call it rare, except I've seen it happen dozens of times. A lot of the time the dragon will appear as a red dot on your compass (indicating aggression) but yet it will never attack and just fly around in a circle, often not even close to where you are. Sometimes it just flies away completely.

GOD FUCKIN DAMNIT!

Stupid fucking patch killed my game now Im having to re install and re install all the mods I was running.

THIS IS WHY I HATE HAVING TO PLAY MY GAMES THROUGH STEAM OR ANY OTHER ONLINE PROVIDER

Is there a way to not install the update, I had the option selected not to update on Steam but it did it anyway.

I wish that was the case, but I run a pretty tight ship. At least, I know how to deal with that kind of issue.

Maybe they could put a mod out to fix the godamn shadow flickering.
