Skyrim PC Patch 1.2

GOD FUCKIN DAMNIT!

Stupid fucking patch killed my game now Im having to re install and re install all the mods I was running.

THIS IS WHY I HATE HAVING TO PLAY MY GAMES THROUGH STEAM OR ANY OTHER ONLINE PROVIDER

Is there a way to not install the update, I had the option selected not to update on Steam but it did it anyway.
It's the future, they have to protect their investment. l'm willing to bet that more and more games are going to follow suit. I would not be surprised if one day the internet was required to even use your computer. I read a page on firefox this past week that was talking about congress trying to pass some laws that will censor the internet as we know it. . http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/284350/congress-censors-internet-nathaniel-botwinick Oh the world we live in. I can't wait to see the websites start dropping like flies.:(

So Is it even worth reverting the files if they automatically update the game?? Cause I was going to do this but I dont know if it is worth my time now. Damn You Bethesda!!!! No one really owns games anymore with this type of service. They tell what you can and can not do with your own damn file:GRRRRRRRR. I say we take up our pitch forks and burn 'em to the ground...WHOS WITH ME!

I don't know. I reverted my files and ended up with a character who could not be attacked by bad guys. They'd run up to me, look around, and just let me pound on them. There goes who knows how many hours of progress.

That is why I have copy of the game on a different drive as a back up (at 6gb why not?), and have been playing the game since launch logged out of Steam. Still have the original .exe and only the day one patch installed. I usually have no issues with Steam, but given how patches sometimes break Bethesda games I didn't want to risk it.

The game runs fine for me, minus a couple of bugged quests, so no point in patching it until some real fixes hit or until the Creation program is live and some "unofficial" patches get made.

Incidentally any texture mods you should have been able to just copy the Data folder to a safe location and then just copy back into the Skyrim folder once you reinstalled.

this is ridiculously important people! I suggest you follow standart back up procedures when playing these games. I did it with Oblivion and it saved me many times over. I had 2 copies of backups, but thats cause I was modifying FCOM and had the base FCOM folder and then one with the various extra mods and tweaks added.

Before patching or adding a mod or making any major change that you are not sure you can reverse, make a COPY of the game folder. You should have at least 1 copy of a play tested working game folder, so that if anything goes wrong, you simply overwrite and done. You keep playing and nothing to worry about.

I backed up my game file using steam's backup "system" they have so I might try this. But this was after the second patch that forced you to open skyrim through steam. So I think I am screwed.

BTW My bookshelves are broken now too. I can not add books to them after I take them out.

lol @ paying $60 to beta test
  That was my first thought when I saw this patch.

For the folks on Steam, you can roll your install back to 1.1.
There are people on the official forums that have the files available and Steam has even stopped the auto-update process considering all of the issues.
There are only 3 files you have to replace.

Solution: Use a cracked install AFTER you buy the game.

Avoids using steam, lets you do whatever you want to the game that you legitimately purchased, etc...

It does appear Steam has stopped auto-updating it, because mine didn't update last night (I had the machine off until late last night).

The Skyrim forums lit-up last night and it was confirmed that Steam pulled it.
Depending on how your controls are mapped, post-patch you can actually get totally stuck in the game with no way to get out of a menu.
For instance, I'm on a gamepad and I have the "interact" and "jump" buttons reversed. Well, the game unfortunately doesn't realize that in the menus, so all of the commands are backwards and the interact function was completely disabled. With menus, I couldn't do anything except look at them and then close them.
People on KB/M setups were having the same issues. Something related to the control mapping got broken.

the patch actually fixed the mapping issues on the PC...it now defaults to 'Esc' vs Tab...I have my movement keys remapped to the arrow keys and previously when picking locks I couldn't use the arrow keys and had to use W/S/A/D...now the arrow keys work for that (like it should)

I can understand people getting confused post-patch but it actually works the way its supposed to now...I can also use my remapped mouse button to exit menus, exit reading a book etc

I haven't been able to use favorites if I remap it to another key. I used edsf for movement and so rebind a bit. But that's been a problem since release for me.

I swapped Magic and POV (put Magic on F and POV on P) and found that the mapping got messed up in the inventory/spell menu. So to make a weapon/spell a favorite I had to hit P instead of F. Took me a while to figure out why I couldn't make weapons, etc, favorites. Maybe something similar happening for you.

I still don't understand why people want to use esc if they're using WASD. It's much more convenient to hit tab to exit from the WASD position than it is esc.

I prefer "tab" and "e" since I am using WASD, which thankfully still work for me post patch. This one of the few games that I can fully use the UI without leaving my "gaming position" for hand placement (left over WASD) and right on mouse.

Can we have more than one key per bind now? Most games let you have two... like Both "B" and "I" will open inventory.

I want a "Use" button on my mouse, but i also want it to remain "E"... now that i type that, i guess i could open up setpoint and make it happen from there....

I agree. It took a while to get used to using Tab to exit (instead of the same key you used to get into the menu), but now that I'm used to it I would like the option to keep it, instead of being forced to use Esc. But it sounds like Esc is the only option, now (I didn't patch mine, so I don't know first-hand)?

i had auto patching turned off but it patched it anyway, i went to double check if auto patching got turned on some how and it says off no idea why :/

but my vid card took a dump on me and have to buy a new one probly next week so no skyrim for me :( hopfully this new patch be out by time i get a new card

Patch 1.2 is one more confirmation to my decision to wait a month or two before buying it. At this rate though it could be pushed back to middle of next year though. LOL :D

If you haven't installed this patch, skip it.

I've been extremely lucky so far, haven't had a single crash...not even a single bug really. So I was very cavalier about installing this latest patch, not concerned at all that it might makes things worse. Still, by habit, I always back up all the files that are going to be replaced.

I play with a 360 controller. This patch messed up the buttons to where you can't press the 'enter' command (button A), switched some other buttons. I was able to revert to the old state.

I guess what I'm saying is, if this messed things up for me, it will probably do the same to most of you.

Because everyone knows that all developers put every single change that they've made into the update notes....... oh wait, no they don't.

No, your mods broke the game. There are many people posting on Steam's forums that their mods are causing the game to crash. There is no official mod kit yet, so any mod you install is even more riskier than usual. Don't install them if you don't want to worry about your game working properly. End of story.

I have my auto update disabled. If it's true to form for a Bethesda patch, at least early on, this will fix some problems and create some new ones. Right now I have my game remarkably stable and I'm just not going to take any chances.

So did I, but steam said, "hey fuck you roliath, fuck you royally; and updated my shit."
I disabled it afterwards, checked this morning and it was re-enabled.

its pissing me off, to the point where I want to install the pirated version. (flame on)

In the meantime, I'm staying in offline mode.

So far, I've had no problems yet with 1.2 believe it or not but for those people that do and have done everything humanly possible my attitude is: If you paid for it, you do what you have to do to make it work right.

Absolutely. I don't know what all you people are thinking. You paid for the game. Install the pirated version, bypass all the steam bullshit, and be happy.

Well For some of us...Me. It is too late the earliest file I have is from this past saturday. well I had some time off work so I played the shit out of it this past couple of days and now I might have to revert to my most recent save about (30 hours 11 levels back.)

I am pretty upset I did not back up my save game file. I was able to "restore" my game to 1.1 but my save game still messes with the dragons. I am seriously thinking I might just say fuck it and keep playing hoping that their next patch fixes the dragons

. Do you guys think that this next patch Will fix the problems or will the save game file still be broekn because Even with 1.1 installed I still have all the problems with dragons and bookshelves that I had with 1.2? I dont want to wait a week and my save game file still be broken. I might even just start a new save entirely because I have been wanting to create a 2nd character anyway.

welllpp
yup
my saves are semi fucked now. rage mode on. i have a backup from the 26th, so I hope not all is lost. I'll check later.

My game is fucked as well, I have about 60 hours into the game and I was hoping to finish my first playthough before updating the game for the second playthrough because it was working fine for 60+ fucking hours. Now Im back to square one, fuck you steam for updating my shit and breaking my game when everything was perfectly fine...........................

Well I just installed the "steam friendly patch" and am trying to get LAA to work without steam loading.
Looks like I'm going to be a lvl 1 argonian for the time being, Or maybe a lvl 1 Nord Hmmm...

it is the only option now...you can't remap it back to 'Tab'...I think that's where some people are having problems with this patch...some keys automatically remapped themselves and people took that to mean that the patch broke their game...if you ever get 'stuck' in regards to a key binding not working, just start pressing every key one by one on the keyboard and mouse until you figure out where it is mapped to

There has to be more to it, because all my key bindings still function exactly the same as release.
