Skyrim Mods - A Comprehensive List & User Support Thread

I've really enjoyed using this carriage mod which adds carriage services to all of the major cities in Skyrim: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/8544

I started using this when I realized that fast traveling was ruining the game for me. Now, I try to avoid fast traveling unless I'm completing a quest. So far, it's made the game so much more enjoyable.

I am not using that MOD, but I have been doing the same thing since installing Frostfall. If I am in the middle of nowhere without a horse, I'm walking. It is definitely making the game take a bit longer, but I have seen stuff I have skipped over before in my previous play through.

I think I am going to have to install that carriage mod though. It makes sense that the cities would all have a carriage service in some form.

Someone needs to write a rent a horse mod that allows you to rent a horse from any stable.

I'll give that a try. I usually update my ENB .dll when a new version comes out and sometimes that screws with my preset. That's when i usually start looking for a new preset.

ScenicCarriages is the mod i used for this. It overhauled the carriage system so that when you actually got in the back, the carriage would start taking you to the destination. If you had seen enough, you can tell the driver to wake you up when you get there.

With the Wars in Skyrim mod, i saw some pretty epic shit before falling asleep in the carriage. Really improved immersion.

Does that carriage and ships mod allow you to watch as the carriage or ship takes you to where you're going?

Also, that Expanded Towns and Cities mod looks sweet. As you say, sweet that it'd likely be worth dropping sceniccarriages even if the above is not included.

No it doesn't. ScenicCarriages is the only mod that allows real-time fast travel with carriages, but the mod has been abandoned and I don't know if the author will return.

Damn that's too bad. Well i guess it was a good experience while i had it. I was riding down a road and there was a huge-ass battle between stormcloaks and imperials going on all around me. Pretty epic.

The mod mostly still works fine. It may still cause crashing with Hearthfire, and you'd also have to keep in mind that it may never receive another update which can lead to other incompatibilities.

Will add to list:

So is there a mod out there that disables the 'nearby undiscovered locations' markers only? I don't mind already known locations showing up, but it's actually kind of irritating that I'm supposed to magically KNOW there is a hidden cave on the other side of a hill I've never been to. Hell I may just disable the compass entirely to be honest. It really takes the fun and challenge out of exploration.

Maybe one of these?
Skyrim Compass Tuner
Seems to do what you want.

Hardcore Compass Mod
This one removes quest markers too, I think. If so, then it likely is not what you want.
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/1810

I play without the compass using iHUD and I find it much more enjoyable than with the compass on.

Sweet, just what I needed. Also turned off the enemy markers. Could even turn off quest markers as well, though I typically only have one quest active at a time anyway and can just disable the active quests.

Better Quest Objectives seems like a good mod too, particularly if you turn off some of the compass features.

Another question, possibly stupid. It seems my character has a glowing blue aura behind her eyes and I'm not sure why. If I'm in 1st person view I can actually see it if I look up. Might be due to one of the mods I have, though with some research it's apparently been an intermittent bug for a long time now. I've removed all weapon and armors to make sure it wasn't caused by some magical effect and it still persisted.

Found a fix, let's hope it's permanent and won't come back:

-in third person, open the console and type "player.addspell 000f71d1"
-close the console and then open it again
-this time type "player.removespell 000f71d1"

Found out unfortunately it seems this mod won't work properly. I installed it while in an indoor location and it worked, but whenever I tried to leave and go outdoors the game would just be stuck forever at the loading screen. It may be an incompatibility with the Quality World Map, and even though there is an option with the Compass Tuner to disable any map options so it doesn't interfere, I was running into problems. I might just try the Hardcore Compass one instead to disable it completely.

Endless loading screen may not be caused by it (it is quite unlikely, actually). For instance, ever since I played ~20 hours of Dragonborn, I have run into a lot of endless loading screens. Not an uncommon issue going by the reports on the official forums.

If uninstalling Skyrim Compass Tuner solves the issue, then that's good news, though the endless loading screen may return in the future. I'm not sure what causes it (too much for the game to load?), but it seems to only happen in the Skyrim worldspace. I get around it by teleporting to Whiterun or Dawnstar and then the game works fine.

Yeah, I think you're right. Even without using the compass tweak I occasionally will still come across it, I just figured it didn't show up until I tried to use it that it was the cause. I've found that creating a new character then loading my saved game fixes the issue for me. I've tried to teleport to get around it and it will still get stuck.

I have been using the create new char trick for a couple weeks off and on. My problem is only when starting the game though. I don't have endless loading screen problem but sometimes I get a CTD when first starting the game from a load. So when this happens, I just go to start new char, then immediately exit out and then load my game and it works.

I've found this to work also. It only seems to affect me if I'm either trying to load up a save that's in an outdoor location after starting up the game, or if I'm trying to leave an indoor location and it hangs during the transition load. I'll just quickly create a character with the alternate start mod, and just do a quickload once I get to an outdoor area and it works fine.

Are you guys using Skyrim Flora Overhaul? When I first started getting endless loading screens, I noticed that when I uninstalled SFO they went away. I thought this instance was just unique to me since no one reported any such thing on SFO's comment page, but now I see this:
http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/928826-cant-leave-markarth/

Supposedly, removing Data/textures/terrain/tamriel/trees/tamrieltreelod.dds fixes it. I'll have to try it next time.

And patch Skyrim 1.9 is in beta (big patch):
http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1447551-19-beta-update-on-steam/

I have never installed the Skyrim Flora Overhaul. Then again, I am not getting the endless loading screens. Just the bug of a CTD at start up occasionally. My issue might be not enough processor cache loading an initial load at start up, thus fixing it with a new game scenario. My proc has no L3 cache.

I am using SFO, so maybe that is what's causing it for me. I'll try and give that a shot when I get home and see if that solves it.

Yea that's great! It still baffles me how they overlooked this, and just expected everyone to just walk towards the quest marker without thinking.

Legendary difficulty setting
Legendary Skills - Skills of 100 can be made Legendary. This will reset the skill to 15, return its Perks and allow the skill to affect leveling again. This effectively removes the overall level cap.

this is confusing to me... what does it do? it sounds like a CoD 'prestige'

It sound like if you have a level 50 character with 100 Block, you can select that skill to be legendary, and it will go back down to 15 and loose all the perks that go with it. You will then have to level up that skill again, while your character level of 50 will continue to rise, I could see where that could make some encounters pretty challenging.

Vurt just uploaded a lower res LOD file that you can use if the SFO LOD file is the cause of the endless loading screen. It doesn't look like he has a Summer Edition lower res LOD file uploaded yet but if you have Photoshop you can quickly create one if you don't feel like waiting.

I read that the problem was introduced in the latest version, which would have coincided with when I first installed the Compass Tuner, so that's why I thought it was the issue. I read you could also potentially just use the old .dds file if you have the old version download (like I do.) The one he uploaded is likely just the old file version.

When I tried an old version (1.77) my LOD trees were messed up but the loading screen wasn't endless. By making the 1.80 LOD file into 2048 res, the LOD trees look fine. This is with the Summer Edition and 1.80 had some LOD changes in it so I'm guessing that's why older LOD versions don't work.

I have no clue about the regular SFO edition.

Hrm, I thought it was saying you would keep your perk points and just keep the raising the skill after lowering it to 15.

Edit- ahh, nvm, return perk points. I see now. Why would that be called Legendary, you will be effectively gimping yourself on that one good skill. I guess I would have to see it in action. As it stands I am using the mod to increase all skills past 100 anyway so it would be pointless for me.

I'm looking at adding more mods. The ones I have now were downloaded and manually installed by me.
I just downloaded the Nexus mod manager. How will that work with the mods I currently have?

Will I have to uninstall every part of the currently installed mods and download/reinstall with NMM?

The only issue is that the mods you installed manually will not show up in the install/uninstall section of NMM. You can download/reinstall them with NMM to fix that though. You'll still be able to see the esp/esm files in the mod list in NMM (assuming the mods have esp/esm files) so it isn't a big deal.

I can see the load order of the mods I currently have in NMM. I was thinking about removing the mods manually and reinstalling them with NMM.
Does using NMM make it easier to uninstall mods?

Yes it usually makes it easier to uninstall mods since you no longer have to hunt down the mod files.

Is there a mod or plugin for SkyUI that adds more subcategories or something to the crafting menus? A few mods like Cloaks of Skyrim and Bandoliers adds a lot of craftable items, and it's a huge pain having to scroll through the list to find stuff to craft. It would even be nice to be able to type in a description to filter like you can do with your inventory.

A new mod is in the works that will kind of do what you want:

Yea i'm curious about this too. If anything it just helps you farm perk points so you can be a master jack of all trades??

Hmm, that's odd that even the ini edit didn't work. Maybe try windowed mode? If that works, then there is a borderless window mod out there to make it seem like fullscreen mode.

Edit: I just saw your thread about this. The ini edit will not create a resolution option in the drop-down menu - it simply is automatically applied. Here are the two lines to edit in the skyrimprefs.ini file:
iSize H=
iSize W=

So, for you, they would be:
iSize H=1080
iSize W=2560

wow, talk about peripheral vision. I bet that thing would be amazing for FPS's.

Yeah, would be better than trying to use 3 monitors for Eyefinity I think.
