Skyrim Mods - A Comprehensive List & User Support Thread

I'm envisioning Discworld's animated Luggage that runs around and bites enemies. :D

Ah yes, there was a mod in Oblivion that had one of those (though I think it carried stuff for the player rather than bite people). Then there were Mimics as well.

Will add to the list later:
Unique Uniques
Unique Uniques is an on going project that aims to fix this and give the unique weapons a unique appearance.
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/33292

This will replace the ones I've already added to the list as they are now in this bundle.

Those look nice. The problem i had with uniques was that they were underpowered. Is there another one which can work alongside this one that buffs them up?

So just loaded up a good 50 or so of these mods based on your recommendations and am getting ready for another play through. Is the DLC worth it? Also, played just long enough to ride the wagon into town; are there a good mod to make Ulfric look better? His clothes have pretty low res textures.

I can't think of any that currently work with UU. It is very easy to change the stats of weapons/armors so you can likely whip up a mod quickly enough.

The HD DLC is very good for clothing. I use this on top of the HD DLC: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/2674 (don't think it changes Ulfric's clothing though).

I enjoyed Dawnguard but a lot of side quests have you going into vanilla dungeons which is boring. Took me about 18 hours to beat.

I never bothered with Hearthfire.

Dragonborn is great and I highly suggest getting it. Took me 30 hours to beat.

I don't fast travel much so that adds on to the time.

Edit: Also, I'll be updating my recommendation list soon as some of the mods in the list I no longer recommend due to them being abandoned and causing crashing.

Getting a script dragon critical error that I thought I had solved as I launched the game, played a bit, changed nothing and now it's popping up again. Deleted all of it's files from my skyrim directory but still getting it; disabling Deadly Dragons did it before, but now I can't seem to track down the issue. Verified the game, d/l'ed one small file but still can't launch the game.

Patch 1.9 was released today. Is that the cause?

Yeah, 1.9 just came out! Make sure to update your SKSE and unofficial patches if you use em!

I had the tropical overhaul running. Installed the mesh upgrade and now it is mush. All of the foliage is whacked out. Working on it. The tropical overhaul looks way different and much denser.

Will add to list:
Point The Way

Hanas Blank Roadsigns - Resource

Realistic Teeth
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/33117

Gypsy Eyes Caravan
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/33219/

And a line of quest mods. I would give them a try but I took a peek at The Cyrodiil Frontier - Fight Against the Thalmor II in TES5Edit and it found 5 deleted navmesh pieces (along with a decent amount of dirty edits but at least those can be easily fixed). If you do give these a try then just keep in mind that if you use another mod that modifies the navmesh where the deleted navmesh are (I think it affects the whole cell), then your game will crash.

Just got the Tropical mod working with a stock enb, water, mesh upgrade and hd upgrade with birds of skyrim. Pretty bare bones and it already looks pretty sweet. Performance is fine. Nothing below 57 fps so far with a 7950 at max except for no AA settings. What is the command to take out the reticle and other clutter for pics again? I will post more in the skyrim pics thread. The mod seems stable so far imo.

That's insane! Looks like FC3, except more dense!

Will add to list:
Nightingale Pride - Bow Reincarnation

Two Rapiers

And Falskaar is almost ready for release. I'm anxious to give it a playthrough and I have pretty much stopped playing Skyrim until then. :)

I posted this stuff back in 2012, but here it is again:

Are there any archery aiming mods so you wouldn't need the crosshair for it all the time? Something like in the Thief games.

sweet! That does look amazing.

As i look at those tropical screens from above, i realize... all that is missing is dinosaurs.

Someone needs to make a dinosaur mod for this game now, to pair with the tropical mod... you'd be pretty close to a turok game at that point!!

:( Loaded up all these mods, and now I crash whenever I take the last turn on the road to the first town; after the intro part, right when the Nord starts talking about not knowing how his sister can live near those ruins. Guess I'll have to trouble shoot it, my heart isn't in it right now. Guess I'll play through ME3 for the second time with modded high res textures (there is some really good work people have done for that game, wow!), then go back to this.

Post your load order.

I'll have to give these mods another shot. Last time I tried playing with the STEP process, I quit out of frustration.

Once the new version of Skyrim Immersive Creatures comes out, my load order will be "complete". :D

Will add to list:
Dual Sheath Redux
Ever wondered why you couldn't see your left hand weapon in Skyrim? What about staves, they don't just disappear into thin air when sheathed! You want to carry your shield on your back you say? Look no farther!
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/34155

Animated Dwemer Lift Load Doors
This mod adds a brief animation to the Dwemer Lift Load Doors found all over Skyrim.
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/34399

Hunting in Skyrim
At it's base level, this mod is working to make living and earning off of the land more exciting, challenging, and much more rewarding.
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/18866/

Fuz Ro D-oh - Silent Voice
This mod basically enhances support for unvoiced in-game dialog. It does so by coercing the engine, in a non-violent way, into playing a generic silent voice and lip synch file whenever it comes across a dialog response without voice assets of its own.
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/14884

dj do you run all of these mods together? it must be a hell of a balancing act. lol

dj do you run all of these mods together? it must be a hell of a balancing act. lol

The game would not be able to handle that many mods as the maximum amount of active esp/esm files is 255. :) But even if it could, the game would likely implode anyway due to conflicts.

I only run 119 esp/esm files and who knows how many mesh/texture mods. Game is probably around 90-95% crash-free and this is using a save from May 2012. A lot of the mods I use I list in my dj_2004's Recommendation category, minus visual mods as I use so many it is too cumbersome to list them.

By the way, here is the successor to Scenic Carriages:
Touring Carriages
http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1452992-wipz-touring-carriages-07/

And a useful ini tweak:
To have Skyrim open books faster:
In the Skyrim.ini file, go to the [Interface] section (if this section doesn't exist, manually add it) and add:
fBookOpenTime=400.0000
*Note: 400 is the speed; default is 1000. I imagine this amount is in milliseconds.

Edit:
More mods that I'll likely add to the list:
Summer Solstheim HD and Solstheim Skies
Complete transformation of Solstheim's environment.
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/34570

Immersive Potions
Makes potions that restore health, magicka, or stamina have a five second duration rather than instantaneous application.
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/30073

Mantle of the Silver Hand
It is a lore friendly, standalone, light and heavy head piece with a cloak for both genders and all races. The armor is equivalent to Nord Plate/Scaled armor in statistics. It cannot be crafted, it is found on distinguished members of the Silver Hand.
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/34615

Trade and Barter
A mod that overhauls the trade and barter system of Skyrim in a seamless, modular and compatible manner.
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/34612

Loadout
What if you could equip entire outfits complete with weapons, spells and shouts instead of single items? Loadout allows you to do just that!

how on earth do you do a 180 with the rift? lol

No more DLC. :(

http://www.bethblog.com/2013/04/15/moving-to-our-next-adventure/

Pretty disappointing, especially since Morrowind and Oblivion both had larger expansions/DLCs than Skyrim.

Skyrim was such a turd in its vanilla state though. Held back by shitty consoles, the graphics were awful. Geared toward the ADD/no retard left behind crowd, the quests were boring and linear, and the game a cakewalk.

Maybe, just maybe, they'll try to build a better game this time around.

I just finished modding out my Skyrim (again) this past weekend and decided to use the TPC (Texture Pack Combiner) to assist in applying most of my texture mods:

It's a little out of date (by about a month) so a few mods needed manual installs but on the whole it worked beautifully. It probably accounts for about 95% of the textures in the game and takes a lot of the guesswork out of picking the best textures from the 3 major overhauls (S2K, SHD, and SRO).

For most of the remaining textures I decided to pick and choose the ones I really liked from the STEP guide (Skyrim Total Enhancement Project):

Got my game looking really good now but boy am I glad I upgraded to 4GB cards. @ 2560x1600 I'm regularly using up over 3GB of memory. In some areas I even hit 4GB (or ~ 4024Mb according to Precision X). Now this is with a little bit of AA enabled and a lot of .ini tweaks for shadows so that is also probably contributing to the increase.

I'm kinda afraid to throw an ENB on top of that since it may actually push me over 4GB.

Anyway, good job on keeping this thread up to date guys. I found quite a few good suggestions from here as well. :D

^^ I assume you're using the biggest size available for all the texture packs? I could never tell the difference in quality.

Also, show us some screens! That texture pack combiner is pretty sweet, but i haven't seen it in action.

Will it also 'pick and choose' textures for rocks and grass and such to create more variety? if so, how does it all look say, having a grass from SRO and a rock from 2K?

The texture combiner actually works really well. It takes a little to combine everyting but the end result is worth it.

For the most part, if a mod had a 4k and a 2k variant on the textures I went with the 2k. I did this mainly for the same reason, because I couldn't tell much difference in game.

I will try to get some screenshots posted up later today.

As far as how it picks which grass, rocks, etc from which pack I believe it's based on the TPC mod maker's preference along with some community feedback but it only uses specific textures (no variants).

I know there is however another mod out there that lets you load multiple texture variants but I haven't played with it at all so it may be possible:

Ahh yea you're right! I was thinking of this other mod when i commented.

So the texture pack combiner simply picks the 'best' from various sources?

The difference between 2024 and 1024 textures may not be noticeable unless you are purposely comparing the two side-by-side. Even then the difference can be quite minor. Of course, it varies from texture to texture but 2K's 2024 landscape textures were very similar in quality compared to its 1024 version. And, IME, the highest VRAM usage tends to be in outside cells so landscape textures will probably have the biggest effect on VRAM.

One mod that I know of that has a large difference between the 2024 version compared to the 1024 version is SFO.

May should be a good month when it comes to mods as there is a pretty good chance of public releases of Helgen Rebuilt and Falskaar.

Hey DJ, on your Cabin mod (Love it by the way), is there a way to kill the guy who owns it and do away with his body?

I'll try to update the mod list within a week.

Hey DJ, on your Cabin mod (Love it by the way), is there a way to kill the guy who owns it and do away with his body?

Thanks. :)

Is this the Autumn Cabin mod? If so, you can kill the current owners, open the console, select one of the bodies and type disable. Do the same for the other body. I also have an optional version that simply removes the two NPCs and instead gives the player full ownership of the cabin from the start - I haven't tested this version much but it worked fine when I did my limited testing.

I could whip up a script that makes the bodies disappear after x amount of time, but I figure that the console gets the job done and saves me time.

Oh ok. yeah sorry it was the Cottage mod that I was asking about, I got them confused. I will try the console command.

Thanks and keep up the good work

Edit: I see at the bottom of the list you have a player home version. Excellent!

This mod reminds me of the houses in Cheydinhal in Oblivion.

Cheydinhal kicks ass. :) Chorrol probably has the best surrounding landscape though. Plenty of big forests, especially with Unique Landscapes installed.

Now I miss playing Oblivion. :(

My fps is tanking to 20-30 fps with the tropical mod. I think it is grass density but I seem unable to turn it down? FPS is generally pinned 120 fps indoors with no grass btw. 7950 @1100/1350. 4.2 ghz 2500k, 8gb sys ram win 7 64
