Skyrim Mods - A Comprehensive List & User Support Thread

Skyrim tends to run fine as long as the user is very careful of what mods he installs. :)

Out of the blue one the other day, the game stopped working. Crashed to desktop on load. Hours later, I figured it out that for some reason the uGridsToLoad= option changed and after reading on how to fix it, I fixed it.

Skyrim is an amazing game but the endless tweaking and mods needed to make this game look beautiful can drive a person nuts. I wish Bethesda spent more time on the PC version before release, spent more time on making the game amazing instead of relying on the community. Just my two cents.

Naw, it is fun to tweak it. Better than not being able to. I can understand your frustration though.

Speaking of that. I was bothered by the shitty shadows and found a fix. Works fine on my 670 and 2500K at 4.4 but it might kill fps otherwise. Game Looks GREAT now.

Doesn't that shorten the shadow distance? For example:

Look how mid-way the shadows suddenly stop in that image.

Not sure what you mean. Maybe distant shadows are effected but the near shadows are much cleaner and smooth. They look like the object instead of some mess.

Yes, I mean shadows that should be appearing are not due to that mod shortening the distance that shadows appear. Maybe that doesn't bug you, but if it does then you can try ENB as that will give you the best looking shadows and at full distance. Of course, then you'll have to trim out every feature you don't want.

Shadow comparison:

ENB: http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o22/98LS1TA/TESV2012-09-0213-22-32-84.jpg

Well can't I just change the draw distance then? I will have a go at it.

That was what I was initially asking; however, if this is the same tweak that I'm thinking of then it won't allow a far distance. The setting you want to change is fShadowDistance. Mine is set to 8000, which I think is what the default value is.

Tried it with 8000 and the blocky, blurbi-ness was more prevalent. Hmmm. I need to start learning more about the personal tweaking of enb instead of DL ENBs.

The Unreal Cinema ENB seems to be the ticket. it allows you to learn how to tweak the game with presets and how to! Jeez this game has some of the best, most helpful modders of all time! Anyone who bitches that the dev didn't complete the game is wrong. By opening it up for mods they allowed it to go further...

Someone needs to make a shadow improvement mod for the game, TBH I haven't looked, since I manually tweaked mine to what my eyes like, but even with the best ENB's the shadows look Meh, without some tweaking in several entries in the .ini files.

You have to add geforce .com (without the space) after the www. as [H] blocks it. I'm not sure what information Exodia is pointing to though as all I saw were basic quality comparisons between low-ultra. If you head to the advance tweaking section there are a couple tweaks but I've already listed those in the OP, besides increasing shadow resolution as that is pointless above 4096 (even 4096 tends to be a waste).

Unless Bethesda contributes, I don't think Skyrim itself can produce better looking shadows than what ENB provides (be sure to try v.119) without shortening the shadow distance.

Link is broken

Sorry for some reason the links keep breaking when I put them in a thread and they are shortened

google, skyrim tweak guide nvidia

Click on the result where it says nvidia releases 2 skyrim tweak guides

it's the main guide not the 5 quick fixes which is very old

If any of you are looking for new armor (especially for a mage character), then I highly recommend trying the Tribunal robes set as it is the best looking armor I have seen for Skyrim. I can't wait for the masks to be released. :) And, assuming your character is a mage, then I also recommend Psijic Teleport Spells.

I'll be adding the following mod to the list soon, along with the others I mentioned in my last post:
Guard Dialogue Overhaul
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/23390

skyBirds - Airborne Perching Birds
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/23771

Breaking and Entering
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/23807

SkyRealism - ENB Evolved
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/23765

Seasons of Skyrim ENB
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/23812

Something to keep an eye on:
Commute
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/23722

A FYI: Skyrim Realistic Overhaul has a Dawnguard texture pack component. I haven't seen any other DG texture packs besides Ish's, which only covers weapons/armor stuff.

All up-to-date. :) Definitely check out skyBirds - Airborne Perching Birds as it is quite amazing, IMO.

I suppose I'll finally remove the Sounds of Skyrim mods from the list since Cliffworms still hasn't uploaded a new version/made the files public. If you have SoS - Civilization installed, do not uninstall unless you are going to start a new character. Otherwise it will cause stability issues and save game bloat. The other two SoS mods are fine to uninstall on an existing save game.

Project ENB is currently my favorite of the ENB presets
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/20781

I'm currently experimenting with using the Winterheart ENB preset with Climates of Tamriel instead of the included weather replacement. It looks great but I can't leave well enough alone so I'm going to give that Seasons of Skyrim ENB a try.

Added. :)

I liked Seasons except for how bright the snow was during sunny weather.

Anyone having issues with the UNP seamless coverwomen faces not being seamless with the UNP body? It's pretty noticeable when shadows are going across it, sometimes in the brighter areas I don't notice it as much. I'm not sure if maybe a lighting mod may be causing it. I tried using NMM to install it and then manually installed it. It kind of still just looks like the regular coverwomen face textures. I cant' see a noticeable difference between the two, so something is definitely up with the seamless one.

Also, does anyone have some really good shadow settings, the shadows are killing me in this game, especially the ones being cast on my character.

Thanks in advance.

For shadows, you can look at spaceman's post as that has a link to an ini tweak to improve shadow quality. Do note that it'll shorten the shadow distance since shadow quality is tied to distance.

Or you can use ENB which implements its own shadow coding and will give you the best results.

I've been messing with it, it goes away completely at night and the neck/body is seamless, but fast forwarded to day time and it's clearly visible. I'm not sure how to go about fixing that.

Yeah I'm trying to figure out ENB thing now.

So, installed the game again with Dawnguard, updated to latest version with the appropriate SKSE, installed some mods, got the game running..

Can't use primary attack. WTF.

Usually this bug is from Skyrim or Dawnguard. Try disabling DG and see if you can attack.

A small dunmer village that I've been working on in my free time - Snowbound Acres:
Exterior (still have to add a path and do some finalizing):

Merchant shop (left farmhouse):

Merchant living quarters (located in the shop's basement):

The snowy items that Bethesda included in Skyrim are very limited and, thus, limiting (the interior layout of the merchant shop took me hours alone and that's just the layout). I'll probably make another village mod after this one if there is space on the map and it'll be far away from the snow, or so I hope.

Interesting:
SUPER SKYRIM BROS

That's silly.

Speaking of silly, the official forums has 366 pages of mod threads just for mods. Another 289 for construction set pages.

Whereas elder scrolls online has 40 pages. A thread can stay on the first page for almost a week there. Shows where the interest is, doesn't it?

People want a co-op TES, not a MMO. Of course, that might lead to the end of mods, but so may a different engine.

A small mod I created earlier today: a unique "player" house. It belongs to an alchemist merchant but if you choose to kill him you gain ownership to the dwelling.

Happy merchant:

This is what i find silly. Bethesda has to know that people want co op. Why don't they just make a co-op dlc and rake in more cash? i know i'd buy it.

This version has a couple fixes and additions to it.

About the image, that is what I intended to do but the image uploading program sucks on their site. I don't even know how to select the image that shows in the mod list. Still, I'll go try to move that image to the first spot.

Edit: Ah, so it takes a few minutes to update to show the primary (list) image.

I've decided to release two mods of mine so now you all can enjoy them.

Forgotten Windmill:
A player house.
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/24933/

Secluded Cottage:
Adds a merchant and his cottage.
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/24920/

But it'd be a lot of work. $50 DLC? :D

I love the idea of your Forgotten Windmill house. Never had a chance to play with it on though. Very soon, i will be grabbing my dad's gtx 580 and going to town on this game again.

You don't think they could do it for 20-30 a pop? I mean, if skyrimonline has come this far, you'd think original developers could take it all the way.

Well, DG was $20 and that is probably much less work than co-op. And Bethesda knows that people would love a co-op mode so they can charge more.

Skyrim Online is still in a very basic stage, right? People can see one another (is it even showing the actual appearance or just a placeholder?) but that's about it? If so, that's all that happened in Oblivion too, IIRC.

Yep it's still in its infancy. What they really need is to start a kickstarter so they can actually spend all their time on the project. They are having trouble even raising $1000 on their website, which pales in comparison to the amounts projects get on kickstarter.

It's all speculation, but from what modders have been able to do, and what dawnguard actually offered, i'd guess their profit margin on DG was pretty good.

edit: talking with a friend last night--they would also stand to sell A LOT more copies of Skyrim if they were to put out a co-op DLC, due to pirated copies, friends sharing steam accounts, etc.

I'll post here as this is the most official mod help thread I know of without registering to another site.

I cannot for the life of me get non Steam workshop mods to work. They were working fine, but AVG got a false reading of a file, updated AVG, and the false reading went away. I re-installed everything, including the mods I was using before. However, they don't show up in the game, or in the data files selection in the Skyrim launcher. They are installed in the correct directory, the .ini has the correct command line added, all the .ini's and related folders are not read-only, and I'm running as an administrator. The only mods that show up though is workshop ones. Help please!?!
