Skyrim Modding Megathread

Aside from sneak attack neck slits, I rarely see kill moves. I've only see one Dragon finishing move ever. Even as a mage I'll lower his health down to 1% then run in with a sword just to see if I can see what the finishing move looks like. Vaporize on the other hand can be somewhat common when I get high destruction. I even consoled the finishing moves up to 100 for my dragon kills.... no luck.

I get a finishing move 90% of the time on dragons with a two hander. Get them to ~10% hp, swing and the murder ensues.

I rarely ever get finishing moves, though I guess my one-handed was only about 50 and I use my bow a lot.

Question? I installed a bunch of mods before getting the mod manager. Thus, I would like to reset the game to its "defaults". Is there any way I can force steam to make it "just like it was"?

Note: Tried the full HD and the lite HD texture packs. The full HD pack will chew up all your VRAM instantly unless on a 2GB card and cause horrible stuttering. The lite pack is nearly as good as the full pack and I could not tell unless stopped and zoomed in on a spot. I now run Ultra, max AA, FXAA, blah blah boogity blah and peak @ ~850 MB of VRAM.

The no BS way is just going to be uninstall/install.

If your playing a Thief character and want some moody music, this mod is fantastic. Im using it myself.

That's great. I always welcome adding more music. As great as Jeremy's music is for these games I don't ever want to get tired of it so the more music, the merrier.

This might have potential as well.

She's becoming a sensation and rightfully so. I could easily seeing using that second link for the Bard music.

You could probably just delete the files from the Skyrim folder, and then do a "verify file integrity" on Steam. That should force it to re-download everything.

You can probably dump all of the sub-folders in your steamapps\common\skyrim\data folder (except maybe video) and delete all the .esp files.

That's exactly what I did the other day when I wanted to do some "spring cleaning" for my mods folder when I decided to use the NMM. If you delete your Data folder be prepared to download 5 gigs worth of Skyrim from Steam though.

I just tried it out for an hour. I get slight framerate jitters kind of reminding me of Oblivion stuttering when I use it. Nothing terrible though. I love how things look indoors and during the daytime but night time is just way too dark for me, even if I turn up the brightness.

You don't need to delete the BSA files as mods do not currently modify them (and most/all mods will never modify them). Those alone are over 5GB since they contain most of the game's files.

On this topic, some of you guys may like this mod:

Wow thanks for pointing that out, I feel like such a retard.

I didn't even think about that and just chose to delete my Data folder altogether. The more you know!

I haven't tried this yet, but this looks interesting for those who don't want the ENB performance hit:

his site has the before and after pics:

Anyone use this?

There is a decent amount of feedback a few pages back. Some problems: too bright or too dark in certain areas. Examples of such are some interiors and snowy areas when it is sunny out.

I do not get any FPS hit or stutters and I am not sure why anyone would get any as the mod is mainly just changing the lighting conditions. This is actually why I use the mod over FXAA injectors as those cause microstuttering for me.

I would love if some of the music from Morrowind was in Skyrim. Would it be as simple as copying a mp3 to a music folder?

I'm going to experiment myself.

Here's what I've seen so far off this great Nord music mod this guy did that I'm using.

Here's what you have to do:

Create a music folder if there isn't one already by default.

Skyrim\Data\Music

Inside the music folder you'll need these folders:

Combat
Dungeon
Explore
Special

I'm running a music mod right now and the guy used all .xwm files...never heard of it.

What's great about that setup is that it ADDS music instead of replacing so I still have all of Jeremy's music PLUS the new music. The more music, the merrier. :)

I don't know if you HAVE to do it with .xwm or not so I'd say take Mp3s of whatever you want, copy and paste them into that folder setup, and see if you get lucky.

I'm going to try the same thing. It can't hurt anything.

Question. Now that I am using Fhaarkas font mod and SkyUI 2.0, the menu fonts are kind of faded and 'scratchy' looking. How can I fix that?

I'm wondering if there's a conflict there. Temporarily take Fhaarkas out and leave SkyUI and see if things look "cleaner."

I think it had to do with my FXAA mod setup somehow. I've managed to clean it up. Thanks!

On a side note, I'm delighted to see such a profusion of mods and updates to existing mods, but it's getting to the point where I can't keep up and I'm putting off starting a new playthrough to finally finish.

Where is Bethesda? The holidays are over. At the very least we should be seeing/hearing SOMETHING about the next patch and especially The Creation Kit that supposedly coming out this month.

Good question...January is just over half over and not a peep.

Nexus mod manager has crapped out on me, I submitted a ticket for it on the nexus forums. There are so many mods, updates, and patches that even if the Mod Manager worked for me it would get confusing. Sometimes the patch gets the same name as the actual mod in the manager, and without a version indicator, they all look like they affect the same files.

I've experienced this too--patching really needs some work... as does installing and uninstalling some mods. I've deactivated a mod, then reactivated it, and it asks me to replace the files which it should have just deleted...

Also, i installed a couple mods with it which were scripting type things, and it just assumed it all goes in the data folder, which was wrong for this mod. NMM has caused quite a bit of clutter because of these issues. Before my next character i'm definitely going to have to do a re-install. Will likely wait for the tools to come out and some mods to follow.

I just install most mods manually as it is very easy to do so. I keep track of updates using the tracking centre on nexus.

I really thought it'd be out on like, the 10th.

That'll show me! Gotta lower my expectations to the bottom and hope it's released on the very last day of the month.

(This has been THE year for lowering my expectations)

wow, didn't know about that tracking, does anything expire/ nonsubscriber limitations with the tracking centre? Download history expires for nonsubs

See I avoid disappointments by not making stuff up in my head :p

But skyrim has made me very good at using my imagination lol

I legitimately lol'ed at that :p

I'm just trying to say that people shouldn't expect things that were never promised. They said sometime in January there would be a patch and that's all anyone should expect. "Sometime in January" doesn't translate to "sometime before January is half over". :p

I don't think it does. All my tracked mods are still there (almost 3 full pages) and there isn't any warning message like the download history page.

Getting an encore because it's been updated.

Nord music mod. Adds music to the game and doesn't replace any. This guy found some really good ambient dark Nord like music to mix in with Jeremy's music and most of the tracks are awesome. If you want to hear something different try it out.
