Silverstone 1000w

adapters ?? no thanks .. this sucks about this psu

He didn't say about this PSU, he said thats true about all the 8 pin PSU's out there who are boasting next generation video card ready.

Oh well, I guess I have to bite the bullet and get another brand of PSU. I'm not too much worried about the next generation cards, by then PSU's of this scale would have dropped in price significantly anyways :)

I called them today and they said that the OP1000's are being dropped shipped from silverstone.

She said that there is no gurantee that they will have enough of them, she can go ahead and process my order and try to get one out to me, if not, then they will only ship again mid january.

Makes me believe that they are trying to horde up on presales or "foot in the door" selling. I have very little doubt that they have them availible and ready to ship, becuase if they did, then she should have been able to tell me if they have any availible.

i called them also .. they said they will know around 5-6pm if my order will make the shipment today and she will call me tonite .. so ill see

Actually, I talked to someone at Silverstone that said that they do have an initial order, but not enough to fill all orders. They'll go out FIFO. So if you order one and don't get one, the only person you can blame is yourself for hummin' and hawin' on whether or not to place the order. :D

as soon as someone gets it, please let us know how you like it, I had to go for a different power supply, pc cooling quad 750w sli, I couldn't wait any longer, reason why, I have all these components sitting in my room, and I need to test them out before return policies etc run out, so I had no choice but to settle for the quad silencer sli 750w. but I am still interested in knowing how it this psu performs. thank you.

just spoke to silverstone as well .. they are available starting today .. newegg should have them on their website in a day or 2 .. same with frozen cpu ..
so we shall see if i get in on the deadeye deal .. should know tonite

johnny u just have me worried about the 8 pin connectors .. since with pcpc u could just send ur psu back and for 25 dollars have them updated

Hmm damnit, now you get my hopes up. If newegg and other stores starts stocking these, then I shal wait.

I was SERIOUSLY looking into getting the 750w Zeus from Silverstone to replace my (what I am now told is crappy) Powerstream 600w. I loved the idea of having more amperage on the 12v rail, more watts in general as well as quad PCIE power where as my psu now only has 1. I was liking the 6 native sata over my current 2 as I have 4 SATA HD and one optical drive and hate using splitters. The ONLY thing that kept me from getting the Zeus was the worry of this 'new' 8 pin PCIE power connector for newer graphics cards. Seeing as I am holding out till the R600 comes out I was worried of buying the Zeus just to find out 3 months down the road I need yet another 'new' connection type! The Olympia came around sporting native 8 pin PCIE power connector and I was thinking wow! Maybe I should get this? Thing is I really don't need 1000w and the longer chasis is going to be a pain to fit in my already cramped case. If I could get by on the Zeus 100% then would that still be sufficient for an R600 based card? I understand JonnyGuru was stating issues with the finalization of the 8 pin PCIE power connector making any of these newer psu's such as the galaxy etc a possible huge waste if only buying for the newer graphics power connector. Should I wait for a native 8 pin power connector based psu or should I get the Zeus and if so will I still be totally fine for powering the new graphics cards even if they require 8 pin power connectors?

just wanted to update you guys ..

i just got a call from deadeye data .. and my psu shipped out today ..

oh i hate you now :)

BTW, my Olympia shipped from Oneeyedata today (Monday), I should be getting it by tomorrow perhaps wednesday. Of course, I had mine reserved. I used the jonnyguru coupon so it turned out to be cheap. Once I received it I will let you guys know and post some pics. I don't have fancy testing equipment like jonnyguru does so I can't test ripple and such and I wouldn't even know how.

I just placed my order so we will see how it goes. More stores are starting to stock these on their online shopping carts (frozencpu for example) but they are still OOS.

Reason I went with oneeyedata: JONNYGURU coupon :D

$269 SHIPPED FTW!

EDIT: I just noticed on the PSU pictures, the PSU is using a rare type of power input cable instead of the standard type power cords. Is this just a prototype picture or some european version? Last time I remember seeing power cords like those were on some pretty fancy switches. Kinda makes me worry as you would always have to carry the right cable with you. Any one care to shed some light on this?

That's the actual power input. Not a prototype. The power cord is as thick as an outdoor extension cord and the power input socket has blades like a butter knife.

Ahh okay, so yeah they used exotic switch style power cable. Damn I better chain this sucker to myself. Those power cables are quite pricey and hard to find.

Yep, mine shipped out yesterday. Looks like as if there isn't much of a supply choke on them which is good :)

Silverstone OP1000w PSU has arrived .. wont get to play around with it for a few days as i had a tragedy in the family :(

at first glance out of the box .. it sucks that it isnt native 24 pin ..

it does that same crap as the ocz psus which i HATE

Umm.. both OCZ and Silverstone are "native" 24-pin in that they do not require a 20-to-24 pin adapter to use on a 24-pin board.

Soooo... what are you talking about?

i like how pcpc does it

i dont really have time to check right now .. but i wonder if the 8 pin motherboard connector is just an 8 pin and not 2 4 pins i have to snap together

jetjaguar said:
one connector .. not a 20 pin .. with a 4 pin that has to be snapped on .. which it never stays

That doesn't make something not a native 24 pin PSU.....in fact it just makes it physically backwards more efficently. And if your 20+4 pin 24pin connectors aren't staying together you are doing something wrong...and really how many times are you disconnecting your motherboard from power?

I have to agree with this.
more separation in parts, more chance of it breaking/going wrong.
They should have just included a 24 to 20 pin adapter. How many 20-pin motherboards do you see now adays that use a 1000W PSU? I'm sure they did it for sake of user's
convenience but it's misguided.

Anyways, the PSU is huge!!!!! and heavy too.
Didn't have a chance to take some pics as I was too anxious to install it in my case.
Awesome PSU. Not as loud as I expected but it does rev up a little bit when my 8800gtx is running in full gear.

I wouldn't say so. Why?
1. Seventeam is a good, solid OEM. Quality is not an issue here, I't'd be at least 80-90%, probubly more, of the quality of the PC Power and Rip off.
2. The price. The silverstone is what, 280? 350? How much is the PC Power and rip off? $500+.

More reasons, but That should be plenty. Why pay nearly double for something that's only a tiny bit better, if even that? All marketing.

You'd be much better off with the PC POWER & COOLING 1KW Turbo-Cool Quad.

OMG! what are you talking about!

hehe...have you seen the price of the PCP&C 1kw? Seventeam is proven quality and it only costs me $267. Please look at the price of the PC P&C again...

How is that again? Seriously I really am interested in how that is going to happen.

I don't get it either. The electrical connection is no different. Only the connection of two plastic pieces that stick 1/16" into a receptacle. There is no negatives to having a detachable 4-pin on a 24-pin connector.

dunno how loud .. its still sitting in the box lol

johnny .. any word if the 8 pins are the right ones for next gen cards ??

Whats with all these gross assumptions?

Oh yeah, mine comes in tomorrow.

No.. and I'm pissed! I'm supposed to have that info by now.

I just received one of the Olympus 1kW myself. Can't wait to see what SilverStone did to the fan/fan controller to make it quieter. :D

Welp mine is in, and I'm incredibly satisfied. Runs my rig like a dream and stability is back where it should be.

It's exceptionally quite, much much quiter than the TC1KW, even under load it's moderate. Plenty of connectors, 4x 6pin PCIE, 2 x 8 Pin, 2 x 8 Pin PCIE, 1 X 4 Pin, and plenty of sata/molex ends.

The 24 pin connector was a little dissapointing as the 4+20 pin connector is just seated next to another and not clipped in or slid in. The power cable is also a tad dissapointing as it's a special connector, however, it's a beefy and long cable.

But overall for the price, performance, noise, and value, I think it's an excellent unit.
