Show Your LCD(s) setups!!!

Just got a new Sharp LC-37D64U 37"
I was also looking at the LG Scarlet, but I wasn't crazy about its styling. So I went with the lesser featured Sharp. Still quite happy with it though!

Nice setup! How much did it cost? You must have a very large desk to fit all that. I also like those monster speakers :)

Thanks for the nice comments.

Very nice office! I always enjoy seeing homebrew offices. If you don't mind me asking, what type of dev work are you doing?

I write code for distributed software products, mostly. I do some consumer stuff on the side or full-time from time to time. Generally work in C and Python, some other stuff too though. Sorry for being so vague; I am really a jack of all trades and do a lot of different stuff. :) But the main reason for so many displays is to be able to see 3 or more debuggers concurrently so I can see a large scale crash in real time, rather than dig through logs. I use VMware heavily to simulate large(r) computing environments.

The keyboards are both Kinesis Freestyles with 20" cable (which, for the Mac versions, are special order). They are not cheap, but my shoulders feel much better after using this keyboard design for a year now. I had a grey PC version but it suffered an unfortunate incident with an exploding Coke can. :-(

That's hardcore bwa.. We utilize VMs where I work and I'm used to having 3 or 4 running at once, but sounds like you have plenty more than that. I'm only using my little laptop with 3GB of ram though..

I'm only using 1 single 22" and the laptop side by side at home, then 2x22" and my laptop at work. I've also got an older P4 desktop with 2.5 GB ram running another 3 or 4 VMs at all times that I access remotely.

Your setup is crazy though...

Hey, what desks that?
Thanks.

Hi guys, I found this thread a few weeks ago. It took forever to get through the whole thing. :) I am really happy to see I'm not the only guy out there with Ergotron gear!

My main workstation is a 8 core Mac Pro w/ 12 GB of RAM and there's a Linux box that I use for a 2nd workstation backing it--dual core 2.66 Xeon w/ 8 GB of RAM. No video on the Linux box; serial console only. Some test gear in the closet and so on, but since this is the Displays forum: The Mac Pro has 4x20" in portrait mode, 1x30", and then a 6th monitor which is an older ViewSonic VP191b (19"). On the left is a 24" iMac w/ a 2nd 24" monitor. 15" MacBook Pro in the middle. Some 17" LCDs in a closet.

Hopefully the wide image is OK; didn't see a thumbnail tag...

Here's more shots of my office (with the lights on):

Hope to see more hardcore set-ups. One of the things I liked about this forum was the very small number of "u 4 a loser" posts after people posted awesome rigs (which I've seen a lot of elsewhere).

Are you from the matrix?

Really neat and clean setup.

What's on your window? I mean, howz it displaying completely white background and no enviorment at all? Do you have some covering over the frame?

Those are windows, the all white background is nothing but the overexposed brightness outside of the windows. That's it.

@illuminate: What's the brand/model of that desk? Looks like it'll fit perfectly in my office corner.

skOOb33-> i hate to tell you this, but i live in Korea, and i just saw it at the local furniture store here in town 2-3 months ago. Cost me like 70,000W ($70 dollars). Sorry man!!!!

dang. that's pretty much the exact shape i want with an extension on the left side that rounds it out...anyone know of something like this?

Thumbs up on the Galant. You can design the exact desk you want. I love mine.

BTW, the prices are much better at an IKEA store than online.

That's an incredible setup. Just ordered a Hanns myself. Are you running the monitors off of TH2Go? Do you have screenshots of COD4 running across the three monitors? How's the frame rates? Feel free to post answers in the HannsG thread so we don't get this thread off subject. http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1230065&highlight=hannsg

Illuminate -- I'm in Korea as well, can you tell me where I can pick up that desk? That's a steal for 70K won!

Also, have you looked at those Angel 30" monitors on danawa? Any opinions?

Westinghouse LVM-37W3. The desk is deep enough with the keyboard tray out that the monitor isn't *too* big. Monitor is also used for console gaming, movies, and tv.

Yea, my chair is weak. . .

My work setup is 3 Dell 2001FP's set at 1600x1200 for a total resolution of 4800x1200. I use autocad a bunch at work and this amount of real estate is AWESOME.

First off please forgive me for not dusting first :)

My rig as it is at this moment.

Gigabyte EP35C-DS3R
Core2Duo E8400 Wolfdale
EVGA GeForce 8800GT
Four gigs Mushkin PC2 1066
Primary HD 74 gig WD Raptor
(other storage drives too numerous to list)
Creative X-Fi Gamer
Logitech Z5500 5.1 speakers
Logitech G5 gaming mouse
Microsoft 4000 ergo keyboard
Lite-On 20X SATA DVD burner
Thermaltake Mozart TX cube case
Thermaltake Toughpower 750 watt psu
2X Acer 22 inch widescreens

It's a pretty rockin little rig if I do say so myself.

Love it, its the only thing I type on, have one at work too. The keys are light like a laptops and it doesnt feel like I'm typing. Some people like that, some hate it. Laptop / PS3 is for left screen

Three 28"'ers look a bit overwhelming at that close distance. Seems like a lot of neck turning.

I just swivel my chair to face another monitor, no biggie

Nope, no TH2Go, although I'm looking into a solution like that -- probably would be too disorienting to play on all 3 monitors. I'm just using synergy to link my rig to my laptop and ultramon.

And even if you were to go that route, a TH2Go will not run three monitors at that high of a resolution. The max widescreen resolution for three monitors is 3x 1680x1050. It can run two monitors at 1920x1200, but if that's what you want, save the money and get a dual head 2go digital.

Here's mine gotta love the old school dell's...getting a new desk soon

Desktop1.jpg

gotta love the way your old crt's would warp your desks from the weight. it was like you needed a new desk every 2 years. waiting on my Planar PX2611W to post up my setup with mac pro. will post before and after. i have a one monitor setup. simple, but i think you'll like! stay tuned
