Hey Houko, does the 39" handle 240hz at lower rest like 720p?
Hey Houko, yeah im also pretty sensitive with the input lag/response. I can clearly see a difference between this and my 120hz samsung S27A950 TN panel. But im happy to accept this over the TN due to size and colors/contrast advantage, its rly no contest hehe.
So it will accept 240hz, and will it display all 240fps as well? Or skip each odd frame etc, as it was the case before the firmware with the 1080p120 mode. Just as a muck around, i wouldnt mind seeing 240fps hehe, maybe even encode a slow motion vid into real time with 240fps hehe.
Thanks to all of the information in this thread I picked up a 39" and got it set up as my monitor at 4k. I'm really liking it except for the input lag which is extremely annoying, possibly to the point of returning it. I updated the firmware to the 50" version but am not sure what else I can do. Doing things that require fine mouse control, such as Photoshop, is really frustrating. Even normal PC usage is frustrating since I have to pay much more attention to what I'm doing with the mouse to make sure I click where I want to.
I turned of vsync in the NVIDIA control panel (Manage 3D settings -> Global Settings -> Vertical sync) but was wondering if anyone has an idea of something else I can try to reduce the lag. I experience lag with typing as well and when I really get going it can be 3-4 characters behind what I'm typing but that doesn't bother me nearly as much as the lag with the mouse.
Just picked up my Seiki 39 today. Question though: I seen two firmwares for the 39
39 Seiki 4K Ultra HD
Model # SE39UY04 20130827 click here
Model # SE39UY04 20130828 With Backlight And color TEMP click here
And this one for the 50
50" UHD LED TV, 4K2K, 120hz
Model # SE50UY04 click here
Changes to EDID timing for better handling of UHD resolution.
Fixes audio issue that was caused by previous firmware.
I should use the 50" firmware, however what does that second 39" firmware fix?
Thanks!
Aloha,
Just did it. Not to bad of a display!
Any wya to make text a lil better?
Also 120hz is only set by Nvidia or cru, how about when I use HDMI for xbox or dvds? Does it auto detect 120hz?
Also looking forward to the new firmware. Although its seems to be more vaporware/rumorware at the moment with no clarity on a delivery date, if any...

I used 7-zip to replace the boot logo in install.img and wasn't able to get it to flash either. Just got the flashing blue/red indefinitely until I power-cycled the TV.
Oh, I almost forgot.. I also took out the YCbCR support in the EDID as this has been fucking with the colors for people
This is great news, because i am tired of reading dumb photographers usings Macs reporting banding and 85% sRGB color coverage for this TV. Since most of them are computer illiterates that cant set sRGB in the GPU control panel, the safest way to work is to remove completely any support for YCbCr on the firmware EDID.
Trick question: does EDID carry info on pixel alignment as well? Can we make the EDID explaim to the PC that it is a BGR pixel order, not RGB?
cause also some photographers are cursing the TV and blaming the scaler or whatever for wrong cleartype settings on their Macs.
Would it be too much if i manually used the service menu to fine tune the color offsets/color gains with help of the spyder4xpress and later you burned the hardware calibration on the firmware? Being a LED panel such calibration would be correct for a very long time, because LEDs age slower than CCFLs, and LEDs are more uniform along the production line, so at a given backlight level most users could benefit from my calibration efforts.
Nice rant. However you are talking out your @ss. EDID Modifications/overrides for color space on OSX have absolutely no effect in Mavericks with this display. Your level of knowledge in OS X and interactions with this display is clear. I'd be interested to know, where in the displays preference pane can one change color space? Because is doesn't.
FWIW... Modifying/overriding the edid removes any support for audio or extended display features.
Not a photographer but a software/hardware developer.

I got it working. I tried a few different things after looking at the raw .tar file comparing to the one I made. I setup my machine so uid 1001 was the same username (hanyuntan) as the in in the install.img and instead of taring from the current directory (using ./ so all paths were appended with ./) I instead did * so the paths did not have ./ appended to them (like the seiki install.img). this time flashing worked. If anyone wants to give it a try:
http://box.houkouonchi.jp/seiki_firm/install.img
This is the 50 inch 5/28 firmware but modified EDID.
It makes the display show up as Seiki Mod
And it has 1080p@120hz and 720p@240 Hz as part of its EDID which means it should allow 120Hz modes with other devices (that support such modes).
The 1080p 120Hz mode is the actual CEA EDID mode that is an actual standard so I would think if devices work with other 1080p 120Hz displays it would work the same way with this one.
If someone has a good replacement video to add on to the firmware I can do that as well =).
Does this play well with your original inf? And I noticed that a 1080p @120hz was not on the short list you gave. All included, yes?
Also does this effect any other inputs like TV or xbox etc?
Over-riding the EDID shouldn't have that effect unless your EDID override is an older non EDID 1.3 override which is like half of the size. The one I did has a lot of the additional HDTV info that the seiki has as well. I haven't tested to make sure HDMI audio and stuff was still working though.
Cool, thanks for being so helpful!
What does DCC do? I seen that on and off on some people's menu settings.
