Revolution Controller!

This controller looks cool. The DS is cool. No one is twisting your arm to buy it but this is actually a revolution. With that said, who saw this coming? Anyone? heh. The ergonomics are fubar though. They need to sleek that shit out. They were going for accessibility though, I guess. It's definately unintimidating....

Now I truly believe Bill Gates has a pact with the devil. I mean MS has just been handed what was left of Nintendo's market to gobble up and take on Sony. After this coming gen. of consoles, it will be Sony's time to bite the dust. In this day and age of lemmings, revolutionary (and somewhat insane) ideas like this just do not work.

Hey I'm just happy to see a console maker fail. :) I hope MS destroys Sony and then they eventually phase out Xbox as a console and just turn it into a fancy TiVo (which it already is). Hopefully by then everyone will see the light and devs will start putting more effort into PC games (hey one can always dream).

Hilarious. :) Good God Nintendo is lame. I mean don't get me wrong....I loved the older stuff for sure, but come on! Maybe it's just because I'm getting older....

I will say it does look revolutionary....but I doubt many twenty somethings are gonna want to use this thing. I could be wrong though... ;)

Alright, this looks cool I admit.

I didn't buy a PS2, GC, or Xbox, and I'm certainly not going to buy a 360 or a PS3, but the Revolution concept has really intrigued me, not being a console gamer (after the PSX/Saturn/N64 gen anyhoo) because it looks different.

I'm excited to see what they do with this controller, it seems to have a lot of potential. I especially liked the Metroid Prime control setup with the secondary plug for the joystick... Left or right handed, however you like it... or one handed.

We'll see, I guess. But for the time being I can say that it doesn't look like the Revolution is even attempting to compete with the 360/PS3 and that can't be a bad thing. What's wrong with simple games, anyways?

I could see me using this... whatever they want to call it, and smashing it into a wall in frustration after 5 minutes.

And the Revolution is supposed to be backwards compatable with the GC...right. Tell me another one. Unless they have ports on the unit itself for GC controllers, no way in hell.

two things:

1. how are you supposed to hit any button below the larger A button and the arrow pad one handed? Even when two handed, looks rather odd for usage.....

2. I forsee many "injuries" with this design. With the long thin design your hand will have to hold the controller tighter thus creating muscle tension. The joint in your thumb i fear will pay a price.... Thats why i always liked the PS1-2 controllers, they are curved and angled for your hands better. This "controller" looks to thin and to square for any type of comfort.

we'll see I guess. I certainly am surprised by this move (not in a good way), and I dont think it will take with the crowds...

I'm generally a pc gamer first and formost, but the possiblities that this controller can bring to games in general has me filled full of joy.

It's been far too long using simple simply controllers, something like this can breathe new life into games in general, not just for one console but as a whole.

I mean, having full 3d motion with your own hand in a game is just something that many people have talked about/wanted for a long time.

i guess we'll see what happens when the system comes out but the idea is something that i've been waiting for. with the evolution of systems, companies have just been adding more buttons to provide additional controls, but that obviously will not work any longer. i think today's controllers already have too many buttons, and i like the idea of simplifying the controller's layout and allowing you to control the action with your body. contrary to popular opinion, i don't play games to be lazy. i like the ability of video games to bring you to a completely different world, and i think the more immersive the experience the better. one important thing that i have always liked about nintendo is that they have not associated immersive with realistic, and i have no desire to see photorealistic graphics. if i wanted the real world, i'd just walk outside. gaming is supposed to be about fiction and fun

My arm is getting tired just looking at it. Have fun with your bankrupcy Nintendo, its been a fun 15 years.

Man some of you people are lazy.

Did none of you play in the arcades back in the 80's/90's? You had to hold your arm up just the same to use a damn joystick and yet no one complained then.

Or old computer joysticks aswell.

It's not goin to be that tiring unless you can't bother to lift the weight of your own damn arm.

Ok with the way ppl play games for hours now, lets see you hold out your arm for lets say...3 hours. With a 2 handed controller you don't even have to do that, you can rest your arms on your lap and let the rumble feature massage your balls.

im surprised by all the negativity here. And you guys are supposed to be hardcore gamers.
I for one love the new design, it is absolutley fresh, and controling anything with that seems absolutley awesome.

you basically have a laser pointer in one hand and an analogue joystick in the other.
you guys are way too cynical, this design is badass. just wait till you touch one, it will be more natural than any thing you have ever used.

oh and btw, kiss hand cramps good bye. I for one am impressed. Nintendo gets my money next round. no need for silly keybord and mouse add ons.

The joystick still supported your arm because it was mounted in its stand. You never held it airborn like this controller. This controller seems like it will be a symetics rehab routine. Lifting a lightweight object is easy, holding it there for a while extended is hard as hell and very tiring... IMHO

I sitll don't see how you would play SNES games.. i'm still on the fence.. i want to see some real action before i make a decision..

Probably with a GC controller. It wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo re-released some "classic" controllers, like the SNES pad, that were compatable with the GC ports already on the system.

Hmm, a bit apprehensive. But in the hands of the right developer this could be very cool. I'm so sick of the same sorts of games, I need something different and this might actually bring a lot of fresh games to the market. At least I won't get deep vein thrombosis playing a Revo.

this may very well pull nintendo back. I really hated gamecube's controller it was so goddamn tiny seemed as though it looked like it was built for 5 year olds. I definitely think it's revolutionary as far as console controllers go....

On the other hand, what looks good in photos may be HORRIBLE when you actually hold it in your hands. Let's hope Nintendo did the necessary ergonomic research...they are Japanese, how could they NOT?

People are going to be swinging these things to and fro like a bunch of idiots, maiming anyone within a 5 foot radius. I don't see this going to well. It's going to be a friggin' bloodbath.

Think of how realistic that will make fighting games!

Nintendo might really pull a coup with this one. I'm really excited about getting my hands on it.

Not everyone in the world is [H]ard like we are on this forum. I'm sure most of you have already made your choice and are set on your favorite next gen gaming machine, whether it be Xbox 360, PS3 or even the great PC.

Unfortunately, we don't make up most of the consumers out there. Revolution's inviting, simple and unique control scheme will attract all those casual gamers and people that have not wished to discover gaming before. Just between you and me, theres alot more of them than there are of us.

Ok I was born without hands and it is PHYSICALLY impossible for me to use that controller. Gamecubes was fucking hard enough. I'm pissed as shit right now.
Ok yeah I'm quoting myself. BECAUSE THIS PIECE OF SHIT CONTROLLER IS FUCKING BULLSHIT AND I'M MAD AS HELL..

Brilliant

If executed correctly, nintendo indeed has created a revolution.
I see this as the first step in virtual reality gaming brought home. Since the 1980's we've been relying on nothing more than finger movements to experience the world on the other side of the tv. Since then, every generation has made that world richer, and more lifelike, now bordering on photorealistic. Sadly however, our ability to interact with that world has made no more than 2 baby steps. (The analog joystick and the analog button).

Now for the first time in 20 years, we are offered what could be thought of as another sense with which to touch this world. The open ended design offered via the port on the controller leaves the door wide open to developers who are as daring as nintendo. Imagine for a second, an extension to the controller that you can attach to your body. Forget scripted motion captured events! The motion capturing would be in real time. Instead of *pressing b* to make your character dodge a swinging left hook, you could actually fall back to your left and counter.

The other part of the brilliance is that nintendo is extending a hand to "everyone else" to whom the video game world has quickly become an akward playground of generation Y. I'm sure parents and other older crowds will instantly take to trying this console when they see classics they remember from the past.

Video games have been banished to the bedrooms of the youth, and dorms of the college students. Nintendo is seeking to bring it back to the living room to be enjoyed by everyone like movies are today.

DUDE SHUT UP I CAN'T EVEN HOLD BOTH AT THE SAME TIME!!!!!

I can't believe you guys are complaining about getting tired. The best part of these physical motion/motion capture type games is the workout you get like in DDR, Police 911, PS2 Eye-Toy, the motion capture boxing game, etc.

Now videogames can increase your concentration, coordination, reflexes, intelligence, AND give you a workout.

... I hate you guys.. with your hands. I hope one day you are jumping around with your revolution controllers and you fall on it and die.
