Thoughts?

This has potential, but the Virtual Boy had potential (don't laugh), the DS has potential - developers just won't spend time on something they can't smear across five platforms and most gamers just want ++ graphics. Ever notice how great games like Eternal Darkness and Pikmin and Windwaker just sit on the shelf while "FPS 3000" and lame movie tie-ins sell like crazy? I just dont think there is a market for quality or creativity anymore because there are enough PS2s to make any lousy game profitable. Not to bash Sony, but I've seen more Playstations surrounded by frat boys playing Maddden 2xxx... The days of the knowledgeable gamer having influence over the market are gone - $$ and the "casual" gamers rule the day. I hope this doesn't spell the end of Nintendo, they have a hit or miss record with "innovation." It almost seems like they are different just to be different, when they should just stick to what they know - making great games. That being said, I hope it works out - the more I read this thread, the more good ideas I see. Lets not forget about full Gamecube compatability and the ability to d_load Nintendo's entire backlog of NES, SNES, N64 games....

Anyway, fan-boy rant = over, on to the debate:

Yep I have seen it but so far I dont really understand what this means. Looks kinda akward.

uhmm.....is Nintendo trying to corner the Powerpoint controller market now?

Ok I was born without hands and it is PHYSICALLY impossible for me to use that controller. Gamecubes was fucking hard enough. I'm pissed as shit right now.

Prediction: Nintendo goes the way of Sega. I just don't see this catching on...

please let that be sarcasm?

Think about how much better a FPS would be on that instead of two joysticks. Since you can put an expansion on it, it definitely has potential.

You basically have to use your thumb to operate the dvd controller like part of the controller. Which limits you to one or 2 buttons at a time at most!!! Godammit Nintendo! I mean seriously when they were designing the controller didnt it occur to them that a tv remote is not a good game controller?????

AHAHHAHA!

HAHAHA!

*catches breath*

ahhaha!

how u gonna play a game with that?

Xbox went from having the worst to the best controler =) pwned

LOL I would never use that stupid thing. This is just like the DS. Innovation that sucks.

yeah remote wise for me it went PS2>XBox>Gamecube to Xbox360>PS3>Tv Remote>Revo

I didnt plan on getting a Revo and this makes me laugh at all the remote hype it was getting. :p

Not terribly impressed........so far.

I could be swayed by a killer app for it, but honestly I think it just really gimps alot of popular game genres. To me this could really be a huge flop for Nintendo. They talk about going for simplicity yet they release a controller that has had several sites use the words baffled, confused, and unsure to describe.

I guess time will tell.

This is what happens when Executives do LSD.

God, and I thought Katamari Damacy was the worst LSD could do..

It's a light gun with a N64 joystick plugged into it, in theory it should be cool but I'll need to wait until one shows up at best buy to tamper with.

While I was reading IGN's article on possibilities on how the controller could be used in different genres, I thought of something just as disturbing as the controller itself.

Interactive Pr0n!!!

First off, LSD > then ALL

Secondly, I believe this is actually a revolution, just like the names says.. hey not everyone is always up for a revolution.. but some are, and other will help make sure the revolution happens. I personally think this is a good thing for the gaming industry.. sorry im not really into playing another sequel or clone, yeah some are good and all.. but there has to be better games.. there is always a better way.. why not try new things? why continue to pay for the same crap over and over.

This controller has many possibilites.. new types of games, new ways to play/control current types of games, all sorts of new possibilities are available.. instead of the same thing over and over.

From the sense of a impudence and skepticism here, I take it you can all predict the future and tell us what will catch on and what wont?

People have ridiculed some of the best inventions ever created... And of course change can be good or bad, but we can't tell till we've seen the entire thing in action ehhh! I'm not saying this is going to be the best thing for gaming, but I can't discriminate it for being different

:D

Anybody know if Nintendo has any plans to show off some games for this thing (@ TGS, I mean)?

It's out there. They make a lot in japan. They don't export it, so you have to download it. They even have stalking-school-girls-rape-simulators. I played one once and LOLed for a good while. Sick Japs.

The more I think about it in practice the less I like it.

1.Do you need to hold your arm up "off your body" the whole time? Jesus that would be tiring with no where to rest your arms.

2.Does that rectangle remote look uncomfortable or what? How about some curves or contours?

3.What if you move around to get comfortable? The controller moves too so would you have to stay perfectly still?

4.The controls are horrendous for most genres I can think of.

5.Is this the end of 3rd party support? Nintendo is asking alot o publishers to make games for them only when they finished third this gen.

This is pure genius! Nintendo will rule with this. How you ask? Porn Games of corse :p Well at least the Japanese market where child preda....er I mean dating sims sell like hot cakes. Kinda reminds me of that one handed PS contoller ASCii (sp?) made way back in the day.

A frelling TV remote....

Seriously though, how the hell are developers going to do cross platform games with that controller? I am all for simplicity but that is taking things a little far. And just how big is it going to be? I felt the GC controller was a little small but maybe it is my fault for having big old gajin hands.

I like how in the GameSpot article they make a comment about someone making an adapter so you could plug in a N64 or SNES controller.

Or if Nintendo realizes how dangerous a laser pointer will be in the hands of a kid (house pets of the world beware!).

Good points, especially #3, 5. One article talked about how, during the pre TGS press showing of the device, they had taped "X" on the floor, to show the journalists where to stand. This leads me to believe that you will have to stay still once the games start or do some kind of recalibration if you want to move. Either way is a hassle.

One of my concerns also. I like to slouch in the arm chair when im playing my games.

Its not that I cant hold up my arm for a couple hours at a time its I just dont want to.

Come on now....you KNOW Nintendo had to do a ton of R&R before they decide to make this HUGE step. I cant speculate on anything til I use but it does look VERY awkward. Seeing as Nintendo is Nintendo...good chance everyone in this thread will be licking their wounds in a few years when every video game is played via something like this. Still skeptical though....

People play games to be lazy and sink into our favorite chair.

We don't play games to be swinging our arms around like an epileptic retard.

Anyone who wants to do that are already playing DDR and staying away from honest gamers :p
