Come on now....you KNOW Nintendo had to do a ton of R&R before they decide to make this HUGE step. I cant speculate on anything til I use but it does look VERY awkward. Seeing as Nintendo is Nintendo...good chance everyone in this thread will be licking their wounds in a few years when every video game is played via something like this. Still skeptical though....

Nintendo has lead major control scheme changes before (The original "D pad," SNES shoulder buttons, N64 Analog control...) I hope this is something similiar.

Wow I totally forgot about those....ok Nintendo is DONE. This thread is gonna be [H]ot for days though....

Maybe it's a trick, and they will release the real controller closer to launch. Watch somebody else copy the design only to realize it was a joke. :p

I think nitendo may have an idea with the one handed porn remote. PS3 has the double dildo remote

Hahahahaha pwned!

Seriously, Nintendo is ALWAYS coming out with this weird fucked up way out of left field shit.

And it never goes over well.

Why don't they learn their lesson!?

Yes, this controller concept my be good for SOME NICHE GAMES!

But I don't want to fucking use some ass backwards unintuative design for EVERY GAME, When I could just step over to my PS3 and get the perfect controller to play my games with.

;) :)

With the exception of the Virtual Boy those other two were add-ons that did not HAVE to be used. It will be interesting to see how gamers respond to being forced to play some possibly great games (mario, zelda, etc) with this thing. This time around Nintendo is bettin the farm on this controller since its the only thing to use.

Lets just home some 3rd party companies come out with adaptors to hook our GC controllers up for playing revolution games.

Footage shows them using the device in various ways. Playing instruments. Cutting sushi. Making Mario jump by tilting the controller up. Slashing a sword. Using the remote as a light gun. Performing surgery. It showed an older couple conducting a concert with two remotes. Four girls catching bugs with remotes. Even showed a single person playing with two remotes.

Sounds cool to me. Fortunately for me though, I don't limit myself to one console. I plan on buying all the NextGen Consoles (including the Nintendo Revolution).

Behold the future!!!

You could always use a Gamecube controller.

Same here. I wait for a killer game to be released exclusively for one system and then I make the plunge. This controller is not what I saw coming....I cant imagine it catching on.

Umm, you don't need 3rd parties to do that. They already said the Rev will have gamecube controller ports.

I think the controller looks sweet, i love the motion sensing idea.

SuperScope 0wn3d j00!
and Katamari Damacy is probably one of the best games ever. (seriously)

I see lots of versatility in this controler.. it looks like you can hold it sideways and have a traditional style controler (NES 2 button style). They could probably even re-program the trigger & D-pad side A button as X & Y in that configuration.

One thing that Gamecube showed is that you don't need a bajillion buttons to have fun.. you just need gameplay and an A button. :)

Me head hurts now...time to goto bed and dream about waving my Rev controller around like a light saber.

For the sake of backwards compatability with the older games.

They did not state that it would work on the Revolution games.

I wasn't sure how I felt about the controller design until I read this thread, and then I realized I hated it and that it is the most uncomfortable controller ever. Luckily there are so many ergonomics experts on this forum who are so advanced in their field that they can discern a good design from a bad one with no first-hand experience whatsoever. And wow! If I look at other threads, the same people who hate the Nintendo controller, seem to love the X360 and PS3's controllers! It's almost like the two things are somehow correlated!

Light Saber! I am surprised no one mentioned that earlier. Could we see two player sword fights with these things (despite how retarded that might look)? This would definitely allow for more accurate control of a bladed weapon than anything released so far, which could be good for action games, RPGs, etc. There would have to be some sort of force feedback, though, to let the player know when his blade, or light saber or whatever was coming into contact with another blade or object within the game world.

Off Topic: Read finalgt's signature (couple posts up) - very true and very obvious to anyone who has read the threads on ATI's latest card.

Hahah now that I picture it in my head it will look so funny if you are an outsider just walking in and you see these two guys waving things around infront of the tv.

Anyone see that credit card commercial with the two kids dressed up and the other kids barking out orders......totally reminds me of that. RESTART! RESTART!

Seriously though, how awesome would it be for each one of those control's to represent a lightsaber in Star Wars? Or a shield and sword in Zelda? Or your gun in Metroid? I mean, the old-fashioned dual-handed controller will obviously still have a place, which I think is where Nintendo will just stick with the GC controller (because, face it, it was simple and intuitive), but for awesome stuff where this control suits....wow.
I want to swing lightsabers now.

oh. my. god.

i expected something kinda cheesy and useless that they would try to pass off as "revolutionary" but this makes my worst nightmares look GREAT. from what it looks like this is the stupidest idea ever... maybe i'm wrong but i am not going to consider purchasing this at all until i have tried it ;\

The last thing I want to do is excersize and actually have to do physical work while playing a game. I wont want to have to jump around and look like a retard to play a game. I think this is Nintendos answer to people saying kids dont get enough exersize because of video games.

So its a remote...

Is the Revo gonan be like a TV too? Cool

Possibly missing the point and/or completely misunderstanding the functionality of the controller. Possibly being a smart ass. Probably a little bit of both. It does look like a remote, though (and props to anyone in our armed forces, regardless).

OK had to check again before goin to bed....didnt know the lightsaber thing was somethin I shouldnt of said!! It does remind me of the CC commercial with the kids dressed up and acting out a fighting game. The only thing with being able to light saber fight is how exactly do you move your guy around on screen if your using the entire controller to move just the saber? I am checkin this thread in the AM....see if gets into double digits by then.

My prediction is that it won't be released as shown today.

The form factor on display wasn't the absolute final design for the Revolution controller, and Nintendo reps noted that it is still a work in progress. But it was enough to give an idea of where the company is headed. The controller itself bears no resemblance to the myriad fan-generated renderings purporting to be the real deal. The unit basically looks like a slim, ergonomic television remote control that's about as long as a hand.

I think you would use the analog "attachment" to move your character, swinging wildly with the other hand to slice and dice. That is if the attachments don't have to be physically connected to the 3D sensing portion of the controller (they are attached in the pics so far and they are called attachments, after all).

Well, i have to admit, its very...different looking as it strays away from the standard remote that we all know and love. How can anyone just look at it and say "what a piece of crap" yet a lot of people have looked at PS3's remote and said the same thing yet theyll buy a PS3. People should just wait until its finalized and released and playable in game stores so you physically see how it plays. "Dont judge a book by its cover" comes in very handy right now. Just wait. I think it has very good potential. I would love to see how FPS games play with it. Nintendo's always has far out reaching ideas in the past, and hopefully this one will be good, especially with gamers today.

At first when I looked at it it seemed like a complete piece of crap, and I thought for sure that Nintendo was doomed on this one, but then as I read more and more about it and thought about it, I started to like it. Needless to say the design is growing on me for some reason. I won't make any conclusions until I actually try one out in the store however.

After seeing that video I warmed up to the controller a bit more as it will allow some interesting and more involving gameplay experiences but I still have some scepticism. One thing is that you cant really just relax when you are playing games right now, another is it just looks plain goofy and a third is im not sure if there is going to be enough buttons. I would love to try one of these out but this defintly isnt going to be something Im running out and buying untill I have given it a good play test.

I honestly believe at this point in time Nintendo doesnt really have any games to show though. I would have thought they would have showed atleast a single game that is actually in development for the console. And still no hardware specs.

It was win some, lose some night for Nintendo. I howevor am still on the fence. And seeing as how I dont have a job for the next 4 months It is going to be a hard decision deciding whether or not I should spend the money all 3 next gen consoles.

Wow. This could be the greatest controller ever.
Think about it.
Swinging it in baseball, tennis, and golf games.
Aiming it like a gun in FPS.
Lightsabers (or swords in general).
Flashlights in survival horror.
Using it to drive stick in racing games.
Joystick in a plane.
Others I'm too lazy to consider.

i think its great. one of the big selling points for the revo will be the nes/snes/n64 emulation and that works perfectly for that (in addition to being a dvd remote, if this thing plays dvds that is). And if the revo has gamecube controller ports, then why not just keep using the GC controllers for all the new games?
