Retail Edge 2007!

So, I get home, and there it is 2 boxes waiting for me on the front step. One from newegg with my segate hd, and geminii 2 cooler, and One with my intel reatail edge deal. It took me a couple of hours to get it hooked up and ready to go. I go to plug everything in and bam! I am completely dumbfounded as my keyboard ps2 port is nowhere to be found. Yes , thats right a q6600 processor, 4 gigs of ddr2 800 ram, 250 gigs of hard drive space, and hours of work, held back by my motherboard that does not support ps2 keyboards! Now I have to wait until tomorrow to go to the MicroCenter to buy a usb to ps2 adapter.

There are no words to describe my frustrations.

Hey guys got my Q6700 today.
If I plan on keeping my Intel board, do you guys suggest I just go ahead and get a new Micro case? That way at least.. portability will be an advantage. Good idea, no?
 
i say get a micro case ONLY if you have a extremely big desire to carry it around (like for LAN parties and stuff like that) otherwise getting a micro case limits you in more ways than it benefits you. If you want this for gaming, alot of cards cant fit into micro cases... they're smaller so they hold in the heat and get hotter... obviously if you wanted to expand out in the future and went with a different mobo (since the intel one only has 1 PCI slot and not much else), then you would have to get a whole new case if you changed mobos. If you do want to take it around alot tho and youre not as concerned with "building for the future" then go with a micro case. otherwise if it just sits next to your desk... i'd say IMO not to go with a micro atx case

Yeah grab one of the APEVIA X-QPACK cases. They make great media center PCs, the only thing I don't like is that the front panel cables were too short on the model I got. I think the newer cases may have fixed that though. It should work as long as you only need to add a high end video card and one other card, or an 8800 GT and a couple other cards.

And for overclocking goodness check out the new micro ATX boards released by EVGA. They have a 1333 FSB standard and one comes with a lifetime warranty for a little over $100. My buddy has a board by EVGA and has RMAed it four times from overclocking - company doesn't care! Let me know what you think!

Got my computer built last night - scoring around 12000 in 3DMark06 with damn-near stock frequencies on everything.


Very happy, Crysis is beautiful. :)

Well, the point of this post is to confirm that UPS sucks and you may have problems, or maybe just the driver that I had come by my house who couldn't figure out where I live sucks...:p (happens to be a corner house) but Canada Post and other shipping companies... or pizza deliveries for that matter never had problems finding my address/house (which I did correctly type in at Shop Intel). They could've used google maps to find my house if its so difficult

I have the Q6600 @ 3.80Ghz on H20 with an EVGA 680i board. 3DMark06 at 19,672. Hmm. I skipped this years bundle.

Every time Intel ships something to me, the delivery date is always rescheduled. It's not UPS's problem cuz it never happens when I order elsewhere(i.e. Newegg) Seems like
Intel + UPS = reschedule

WAIT WHAT? really? Im glad I read this... my keyboard is still oldschool microsoft ps2...

Time to find an adapter!
 
For those with usb keyboards. Do not bother buying an adapter. They are usually as expensive as a new keyboard. Look at it as a chance to get a nice shiny new keyboard and mouse.

(PS: I would warn you that I have a bit of a fetish with input devices, so I may be biased, except for the price of the units. After all, if you have a nice new quad core desktop, but a crappy keyboard and mouse, it kinda defeats the purpose...)

I would like to try and scrap as many parts as I can out of that and try to use them for the new PC. I have mixed feelings on a case but this is what I'm thinking about so far.

Intel Board that comes with it.
2g DDR2
Graphics: Not sure yet. Trying to get something basic that I can play COD4 on and a few other games FEAR and etc. But nothing crazy.
Drive: Would like to try and have a few of these. One for Music, One for Videos/TV, one for the OS and one for Games maybe. So I was thinking: Music 320gb Sata, Video 500gb Sata, OS 100-200gb Sata, and a Raptor maybe but don't really see the big deal.
DVD burner/CD rom
Windows Vista Ultimate x32 or XP pro


Old Computer Dell:
2.4 Pentium 4HT
1.5gb memory

As far as hard drives go, I'd have 1 raptor for just the os, and 1 for your other stuff. No need for more than that imo. Personally I am considering just 1. For graphics take a look at a geforce 8600 gts, good price and performance, or even stick to integrated until some sales come up.

so, verification takes a while. Sorry if I missed it somewhere, but after verification how long has it taken on average for them to ship the bundle out? I should be qualified sometime during this month but wondering if I should finish up my new build or just wait for this. Im so impatient haha

Agreed on the 8600gts, or even one of the new ATI 3850's. Especially considering the price/heat/performance.
As far as the hard drives go, I's agree with Zoomin as well. i have a raptor for the OS and 2X160gb (raid0) for my programs, music etc.
As opposed top the raptor, look into the 500gb Seagates, the 7200.10's which are parallel storage. I.e., as fast a raptor, and cheaper for much more space.

It's not just you. Myself and all my co-workers (Best Buy/Geek Squad) that picked 2nd day have been rescheduled as well. It'll still be two (business) days. I'm just happy that mine is shipped.

I'd hate to be one of those who get the, "I'm sorry, but we have exhausted our supply of the CPU's alloted for the retailedge program this year. But keep up the good work and have a nice day," email!!!
Remember there is a reason why this year's bundles are not GUARANTEED like last years.

yes I am one of the noobs that doesn't work at an computer store.
 
If you don't work retail:

A. You shouldn't even be taking the surveys.
B. It's too late to get either of the bundles, you haven't enough opportunity to get the points.
C. You'd never get verified as you'd have to fax in a paystub.


With that aside, anyone overclocking their Q6700s?
 
well after finding out about this package really late, and having to drive 2 hours to a live event to get codes, I finally have become the proud owner of the Q6700 bundle, today 12/02/07 at 12:02 I logged on to recieve my 100 points and put my total over 12K points and jumped off my couch, tripped and fell might I add, and grabbed the credit card to order. they were still in stock and my order is pending.

also the monthly challeneges dont come out till 3-7 days into the month, but by the looks of it, there are still LOTS of Q6700s in stock so you need not worry

Went up to MicroCenter, my old boss made fun of me because I haven't upgraded my computer in over 4 years (Barton/1gig ram/120gig hard drive). Then she said she had lost all respect for me when I said my keyboard was not even compatible with my new computer! So I bought the adapter, get home, and guess what.... It doesn't work! :eek: Now I'm so mad its just funny, but one more trip, a $20 keyboard and I'm typing this on a q6600!

Oh yea and if anyone is wondering about the onboard video:
It plays Ut2004 maxed settings @ 1024x768
and half life 2 at decent settings...

WHY?
That's a 965 north bridge. And an ICH8R southbridge

Why not something like the GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R with a P35 northbridge, ICH9R southbridge, 6 SATA ports and 2 eSATA ports?
