I doubt it can be done. Nobody in their entire development company had anything to do with BF1942, BF2, BF2142, and probably very few were around for BF 3 and 4. I actually bet $$ that nobody in these studios has even played a BF game released before 2014. These aren't gamers that enjoy the franchise, they're just trying to make what the market wants, instead of creating demand with a good game.

Modern setting is nice, but this is the Call of Duty guy. Modern setting is only 1/5 of it. Server browser, art design, no excessive seasons, no retarded character design, gameplay. That is just as important. We all know this will be another Warzone knock off so hard to get enthusiasm up. Even marketing can be straight up BS. When MW 2019 came out they advertised it as a non-nonsense, authentic feeling game. That lasted maybe 4 weeks before they dived into clown alien territory. Which makes it impossible to get excited for a modern day multiplayer game. We assume it will be shitty, and we won't truly know until it is 3-4 years post release.
 
Will we be able to press the red button and nuke the hated opponents in the new bf?

Fuck modern, the genius of 2142 was they were beholden to nothing but their own creativity balance wise

It had simplified the classes down to their essential roles

It had launchy pods that shot you 1000 feet into the air so you could deliberately not use them for their intended purpose and instead steer directly onto the head of some passing infantry 2 city blocks away

It had bipedal mechs where you could take the chance to try and get underneath them to shoot the vents but then it steps on you and explodes 3 seconds later because it tried to walk down a slightly too steep incline as it was leaving

It had flying clusterfuck lag machine death marches where you fought your way though a literal pile of players packed into a hallway where roughly 7 grenades explode every second

WE DIDN'T KNOW HOW GOOD WE HAD IT

Or just make Bad Company 3 and let me literally ruin entire matches again by letting me destroy every single piece of cover within a football field sized radius so the attackers have no choice but to cannonball run though a completely open field

Rush was so broken in that game on some maps and it was arguably better for it

It is Battlefield with a severe case of Consolitius. The shooting and whatnot was so much better in BF3/4, it pushed the mainstream industry forward. Some BF4 maps had similar levels of destruction in certain areas to. The nice thing with BF4 is that you could play infantry only modes in team death match and Domination. It was essentially two games in one. One a smaller, tighter infantry shooter, and another a large, open vehicle/combined arms shooter. Pleased two different groups at once. It is okay to do that when the modes are simple and pure gameplay, and not looter/shooter/battle royale type of things which are designed in a different way.
 
Hmm. Returning to a modern era for...a...modern...audience...oh no!

All I've ever wanted was a BF4 brought to current gen. I've enjoyed (to certain extents) all the ones that have followed 4 but undoubtedly not nearly as much.
 
I think this next one will be an epic return to form. Whether the player base embraces it is another story.

But they got the message, and I think they got close to a solid battlefield with 2042. Hopefully, they don’t feel the need to scrap everything, because I think it cleaned up nicely at the end but never got over the lack of maps.

I haven't played, but I know that here at my place, everyone was waiting for Bad Company 3 because it is supposedly the best and hardest battlefield. Bf3 and bf4 were also good for them.
From the footage of the matches, I see that there are vehicles, I don't know where you got that there are no vehicles in bad company 2 or that they are for those who do not like vehicles,maybe that's why you don't know how to drive vehicles, so that's why it's not good for you.I don't know, I guess, I only know that to successfully fly in bf3 you need very good skills and good friends, and that you also need a lot of practice.

BF2/3/4 are tops and honored 1942 and 2142 as well. Will we see a return to that?? I read he DICE members that worked on those games have left so probably not?

Cool I liked the urban maps for what it was worth that map that had the glass building with the escalators and see thru steps plus the flag on that stupid crash site island also liked the resort map with glass windows everyone was prone around the bushes because tons of snipers.

Isn't 2042 the same as modern settings? BF 3 had good infantry pro maps.

I was pretty good at helicopters but some people were just bonkers. Every so often some maniac would effortlessly fly though the inside of a building.

Although no helicopter could stand up before the Tunguska, AKA the divine hand of God itself. The greatest ground vehicle to ever grace a Battlefield game. It was a rolling apocalypse once you got a feel for how far to lead targets with the main gun.
 
They need to ensure the play testers are fans of Battlefield 3/4 and not Fortnite otherwise it's doomed, again!!

Seriously tho. I started with BF1942 but it got boring as the maps were too big for that era of slow vehicles and combat imho. The Desert Combat mod with faster modern vehicles and weapons fixed that, was super popular and don't think we would have had B2/3/4 without it.

BF1 was interesting but not enough for me to go beyond the free demo. The following BF games looked even less interesting.

For me it was fun playing in large servers for 1942. But eventually I got into Forgotten Hope and loved it. But really my BF tolerance was pretty much up when 2 came out. Disliked lots of maps and the spam got really annoying. Plus the way overpowered choppers/jets.
