I believe that includes missile silos and such but doesn't specifically forbid use in more typical military applications.

I have several times nothing major however there are ruggedized Tablet PCs built specifically to be was where I was going. Apple is not really known for ruggedized hardware which is a concern in military devices.

No problem with my iPhone 3Gs here either. Been mishandled big time between me, my girlfriend, our 11 year old and 5 year old girl. Only covered on the back with a flimsy millimeter thick plastic backing.

But as phide said, Otterbox. Even if they're using laptops (besides Toughbooks), or any other cellphones or smartphones, I'm quite sure nothing is ruggedized up to military standard unless you're talking about those rugged phones NexTel has, or something similar.

until the military lifts the dont ask dont tell policy i doubt any of them would use the iphone.
 
All I know is if they make one a Special Forces Operator can't hurt, and release it to the public, I'm buying it.

If you leave an SF trooper with a 10 lb ball bearing and a 100 lb Anvil, and come back in 10 minutes. he will have broken both.
 
theyre actually releasing a "rugged" Android device sometime in the near future. Theres a video on youtube of someone pouring water on it and it still working.

I just got a mental picture of soldiers missing shots on the battlefield because they have a gun in one hand and iphone in the other.

Seriously? I ahve never used the Android app store, but if it really is worse than the Apple App store, then wow, the state of mobile apps is in worse shape than I thought.

I remember commending back when Apple ran the "app store, now with more than 75,000 apps" ad, that what they fail to mention is that 74,975 of them are absolute utter crap

And the other side fail to mention that the 20,000 Android apps are exactly the same as the Apple counterparts. By the way, there's over 200,000 Apple apps. We know most of them are crap, but there are thousands of good apps too - just like the Android.
