Razer Edge Pro Gaming Tablet

lol, the thing looks like a tank, I doubt it will be lighter after adding all of that junk!

The tablet itself were told to be 0.8 inch thick.
Which is only 0.3 inch thicker compared to a Microsoft Surface Pro, have to be sacrificed due to the GPU.

Let say the tablet adds around 0.6 inch thick with the dock.
That would be 1.4 inch thick.

Do you know that a Clevo 11" gaming laptop W110ER is about nearly 1.5" thick and weigh around 1.8kg?
A much powerful portable laptop(GT 650M), but no touchscreen, and not detachable.

OMFG a 25% difference in performance is big by every definition of the word. Why the fuck did you mod your 640 to 650 speeds if you dont agree?

Those ultrabooks are also not touted as gaming machines, and generally a large chunk of the costs in those expensive ultrabooks is big SSD drives and quad cores unlike a useless 64gb SSD with a wimpy dual core like the razer machine. Man your comparisons...

Im done talking to you its impossible.

Big? Yeah.. or is it Biiiiiiigg?

Why did I MOD it? Coz I just can MOD it? and also why not?

Those ultrabooks come with a BIG SSD drives? Both Toshiba and the acer comes with a 128GB. Wow, Bullshit at its best!

They comes with a Quad Core? Again, talk crap!

You're done talking to me coz you only talk nonsense crap... or should I say BULLSHIT?

Those laptops can be had for around $1100, so that's not a very good comparison.

The ASUS laptop I listed above was a good comparison for a similar price, and would kick the snot out of your pathetic "gaming" tablet. ;)

So, those laptops can be had for around $1100, and are considered ok with the shitty spec?
Wow... very good.

The Asus laptop there is a huge freakin laptop that weight like crazy, thus considered as a fair comparison? clever!

OK, anyone else who thinks this guy is a shill for Razer please raise your hand now...

::Raises hand::

Anyone paying people to make positive posts about Windows 8 and/or related hardware in this forum would be wasting their money.

I like Windows 8 on tablet devices like this however this is something this doesn't appeal to even me, not at this point. The hardware isn't there yet. However it is an interesting concept and I think in time has potential.

PCs have to evolve beyond their current designs and it can't just be about how fast a device that can be produced at the lowest cost. Faster and cheaper hardware in the same old designs has worked well for the PC market for a long time but those days are at an end. Everyone has standard desktops or clamshell laptops, the market is saturated with those devices and there's just not a whole lot about them that's interesting to consumers anymore.

Cars have had an engine, transmissions, four wheels and a body for a hundred years, why hasn't the market been saturated, so why are they still basically the same just with updated technology?

Wanting new shit just for the sake of it being different is fucking retarded.

Guess you just have run out of bullshit.

No worries.

I already pointed out why the POS tablet sucks, but hey, if spending $1k+ on something that requires at least $100 to actually play games like shit on is your cup of tea then have at it.

To be fair, cars are constantly evolving. New materials, direct injection, VVT, carbon fiber, trick suspension, etc. These are all things that start out on high end models, but eventually trickle down.

PCs are moving as well, but nowhere near at the same rate. When is the last time HP, Dell, or Asus (not Intel, AMD, or some other supplier) developed some novel and interesting technology that actually got implemented into a product?

And by "carbon fiber" I don't mean CF itself, I'm referencing production methods. See Koenegsegg, Lamborghini, McLaren...

And at the end of the day all computers are going to have CPUs crunching numbers, but there's a shit ton of difference from 1991 era computers to current day, isn't there?

Thanks for the strawman though.

A gaming tablet is like a 3 wheeled car with a 2 gear transmission. Thats a more accurate car analogy.

But hey calling out strawman arguments while making them...

Last time I checked, none of my posts made any mention of a gaming tablet. I simply made the observation that comparing the car manufacturing industry's speed of innovation to the computer manufacturing industry's rate of innovation.

This is the reason using analogies during a debate is commonly frowned upon. There are always going to be differences that cause the analogy to fall apart.

And if we're being honest, that's still a poor analogy.

No one said they were considered ok, I just stated that it wasn't a good comparison.

Yeah, similar price tag, x86 processors, Windows 8, etc.
Hey, if you like your tablet, you can do what you will with it, no one here is going to stop you.
You did over pay for such under-powered hardware though, form-factor regardless.

Well thank you.

You may also go ahead being a cheapskate.

Maybe you prefer that laptop will always be the same old huge, thick, and heavy laptop, as long as it is powerful.

While those who contribute on the new technology of a portable, thin and light laptop will encourage the makers to invest more on R&D on making it much more portable, thin, and light, and at the same time powerful laptop.

There are already plenty of laptops out there that are light, thin, and have more power than the junk tablet.

This isnt contributing to a new technology its razer FFS its making a gimmick item with a ridiculous price tag like they always do.

Why it isn't a good comparison to a Razer Edge that cost $999.99?
They are more likely the same(thin, portable, and lightweight) compared to a freakin huge and heavy laptop.

So, you think your Asus 17" with a GTX 670M can do wonders gaming on a 1080p resolution on the current heavy games?
Well, good luck with that!
Have fun carrying it around on your backpack. You are basically carrying a 3.9kg laptop alone(not inclusive of the adapter). Some more it is just a normal not so fast gaming laptop! :D

Actually, if you look at how fast new technology is implemented into cars, your looking at 6 years for every refresh, and most of those refreshes are just that, a refresh. What it comes down to is what works, and laptops/desktops are still the best form factors when it comes to PCs for a variety of reasons.

The Razer tablet is a great example of trying to have a product do in a inconvenient form factor what other products do better.

There are already plenty of laptops out there that are light, thin, and have more power than the junk tablet.

Plenty?
Are there such a laptop that are fitted with a dedicated GPU as low as the GT 640M LE that only weigh around let say 1.5kg?
Does it even exist?

This isnt contributing to a new technology its razer FFS its making a gimmick item with a ridiculous price tag like they always do.

Don't you want other laptop makers follow the same path, so that in the future there will be more makers making a powerful x86 tablet, and more gaming developers developed a very nice graphics game on a touchscreen?

Well, they are now(Android and IOS), but just not yet on an x86 architecture, and they suck at performance compared to an x86 tablet.

If the makers and gaming/apps developers keep on investing on an x86 tablet, means that we might not need to have two different gadgets(laptop and a non-x86 tablet) to carry around.

Wouldn't you want that?

Haswell is a very promising technology.
It can do gaming very well compared to a HD4000.
But by the time Haswell becomes a norm, then I don't see why Razer or other x86 tablet makers will be missing out.
Proly a Razer Edge 2 with a Haswell proc, and a new generation of a powerful nvidia GPU?
Or a Samsung x86 tablet with a haswell proc and a dedicated GPU, and so on.

There is no such thing as a powerful tablet, not when compared to a laptop.

Why the fuck would someone carry around a tablet and a laptop?

You keep glossing right over the fact that in order for a tablet to actually be able to play non-touch screen games or productivity software, IT NEEDS A FUCKING KEYBOARD JUST LIKE A LAPTOP.

So again, why would anyone buy a tablet that REQUIRES an accessory that turns it into a laptop, when they can just buy a laptop that is more powerful, has longer battery life, and is cheaper?

Why would anyone want game developers to concentrate on tablets that will always be inferior to laptops and definitely inferior to desktops??? Lets not forget these same games would then be TOUCH BASED unless they had keyboard/mouse or controller support, at which point a LAPTOP would be a much more logical buy.

When did 5 pounds become heavy? And sure its not as portable... Its also a hell of a lot more useful and that super portable piece of crap is worthless while being portable. As a tablet its just pointlessly expensive, as a gaming laptop its weak and underwhelming, as a handheld gaming device its poor at best.

Razer is trying to make it jack of all trades and its so poor at all of them for the price that you are better off buying a laptop and nexus 7 and sticking the 7 in the laptop bag. At least then when you want to game you can really game and not just on a shit tiny low res screen and when you want ultra portability you pop out your tablet. Best of all this can be done for less money than the razer nonsense and will be far more usefull.

Want to see how awesome this is go try gaming on the 11" alienware and imagine it being smaller. Anything thats not consolized beyond belief will make your eyes bleed.

Also, pro tip when you try to introduce a product to market that is intended to replace 3 devices having it cost more than all 3 combined is a recipe for failure. I can buy a laptop with those specs, nexus 7 ad PSP for what they want for the bundle. WTF razer.

So, you think your Asus 17" with a GTX 670M can do wonders gaming on a 1080p resolution on the current heavy games?
Well, good luck with that!

Wow, you obviously don't know too much about anything.
Go to cpubenchmark.net and compare the difference between the 670M and the 640M, it's a world of difference.

Also, gaming at 1080p isn't that big of a deal any more.
This isn't 2007, get with the times.

Well, they are now(Android and IOS), but just not yet on an x86 architecture, and they suck at performance compared to an x86 tablet.

These devices are running ARM processors and weren't necessarily designed for x86 level of performance, but they are designed for functionality and high battery life and power efficiency, something that x86 processors have yet to offer.
Don't even bring those into this argument, it's comparing apples to oranges and in the end is pointless.

We've pointed you to quite a few examples of x86 laptops that are very feasible as portable gaming systems that would kick the snot out of that pathetic, overpriced excuse for a tablet.

I agree with Disposed, by the time it starts to act like a gaming tablet, it needs a keyboard and mouse, defeating the whole purpose, and in the end, should have just been a laptop.
This is more of a novelty device than anything else, with no real merit or foreseeable future, at least not in that ridiculous price range.

Re-Post it back, since it has been removed :

No such thing as a powerful tablet when compared to a laptop?
Well, the Razer Edge is much more powerful than most Ultrabook laptop.
They are even much more powerful compared to those normal laptop with just a 7670M, GT 620M, or with no dedicated GPU.
Offcourse you shouldn't compare it to a gaming laptop coz it's not portable, not lightweight, and also not thin.

So what if it needs a keyboard to play most of the PC games?
Atleast you can turn it into a tablet when you need it to be.
And even if it looks more thicker with the keyboard dock. Will it suddenly turned into a 15" 2.5kg laptop?
There are alot of users of Clevo W110ER 11.6" that weigh around 1.8kg and nearly 1.5" thick, and I don't see them complaining much about its dimension for its size.

So why would anyone buy a tablet that REQUIRES an accessory that turns it into a laptop, when they can just buy a laptop that is more powerful, has longer battery life, and is cheaper?
Because it can turned into a portable lightweight tablet, while it can also turned into a portable and lightweight laptop?
Is that really hard to understand?

Why would anyone carry a tablet and a laptop around?
Again, are you being dumb?
Maybe not everyone, but there are those that do, coz a tablet have its good use during certain time, while laptop are as well.
Last time when I owned a Sager NP8150, I sure heck don't take it out in airplane just to do some light gaming, while I can just use my ipad to burn some time on gaming, movies, and so on.

Why would developers developed a touchbased games?
How do you explain those android tablets and ipad games?
Some more, Microsoft Surface Pro tablet will come out, and there will be many users using an x86 tablet.
Also like I have explained earlier, if other makers start following the same path of a tablet with a dedicated GPU, why not?

5 pounds compared to a 2 pounds is a Biiiiiigg difference! :p

Why need to carry around 2 gadgets, when you can just carry 1 at a time?
Let say you wanted to do some simple work on it, you can just detach it as a tablet and directly do your work on it, instead of taking out a huge crappy and heavy laptop just to do some simple work on an x86 apps. How convenient.

So, just because you hated gaming on an 11", doesn't mean everyone else will hate gaming on an 11", or a 10".
You get to decide for everyone is it?

Also, pro tip when you try to introduce a product to market that is intended to replace 3 devices having it cost more than all 3 combined is a recipe for failure. I can buy a laptop with those specs, nexus 7 ad PSP for what they want for the bundle. WTF razer.

Well, your logic is like saying a smartphone is a failure.
It is consist of a phone, a camera, and a gaming gadget.
So, you prefer to bring your old symbian phone, a digital camera, and also a psp.
So clever!

Wow, you obviously don't know too much about anything.

It is you who obviously have no idea what you're talking about.
cpubenchmark.net? CPU?

GTX 670M can play All of the games smoothly on max settings on 1080p?
Keep dreaming!
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-670M.72197.0.html
Offcourse the GTX 670M is faster than a 640M LE, but when it runs on a 1080p resolutions compared to a 640M LE running on a 1366x768 resolutions, the FPS gap won't that much at all!
Again, you're praising a GTX 670M?
Try Hitman Absolution on 1080p with all the eye candy on.
Start praising your GTX 670M afterwards when you see the shitty performance.

Please update yourself.

Err... did I ever say that the x86 and ARM are the same?
Why the fuck would I mentioned that I want that the developers to develop apps/games on the x86 touchbased itself if I didn't know that they are not the same as the ARM?
I did say that its performance are way different didn't I?
And that you have just re-explaining what I said about the performance. So?

You guys have pointed quite a few x86 laptops that YOU GUYS THINK it is feasible as a portable gaming system. 15" is not that portable, and weight more than 2.5kg is not that light.
Having it for the advantage of gaming only(though not so powerful on a 1080p screen), while not giving the feasibility of doing some simple work related thing just about anywhere is just not enough.

Though the Razer Edge will mostly turned into a laptop for gaming purpose, for now, doesn't mean that you will always be needing the keyboard all the time for other task such as browsing, watching videos, doing work, etc. which you CAN'T do on a normal laptop without having to bring along the whole bulk of laptop even when you don't even need the keyboard at a time!

Responses in green, considering you are the only person to defend this shitty product and signed up just to do that, you are guaranteed to be involved with Razer somehow.

Offcourse you shouldn't compare it to a gaming laptop coz it's not portable, not lightweight, and also not thin.

So your argument for the Razer being powerful compared to laptops is to use a subset of laptops? I have news for you on that front too, at least ultrabooks run with quad-core processors. Funny how you seem to have forgotten the CPU aspect of this shitty tablet.

So what if it needs a keyboard to play most of the PC games?
Atleast you can turn it into a tablet when you need it to be.

So it is just like a laptop when you want to play games, but is usable as a $300 tablet without it? that sounds great! I mean, doing the same thing as a $300 tablet for $1k+ just SOUNDS like such a deal. Using phrases like "there are a lot of users of X" with no supporting data is worthless, stop trying to build arguments on bullshit like you have been.

So why would anyone buy a tablet that REQUIRES an accessory that turns it into a laptop, when they can just buy a laptop that is more powerful, has longer battery life, and is cheaper?

Some more, Microsoft Surface Pro tablet will come out, and there will be many users using an x86 tablet.
Also like I have explained earlier, if other makers start following the same path of a tablet with a dedicated GPU, why not?

I was talking about what kind of games can be developed for touch screen, considering every game on the Ipad and android all have basic UI with simple inputs to accommodate using two fingers. Stop trying to bring the MS Surface Pro into the argument, the Surface Pro does not proclaim itself a "gaming tablet" and it is most definitely primarily meant for business use.

A lot more useful? Just because the specs are better?
It's way less useful coz it can't be turned into a tablet, cant be carry around easily, and much2 more.

Yes, less money for a more powerful computer is a better deal then more money for a less powerful computer. You also once again keep trying to talk about portability, except the fucking thing is designed to use handles or a docking station that eliminates that advantage if you actually want to use it for what its intended purpose.

5 pounds compared to a 2 pounds is a Biiiiiigg difference! :p

Not when you cant hold either one up and have to have them resting on something to use.

Because you have to carry the controller accessory and the dock accessory in order to actually use the POS like it is intended to be used, kind of hard to make a case for portability when you have to carry around attachments that end up taking up just about as much room as a laptop.

So, just because you hated gaming on an 11", doesn't mean everyone else will hate gaming on an 11", or a 10".
You get to decide for everyone is it?

You are seriously going to try and say PC gaming on an 11" screen is fine? There is a reason tablet games have the simple UI and controls that they do, and it has to do with size.

Responses in green, considering you are the only person to defend this shitty product and signed up just to do that, you are guaranteed to be involved with Razer somehow.

Say whatever you want.
It shows how immature you are.
Just because I don't agree with your cheapskate thinking, doesn't mean you can bullshit whatever you want.
Maybe that will makes you feel good somehow, after talking bullshit non-stop.

So your argument for the Razer being powerful compared to laptops is to use a subset of laptops? I have news for you on that front too, at least ultrabooks run with quad-core processors. Funny how you seem to have forgotten the CPU aspect of this shitty tablet.

Funny that you and your friends keeps on mentioning a Quad Core on the ultrabook that I've mentioned. Where the heck did you get to that assumptions?
Toshiba Portege Z930-S9302 ($1479.00)
-Intel® Core™ i7-3667U Processor
Acer Aspire S7-191-6640 11.6-Inch Touchscreen Ultrabook ($1099.99)
-Intel Core i5 3317U 1.7 GHz
Quad Core?? Seriously? Do you even know what a mobile Quad core processor is?
See, this is why I kept on arguing back, coz you guys kept on talking crap, and then move on even after I have specifically point out your crap.
You guys just don't get it about laptop.
The lighter and thin it gets while maintaining good performance(good specs), heat management, the more expensive it'll get.
There are not that many choices of laptop with a dedicated GPU(640M LE atleast) that can maintain its portability , and lightweight.
Another example of Windows x86 tablet, but this time with a more shitty spec :
ASUS VivoTab TF810C 11.6" 64GB Win 8 Tablet - $799(price not including keyboard dock)
Intel Atom Z2760 Dual-core CPU
http://www.excaliberpc.com/621286/asus-vivotab-tf810c-11.6-64gb.html

If you keep on being a cheapskate, I guess you probably will never understand it.

It is an x86 tablet.
Dont know where you pick up the $300 price point there for an x86 tablet that can run an x86 work related apps on the go.
Like I said, again and again, you have been talking nothing but bullshit!
How can you not fucking realized that!
As for the users of Clevo W110ER, you can just google it.
It is a very popular laptop if you are aware about the laptop world.
Which in this case, I highly doubt.

So $1k+ for a "laptop" at home that has an inferior CPU and GPU to other $1k offerings, or a $1k+ tablet that can do the same things as a $300 tablet, sounds great!

Look at the Toshiba with NO DEDICATED GPU, but cost more due to its portability.

As before, $300 x86 tablet?

Except you cant game on this POS tablet unless you start turning it into something the size of a laptop.... except if you use it like a tablet in which case you just spent $1k+ to play games a $300 tablet can.

Even after transforming it into a laptop, it is still a MUCH more portable and lightweight laptop that you can play some movies or finish your work on an airplane rather than taking out a 15" bulky and heavy laptop. Imagine blocking a passenger next to you when he/she wants to go to the toilet with that big bulky laptop of yours.
Again, $300 x86 Windows Tablet?

Yes, less money for a more powerful computer is a better deal then more money for a less powerful computer. You also once again keep trying to talk about portability, except the fucking thing is designed to use handles or a docking station that eliminates that advantage if you actually want to use it for what its intended purpose.

If I go with your logic :
Get a desktop then. Also get a shitty cheap laptop for outside used purpose.
No use gaming on a laptop coz it'll perform like crap compared to a desktop.
So, don't buy a laptop with a dedicated GPU. Put your money on the desktop.
Stop wasting on a gaming laptop. Its intended purpose is for gaming, but it performed like a shitty cheap desktop graphics.

Not when you cant hold either one up and have to have them resting on something to use.

It's like you have never owned a tablet before. Feel sorry for you.

Because you have to carry the controller accessory and the dock accessory in order to actually use the POS like it is intended to be used, kind of hard to make a case for portability when you have to carry around attachments that end up taking up just about as much room as a laptop.

You can just bring the laptop dock only, no?
Will you always be doing gaming on a controller outside?
If you have to attend a meeting, and you don't need the dock, you could always bring the tablet alone. Rather than bringing a huge bulky laptop for a meeting.

You are seriously going to try and say PC gaming on an 11" screen is fine? There is a reason tablet games have the simple UI and controls that they do, and it has to do with size

Yeah, tell that to all of the owners of Alienware M11x.
Maybe they will regret after hearing your concern.

Wait what lol.. That's a bit much. Couldn't I just get a MS Surface Pro and hook up a controler :)

The Surface Pro uses an HD4000 GPU. Not exactly a gaming chip.

The article mentions the Razor Pro uses a Core i7 but fail to mention what graphics chip it has. If it also runs an Intel GPU, I'll pass - not that I'm looking for a gaming tablet anyways.

Yeah I only just saw this article and thread and responded to the first comment without noticing there's already 4 pages of discussion going on. I should have read everything. My bad!

What owners? There was a reason it was discontinued.

You seemed to know the reason.
What reason then?

Howbout the clevo W110ER owners?
Try google about the laptop and see how good the acceptance of the laptop is.
Quite a number of makers(Sager, Origin, etc) rebranded it to their own model.
