Rage 2

Yeah I have no idea I suspect it will just launch on Steam instead of opening the other client the reason for the move in the first place. I'm stuck with the Bethesada launcher because I preordered like a sucker.

Cancel it. If you didn't get a key you can cancel a preorder from anywhere.

I went to submit a ticket and it's asking for transaction # and my account only goes back to February I think I preordered it back in December. The only thing I'll miss out on basically are achievements though Steam basically.

I have a really nice GMG deal sitting here for this but I see it's for the Bethesda client version only. (The caveats notwithstanding including M76's point)

I know the game is on Steam. If I want to get it on Steam it looks like I would have to go direct and right now I see no deals whatsoever.

I am not a fan of the Bethesda client but it's a pretty nice savings. For those of you getting this how are you going about it?

Am I looking at a redundant situation where the Bethesda client is mandatory even if you buy it on Steam? (Like Uplay is for Ubisoft games)
As long as the choice is mine I don't care what launcher it runs, sure I'd prefer steam but if I get a better deal elsewhere I'll get the game elsewhere.

Since this is a game that I very much want, I'm just going pay full price for it on Steam on day one or two. (just long enough to see what a few people say) For me, voting with my wallet works both ways, and I like that id/Bethesda backed off of the exclusivity to their own launcher. Time for me to show some support when someone does something I like, rather than just complain when they do something I don't like. :D

This looks good...I hope it's good. After RAGE, though, I can't bring myself to pre-order or even day-one buy.

True but I bet the client sucks. I'd rather take Steam and the discount. But it sounds like it will be similar to CD Projekt and Ubisoft. If you want the game on steam you need to buy it directly on Steam. Otherwise, GOG and Uplay. Oh well, nothing is perfect.

The one thing I do hate though are clients which only have a single publishers game. I don't mind clients that have a big diversity (Steam) but I don't want a client for each and every publisher. I'm okay with Origin because it provided some needed competition but otherwise I'm not a fan of this practice.

That's my basic feelings as well. Though, I'd honestly like a world with no "launchers." Just a store front of my choosing. Current best way of having that feeling is using a front end. But, that can be a pain.

recommended... for what? 1440p? 1080p? 2160p? 60FPS, 144FPS?

Bethesda also clarified more details on Rage 2's resolution and FPS across all version...the PS4 edition runs at 1080p/30FPS, while the Xbox One edition is 900p/30FPS...if you have a PS4 Pro or Xbox One X, you can expect 1080p/60FPS on either system...on PC, you can play Rage 2 at any resolution your setup allows for, and there are no frame rate caps...

ADDITIONAL VISUAL FEATURES
  • FOV Slider (50 to 120 degrees)
  • Show HUD (on/off)
  • Reticle Style (default/simple/none)
  • Motion Blur (on/off)
  • Depth of Field (on/off)
  • Ultra-wide (21:9) and Super Ultra-wide (32:9) display support (PC)

Heh. Some people seem to like those. I see nothing wrong with such toggles.
I was referring to the fact that now the ability to turn off these are apparently a feature.

I must be missing something. I thought those times (mid to end 2000s) are long gone, and stuff like that has been standard for a while. Not that I've been playing a lot of new games.

This game looks to be a ton of fun, I'm really surprised there isn't more coverage on it.

There were a bunch of games where you couldn't turn off motion blur or film grain or a number of other fake cinematic effects that ruin the game. Hell Anthem didn't have the option implemented in the alpha, it was only fixed due to the outcry.

Rage 2 and Borderlands 3 are probably the last shooter games I ever buy the genre is milked to death with them and I had my fill of them in my life.
Destiny 2 nailed in for me it takes everything out of me playing that game it just doesn't do anything for me.
If you want a model for a good game design take Monster Hunter kinda looks like a shallow EQ2 clone but it still work despite online disconnects.

I don't care about the BFG being locked behind collectors editions....those editions are nearly worthless without something like that. PLUS from what I hear you get it when you start the game, which sounds like it'll throw off the difficulty balance quite a bit.

BFG is an iconic gun, but I tended to hoard the ammo in Doom....unless you hit a hard part where you're like "FUCK IT" PZZZZOOWWWWWWW

The humor feels very "generic video game humor" (though the live action bit was cute) but the gameplay stuff surrounding it looks good. Hopefully this ends up better than the first game. Still not 100% sold, but I'm definitely "feeling it" a bit more than I was before.

Very rarely do we escape the realm of "generic video game humor" in a big budget game. I've learned to either lower my standards temporarily :D or tune it out. I'll allow myself to laugh and have fun with something like Borderlands for example. Some of it is genuinely funny, but some of it is pretty juvenile. Still, I enjoyed them.

I find there is more subtle, dry, and interesting humor in a lot of indie games. The Messenger and Shovel Knight are great like this.

I also like some good stand-up style humor too, but I don't know how they'd squeeze that sort of stuff into a video game properly short of the actual stand-up comic scene in Leisure Suit Larry. :D

Bulletstorm meets Mad Max meets Borderlands...looks more like a Gearbox game then iD Software

Possibly just from a wasteland/punk/mad-max sort of aesthetic I guess. However, the actual visuals have a definite id-quality to them. The weaponry looks id and RAGE for example. The characters are kind of a mix, but then, character art and models were never id's strong-suit, (though RAGE had some of their best ones) so these seem like they'll do fine. (Excluding demons of course. Nobody models a demon like id. :D ) I'll know as soon as I start playing though. Non-id-engine or not, I'll know how much hand they had in the game the minute I get control of my character.

As a fan of all of the above though, I'm pretty sure I'm going to love the hell out of this game.

it's probably 75% Avalanche Studios and 15% iD Software

and 10% aunt jemima

1% Danny Brown seriously couldn't get that song out of my head after about a month after they used it in this game. I actually downloaded all of his albums from the past few years I never heard anyone Rap like that before.

I hadn't watched that particular trailer yet. The thing I didn't like was the guy's voice. I hope it's used sparingly. I always preferred the silent id characters best. I know a lot of people would disagree with me there, but...

Steam and the Bethesda clients both have their clients updated for preloading.
32.6 gig download

only complaint with the trailer was they missed some vital flashback scenes between marriage and insemination

That's not too bad of a size compared to a lot of recent id games. Must be the engine
