I'm really wondering this. I never thought of myself as picky with monitors or TV's.. I used a Samsung 245T (1920x1200 VA panel) for about 7 years until it died last year. I really loved that monitor. I was on a tight budget, so I got myself a replacement.. a cheap Acer G276HL. $170, 27"... cheap. I thought it was okay. I remember the day I got it, I was completely taken back by the difference between that and my 245T.. and hated the Acer. But I grew accustomed to it. At this point, I also was using my old Q6600 8800GTS machine.. so graphics and performance were meh anyway.
Fast forward to this past August. Upgrade my PC and can finally play games on Ultra. I got a second G276HL because I was using a tiny 15" LCD as my secondary. But still wanted something better to play games on.. graphics weren't great.
A few weeks ago, finally have the money to buy a new monitor. I was deciding between an IPS panel.. or going with a 144hz 1ms model. I do about 90% gaming on my PC. All genres. Shooters, MMO's, action, RPG's, racing, everything. Gaming is most important. I do a ton of research and grab an ASUS VG248QE because of reviews. Immediately regretted it when I got it, downsizing from 27" to 24" just was bleah to me. And it bothered me it was a different size to the side 27"s. So, I buy a BenQ XL2720Z on sale for $400. Get it, I love it.. or I think I do. I like it WAY more than the ASUS I returned. Playing BF4 or CS:GO and such is a huge improvement..
But.. the graphics of it leave a lot to be desired to me now. I know there's no perfect display out there for everyone, but damn.. Now I'm looking at 2560x1440 IPS panels, wondering if I should try and return this at some point to try one of them.. but don't want to lose out on re-stocking and shipping again. I do some graphic design work, so I did plan on eventually upgrading one of the Acers to a nice IPS 1440p panel anyway.. I just feel like I'm not going to be happy with anything.
Also having this issue with a TV I just got. I was using my Samsung LN32A650 for all these years, but needed something bigger. Got an LG 50LB5900 for $499 and while the size is fantastic.. the picture quality doesn't feel anywhere near my old LCD.
I know a lot of others have this issue too.. some have been through almost every display out there!
