Wouldn't that cause a lot of vibration on the screen? I think that would annoy me.

I hate my desk... I don't even have enough space to fully use my mouse pad.
Ikea dioder lights...dont buy the crap round ones youll see on the site..they are cool and same effect but not remotely as bright..the bar ones in a group of 4 are amazingly bright
I would have to agree with Digital2D, I have the strip of 4 on the back of my monitors and they are really bright with no other lights on in the room, even with a floor light on they still put out great light. I want to get more of them but at $50 a pop for four bars, they are a little expensive for just lights.
This is my other workspace....my SFF build rests here (see sig for specs).......nothing fancy.....I play L4D with my bro/niece/friends, and this is the computer they use . When starcraft II/diablo III comes out, this computer will get used a lot more....

yeah the LED's are briiiiighht.....sheeeeesh I can turn off all the lights up here and it will still be bright enough to see the keyboard.
