What motherboard though?
Of course, the key component. Gigabyte ep35-ds3l. Works perfectly vanilla. If you're looking to build a hackintosh, buy that board (I paid $50 from ZZF clearance for a new board) and use the guide for the regular P35-ds3l. They function the same. F5 bios is fine, that's what I use.
Sweet, because I'm ordering all of my stuff for this tonight and am going to buy that exact same board
My little Hackintosh is going to cost a grand total of $235! Not bad. It should perform about on par with a higher end iMac.
Of course, when the new Macbooks come out... I'll probably get one of those, too.
Good stuff. Here are some tips from my hours of painful trial and error.
Buy SATA everything. You can fiddle with ide and kinda sorta make it work, but its so not worth it - kernel panics everywhere, most distributions won't boot, etc.
Buy a SATA DVD and SATA HD. I used IDE both and had a world of troubles. Bought an SATA HD and used a IDE->USB adapter for the DVD drive and it was smooth sailing. And yes, I used the jmicron ide chameleon patch... still didn't work until I went SATA.
Otherwise, its very straightforward. Don't choose Vanilla on your first try, you need to install a hacked kernel (like sleep) before you do a vanilla install.
Kalyway 10.5.2 is the best I've found for this mobo, and this guide is very helpful:
There's a better guide (called Leopard Soup) but I can't find it right now.
The install is super easy and faster than an XP install. Mine took about 15 minutes from disk in the drive, first boot to an up and running Leopard desktop. I used Nvinject and Nvinstaller to get my graphics card up and running perfectly and everything is gravy.
Yup. I've got a SATA HDD and DVD burner. Also, I'll be using Kalyway 10.5.4 as my baseline (I've already got it downloaded and burned to a DVD).
I'll be using an ATI card (just a HD 2400 Pro I had laying around) but from what I've read on Insanely Mac, the kext install is super easy.
I don't plan on using anything more than the 2400 Pro will be able to deliver... but if that point comes, I'm definitely going to grab an 8800 GT.
I feel ya. I shouldn't have bought the 8800gt but I didn't like how the dock was sluggish to bounce with the 8600gt on my Macbook Pro. I don't do anything that uses the gfx card except kinda Photoshop, but not enough to justify anything like this.
So I spent $150 to get a smooth dock. Worth it? Yep.
I'm typically that kind of person, too. Like I said though, if I notice it being a little slow, I have no problem dropping $150 on a new card.
Anyway, I'm definitely looking forward to having a "Mac". I REALLY want the new Macbooks to come out though.
Just bought a new keyboard to replace my G11. Lovin' it so far!

vischo- is that a dual monitor arm connected to a glass desk?

Some of these workstations are pretty BA! But come on this thread should be posted Game Station! haha
Sorry guys. Guess that is a good illusion, it is an IKEA MIKAEL desk (black/brown wood) w/ glass top. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40079218
Although, I probably could have installed it on my other glass desk.
Ah, I see. I have thought about getting a monitor arm but I'm guessing it wouldn't work with my glass desk.
I had my monitor arms on a glass desk for a few months and nothing broke.

For all those who have posted their Ikea Jerker set ups. Do you have any tips on wiring? I just picked up a Jerker for $80 CDN and it was in mint condition, now I need to go about hiding my wiring.
I have seen lots of clean Jerker set ups here and was hoping to get some tips.
Any help is appreciated.
For those who think their workstation is trashed, guess again!
Not mine BTW.
wow I wonder if that is a mock up or real. and if so how did that persons monitor not set the house on fire from over heating.
More importantly with that many dis-carded cigarette butts lying around, I am sure that individual is long since dead from cancer!
Talk about a filthy habit!
You KNOW they played WoW.
A lot of people use this for cable management on their Jerkers, Galants, etc.: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50035115

The definition of WoW.

MOM!!! Bathroom... BATHROOM!!!!
Actually, that was real. My brother is a member on NASIOC (subaru forums), and the pictures came from a landlord who owned an apartment complex or something. They said the lady looked perfectly normal, but her apartment was just stacked with trash. Literally knee deep or higher. You haven't even seen the beginning of the pictures.
