Dude.... you gotta be psychic.... how'd you guess the Rebel XTi??!! My parents were going to get me the Senn HD650, but instead they chose to get the XTi for me for Christmas. :eek::p

Too bad I can't play with it until after the 25th.... ah well!

check out avsforums if ya really wanna do it. I got the idea and did most of my "research" on those boards. It's big :eek: , but i also think it blends in just about as well as one could possibly expect for being a 6 foot carpeted column.

Rebel XTi such a sweet camera. For some reason I think I'd take the XTi over the HD650 although that is providing I have some cans that work reasonably (like my HD595's). With your setup, I think a XTi might be the best choice at the moment since you can have sound (while bothering your next door neighbors) and take pictures of the wacked out looks on their faces when they see what kind of setup you really have. :p

Glad to see another [H] member with a black ominous tube of nausiating bass.

Download something like sweepgen (freeware), and have it a little above your tuned freq. At around 13-14hz.. lets just say thats the first time ive ever seen a door in another room of my apartment slam against the door frame like that. Felt like the floor was moving up and down, plates in the kitchen were rattling, walls were creaking, and I couldnt hear one bit of it.. I used the cheap-o 15" daytons, and even with a 6" port they chuff like a steam-train at lower than about 30, if Im really trying to make noise.

Sonotube subs kick ass. Decent at playing music, mind-blowing in gaming and movies with things exploding. Nice job on yours, they actually look professional. Mine looks like I had too many beers while making it.

You can set it to sweep a particular frequency, or just stay at one frequency.

I guess my Polk R150s don't do too well at 5hz. :(

Weird smell from them, damn. Talk about burn-in generator...

Finally got to test this Pioneer 2.0 receiver I got, started clipping at about 25 out of 30 with a 5hz tone, pretty built I would say.

The Xti is probably the best entry camera into SLR.....theres not much that its counterparts can beat for around 800$ Its popularity reflects that

And if you look at the wall on your right....you should see a red dot dancing on the wall

I already have a rebel with a zoom lens, filters, and a macro lens...the Xti would be a meager upgrade and im not that hardcore of a photographer,

Methinks I'm going to get something audio again (probably the HD650)... I just got back the scores for my second board exam (Step 2CK) and I did VERY GOOD! This solidifies residency for sure in Chicago! I'm so happy I'm going to treat myself!

Look for a new gadget here next week or so! :D

Today, I was at the Apple Store and I was looking at the Bose speaker kit I was getting my gf, then I began to think that maybe she'd like the Apple iMac more as I caught her playing with it a month earlier.. then I looked at the price tag of $1200 and I thought that I could pull it off if I held off upgrading some audio components in my system.

I won't tell you what I did afterwards.

x-sls will be my front then im gonna wall mount the x-ls :) im gonna use b-tech 77, my room is small i wish i had space for x-mtm's and x-sls:(

Nothing all that special in comparrison to this thread, but I love them already.

Polk RTi4's paired with a Harmon Kardon AVR 146, connected with 16ga wire I had lying around. Running analog from my laptop currently, will likely be running most of my audio from my desktop once it is in working order again (dead mobo, blech). I haven't burnt anything in, or really set it up correctly... but I can already appreciate the difference from my Logitech x230's (temporary setup that was in use for far too long).

I apologize for the crappy pics, my sister was guarding her new camera like a mother, so I had to make do with the old piece of shit. More later maybe :D

PERFECT! This was as good as we could get.... about +/- 1.5db from 22hz to 100hz (where we had the speakers take over). I could have pushed the 20hz peak a bit higher, but I didn't want to push the Velodyne's woofer too far out. I didn't want it to hit Xmax excursion point prematurely... if that's even possible in a bedroom (probably not!).

The best part about the subwoofer... the remote control that allows for on the fly change to the presets for the room response graphs, muting, volume control, power..... SAWEEEET!!!!

Quick review/impressions of the subwoofer:

I've heard a LOT of subwoofers and I'd like to think that I know what good bass sounds like. I know my system is truly reference in this realm and that my system is one of the best at accurately reproducing infrasonics. Now, this Velodyne Digital Drive 10 subwoofer is something else. I now know why Stereophile rates this subwoofer's family at their top Class A list of recommended components.

Truth be told, this subwoofer is a bargain for what it does. At $2,000... I've heard numerous other subwoofers that pale in comparison to the accuracy, the speed at which it handles the transients, and the sheer musicality of this subwoofer - especially once dialed in using the SMS (subwoofer management system)! I have heard REL, JL Audio, Martin Logans - everything except the truly large Wilson Audio subwoofers, Thiels, and Torus.... I would say the Velodyne DD is truly impressive.

I have owned almost 10 subwoofers over my stint in this hobby - including several SVS subwoofers which I found to be bumbling giants compared to this guy, no doubt and no joke. Experienced with HSU and AV123 subs.... none on the same level.

The DD may not have the last word in output - probably belongs to something like the JL Audio Gotham... but what the DD series seemed to show to me was that it was pound-for-pound, one of THE best subwoofers I have ever laid my ears on.

This thing has:
1. A large magnet structure and complex voice coil assembly... plus a kevlar reinforced woofer.
2. Servo controlled for distortion reduction
3. Sealed - no port turbulence, fast as all hell.
4. SMS included - allowing to tailor the subwoofer's response to the room it's in! BEST PART OF THE SUB!
5. 1250w of class D amplification (RMS)....
6. Remote control... something I'd never seen for sub!

The SMS room-correction system is so good, so ingenious... it's well worth the price of admission. All I do is hook up a video source to the system (an old 13" TV sufficed in our case), hook up the included microphone to the subwoofer, set the mic on a stool and place in listening position, and use the sub's remote to do an initial room-response EQ. Then, it was time to play with the gain of the parametrics and flatten the response as best as possible... all the while, the sub was running sweeps from 15hz to 100hz. After setting the room-correction, the sub was set! To add to the fun, there's a button on the remote that allows me to kill the EQ setting and let the sub function as it would without the help of room correction. When I press that button, the sub is still tight but certain frequencies are accentuated. The main sonic character of the Velodyne remains, but there is an aberration in the frequency response.... the sub's not as svelte or stealthy as it should be.

No worries, one button click and the sub is back to being room-corrected! The DD10 plays smoothly, flatly, and oh-so-musically!

So musically accurate that I was listening to my brother's relatively lowly system and found myself coming to grips that I may have some aberrations in my reference system's infrasonic response. I've heard Hotel California at least 30 times in my system, and I swear that I've heard a particular bass nuance that I've never took notice towards in my brother's budget system that I haven't heard in mine!!

I think it's safe to say that I'm getting my own Velodyne DD subwoofer... probably the DD-15 to pair with my electrostats.

Lastly, when I asked my brother for his honest evaluation of the Velodyne DD-10's performance.. out of 10... he gave it a 20.

As for me, I think the Velodyne DD series is COMPLETELY on a different level than all their other subwoofers. The Servo control along with the SMS room-correction technology is fantastic! I think this subwoofer is the best pound-for-pound musical, tight, flexible sub for the money.

To say that I was impressed is an understatement. I'd give it a full 10/10.
 
Heh, I have 2 15"s in my room.

Not subwoofers though, only woofers.

Still... they make quite a lot of movement at 5hz.

Maybe I shouldn't putting a ~100W 5hz signal into a speaker cabinet with basic capacitors as crossovers with crappy tweeters and stuff.

I will get 2 12" Daytons for my main system here in a while, first up is getting my 50" Samsung plasma.... I know, I am only one check away from getting it!!! So cited!!!!
 
Funny you mention that, Monty my friend...4 years ago, I oogled at the SVS B4+ subwoofer, mainly because it could hit 120db at 20hz. I used to look for subs that could hit the coveted 10hz mark.

I've learned that it's not about output, but moreso about the quality of said output that is the big determination of a good subwoofer. I'm done with getting subwoofer purely for max output.

I'm rambling again...

Well, with movies you really only need the "boom".

Besides, most of my music is at~192-256Kbps and it is rap and rock, it is either 2 12" Daytons, or one 12" BIC-H100.
