I don't know about you guys, but as soon as I get a package with some kind of equipment, I open it and play with it ASAP. Forget homework, forget sleeping, forget eatting; I just get it out and hook it up. Only the absolute required (class or work) keep me from opening it up.

By the way, I just got a Marantz DVD/CD player to match my stereo better. I'm very happy because I got such a great deal on it. Got it brand spankin' new off eBay for 70 dollars shipped to my door. By golly, it was sealed and really was band new. This model sold for 300 dollars in stores normally and I couldn't find the price anywhere near that low, even used! It's the DV4600 which was known as Marantz's lowest end DVD player but still kicks my Sony's butt in quality.

That's what I would do too! However, I'm very meticulous about opening the package... I fold the plastic bags that the audio thing is in... very neatly.... and put it back into the box. Maybe I have a slight bit of OCD or something... I dont know... self diagnosis? LOL.

Anyway, congrats on your system.. everytime I see it, you have something new to add to your sonic nirvana machine.

Check this beast out,all done with setup and calibration. Amazing match with my Dynaudio Contour S5.4's. Simply a sub to keep company to speakers even in the 30-50K range! Fit and finish is exemplary,this small sub weighs in at 130lbs,the Gotham will be over 300lbs. These best anything in thier price range right now!

Next to my RSW tower,the sub right to the left is a Klipsch RSW15.

The Fathom makes mincemeat out of the RSW 15's 15" driver... the surrounds are no match! Amazing... astonishing even. I suppose you'd want to hook up Velodynes amazing SMS-1 equalizing system to that bad boy and flatten all the peaks in your system?

If I were to get a sub, I was going to go for the $5000 Velodyne DD18.... or if I wait until I'm graduated... then I'd get none other than the vaunted $10,000 Velodyne DD1812.

No holds barred bass is the way to go... but clean and quality must be our top priority, Ear!

I only had the Promedia 4.1s then.... and the gap has closed quite a bit my friend. Give me some years... in another 4, we'll see if you have to play catch up.

I have a Velodyne SMS1,it does a good job,the JL Audio also features an auto correction system! It has a supplied mic you connect to the front panel.Works well too. The Velodyne system has on screen display,I use the SMS1 with my HGS18,a DD18 if you want.

Good review of the speakers you did here.I may get a pair for my computer to go with my XFi Elite Pro.Plenty of good quality MP3's to play since I joined eMusic.

JL Audio subs disapears like Velodyne's best! You do no longer have a boulder is the system,the sub integrates perfectly,a disapearing act. Best of both worlds,definition and output to move the floor when needed!

BTW I am getting Lamm monoblocks before Christmas! To keep my Tenor OTL's company. :D Ah the High End,a delight for the ears and eyes!

Yes you made quite a progress from your ProMedia speakers,no shame.I started with a Clairtone boom box back in the day(1983 was the day) :p

We are lucky to have the funds to taste the best in audio,a privilege.Good to see I am not alone in the audio craze,audio is money well spent to me.


BTW I discovered some folk music on eMusic that is simply a delight to listen on a quality system,there are some hidden gems there that put to shame the old references I used to test systems! Guitar recordings,drums that will send you to another world! Electronica of such high quality mixed with acoustic instruments,just too damn good to miss.

where does this money come from???

you said you sold your prior speakers and just "constantly" upgraded but the minis cost $1700.. and you didnt sell anything. A $5000 velodyne would not be "upgrading" from anything really either

I have to tell ya,the JL Audio subs are the equals of Velodyne's HGS/DD series in sub bass quality,simply incredible.No more audible bass colorations.

I take the GOTHAM against the 1812 any day,and have one on order! An absolute killer,in every respect. Anything I throw at the f113 does not strain it! And I have an HGS18 on had as well as the Aerial SW12,Revel B15,Klipsch RSW15,Paradigm Servo 15 V2.0 .Some heavy hitters of the sub world.

However, I will chase your best 2ch speakers and the electronics behind them.... that's my goal.

Well I am not competing with anyone.Just with myself,as a doc I hope you will ahve a cure for my obsession with audio.

And I joined AV123 forums,looks line an interesting place. The Klipsch forums keep me busy a bit,as a top ten poster you have to contribute a little. ;)


Two channel wise I will buy Dynaudio's Evidence Temptation speakers,these rival anything out there in the super speaker arena.Being tall and slender I can fit them anywhere. :p

On the amp territory,upgradding from a FPB600 will not be easy,I only see big Goldmund monoblocks and FM Acoustics,gear that is priced in the If You Have To Ask range.

BTW the new Sunfire D series subs are incredible as PC subs to help the Klipsch 5.1Ultra.A superb combo for those on a ...budget. :)

Good question. Definitely depends on the kind of speakers: high end, middle, low, computer, etc. Fry's has good middle/low like Polk. Partsexpress.com has some homemade/Dayton speakers available. There was another website I found that had like Monitor Audios but forgot the address.

I 2nd his question though, I'm interested as well where the newegg of speakers is...
 
ya newegg is got only comp speakers and thats exactly what im lookign for a really good reliable website that sells all types of speakers.
 
Check eBay for good speakers, too. I got my awesome Energy C-1s brand new off of eBay.
 
The real place to get speakers, is salvation army. (im not kidding) They have some nice speakers there. For insanely cheap too, since people drop them off having no idea what they are worth. Then salavation army sells them for lik 50$. I picked up a pair of technics 3-way speakers a few weeks ago.

When I find my camera i'll post pictures of the speakers.

Got a really nice pair of infinity bookshelf speakers from goodwill for $10 a few years back. One of the woofers was blown so i replaced them both from a pair of yamaha speakers i had laying around. For what i spent those where killer speakers and they sounded great even with the yamaha woofers.
 
you shouldve got it reconed! It's great getting deals like that. My dad just gave me a pair of awesome speakers, I havent had time to hook all of my speakers up yet, since i've been working on my car. Just got a set of a/d/s 2-way components, they sound awesome

Well originally i didnt expect much out of them so i just put the woofers in to check them out but once i started listening to them they sounded great so i left them that way and pitched the yamahas. They are still great speakers my brother has them now and he loves them.
 
Haha I guess that is understandable. I wouldnt have expected anything out of the speakers I got at Salvation Army, except for the fact that they allow you to move stuff around in the store, so I hooked them up to an amp and tested them first :)
 
ya well I have 2 technics SG900's that my uncle wanted to throw away a few years ago that he got from a friend back in the 1990 's from some European cataloge when they were in the Navy. These 4- way speakers are amazing for being like 15 years old
 
well to tell you the truth I know zip about speakers compared to you guys but these speakers sound better than my fathers 4 year old bose system downstairs, imo
 
Just got some Infinity Primus 250s to replace the HTD level 3 that blew out on me. I opened it up and the voice coil is SHOT. Big time. Thats what I get for playing it at full volume all the time. Just breaking in the 250s and they sound pretty nice, they are much more sensitive and therefore MUCH louder than the HTDs. The Acoustech H100 is thumping along happily too :)

Impressive looking speakers. I wonder how the sound of those compares with the Primus 150's. Bigger usually means better to a degree.

That sign has a story behind it. And that shell is getting turned in towards a new keg for next weekend :D

The 250s have been breaking in for the past few hours and they are starting to sound sweeter and sweeter. My 55wpc HK has NO problems powering them to deafening levels. They are almost effortless in making sound, whereas my HTDs were visibly straining to produce these volume levels (lots of excursion on those 6.5"s). Bigger is better I guess.
