HAHAHAHA!!!

Too bad I paid for it all in cash. I choose to buy used books for school and instead blow it on audio gear. I'm almost done though, I'm nearing the top of what I can do with my gear.

Next up... Rogue Tube preamplifier to smooth out the sound.

Oh yea, every time I buy used books over new ones for school, I save $6000 too..

id like to apologise for the bad quality pictures, i totally suck as a photographer. :)

Do it big in the dorm haha

nice setup. How are the M-Audios? They seem a little high though on the stands... but being in a dorm room this might not be a problem since it's probably a little cramped anyways.

(oh.. btw, just a reminder that your sig needs to be 10 rows or less) ;)

the m-audios sound fantastic. I have them setup with the bx10s and it makes for an encompassing sound field. imaging is accurate and dynamics are very tight

Time for my contribution to the discussion. My photography skills ain't the best, plus I've indulged a bit in that bottle of Jim Beam on my beloved Jerker desk, so please forgive the less than stellar pics.

I replaced my Klipsch Promedia 2.1 system with a pair of Energy Connoisseur C-1 bookshelf speakers and a Fisher CA-880 Stereo Standard integrated amplifier. I'm constantly amazed with the audio now produced for my games and music. I prefer 2-channel audio for my PC. The 7.1 stuff goes to my home theater (Yamaha RX-V2700 & Definitive Technology speakers). I picked up the Fisher amp for a steal from an estate sale. For 2-channel audio, I’ll take the soundfield generated by a quality vintage stereo amp or receiver over anything you can buy today.

My Asus V6Va notebook has been my main PC since I sold my two year old desktop back in May in anticipation of Core 2 Duo. I'm pleased to say that my new desktop with Core 2 Duo E6600, Nvidia 7950GT, X-Fi Extreme and lotsa other goodies will arrive in about a week. I'll update my pics when everything is set up.

You should have kept the Promedia sub :) Hooked it up the the tape out on the reciever, and set it to a low volume.

It's nice to see that you are enjoying your new audio setup Wolf, and it's very nice to see that you find it better then your old Klipsch computer speakers.

If I may ask, about how much did the two speakers and receiver set you back ($$$)?

Yea, rougeqc21.... those speakers are not in the best spot....... unless of course you use them to fill the room up with loud volumes (and being a studious student in college, that wouldn't be the case). ^_^

I'm very impressed to see other's are starting to consider things other then your standard run of the mill computer speakers. Maybe this will create a little tension with the computer speaker companies........... hm..............
A sign of the times to come for computer audio. ^_^

Towert7: Yeah, I'm thrilled with my new audio setup. The Fisher amp cost just $85. It's a solid, well-built vintage stereo amp in near-mint condition that pumps out 100 watts per channel (peak). The Energy speakers are brand new and cost $155 including shipping. I bought them from an eBay reseller. I also invested in some good cables to get the most out of the equipment. I considered adding a subwoofer, but I'm very pleased with the sound as it is.

Mr. Wolf: I love your setup, looks so damn clean and bet sounds amazing. And I can only speculate how much better than those promedias haha, I was on gigaworks before I made the change.

Chair: Yeah I know direct field... When I'm listening to music I'm never sitting at my desk so I have them set to fill the room.

Tower: Haha, loud is good, I keep them at or below half gain at all times. And what you are saying is true. I have talked 3 friends in the past week into buying the BX6As and the Rokit RP6's. Comptuer speakers can't hold a dime to monitors or a decent set of bookshelfs.

And for those that think I was misled into buying these as they are not good for "general listening" let me say this. I grew up with two fully McIntosh furnished home theatres in my house, one of which now has been turned into a music room with XRT2Ks so I know dynamic imaging when I hear it. I bought the monitors as they were by far the most accurate speakers in the price range I was looking in. Would reccomend to anyone

Thanks, Rouge! I'm gonna do some serious cable management when I set up the new desktop, next weekend. I've put it off for too long.

And, yes, this new audio setup sounds amazing!

Hey Pini,

I saved on my audio catalog, purchasing a used one! Here is the result...

the small cardbox boxes...

and...

Tenor Audio 15W monoblocks...savings done by buying used books. :p

Picked up a new display and did some re-arranging.

Rears. they're about 8 feet back and just under ear level. I'd like to bring them closer at some point but I need a new room layout for that.

Possible noob-alert question...

Why do so many of you remove the front grills from your speakers? Is it just for aesthetics or does it improve the sound?

One it does improve the sound, slight improvement but an audible one.

Two,to show off the speakers posted. :p

Joey,

It will not be B&W 800's,I am going for some efficient gems(undecided yet) to match the Tenor OTL amps.Ready bto lay the goods to find a match made in heaven.

The some of the finest low power on planet Earth with Audio Note and Lamm. This is the summit of amp refinement. It does not get any better than this. My Krell FPB600 takes a wild backseat now.

Got bored last night and spent about 3 hours redoing my setup. Now I have 2.1 off my PC and my TV. Finally getting some use out of the Speaker A/B switch on my receiver. And the new 22" lcd is a nice addition.

I, too, have an Amazon jungle lurking under my desk. 'Tis a distasteful sight, to be sure. This weekend, in fact, I'm going to venture deep into that dark, foreboding realm and try my level best to clean and organize my cables. I consider it my little deforestation project.

I know I know.. i'm just trying to think of HOW to actually manage though cables. think i'm gonna spend some time on cableorganizer.com today and see what's there for me.

You could tie up the extra cable length with elastics like I did. I'll post pics later and show you what I mean.

I just like the look. Looks more impressive with no grill :)

Sans grill:

I think mine are better with the grill, though I do like the look of that tweeter.

Y'know, I probably could have sexual harassment charges filed against me if I blurted out that tweeter comment in the workplace.

I'm gonna see what I can do with a roll of duct tape. Directly below my desktop is a back panel that spans the length of the desk. I think I can tape the cables behind the panel. I'll post before/after pics if successful.

Ha. Talking about a speaker you absolutely hate, "Man, I'd love to blow her." So many dual meanings to everything...

My biggest challenge will be if I can summon the patience to do it right.

Wow...just wow... That is all I can say. I hope you have the time to enjoy them. BTW - does that short jacket indicate you are medical, dental or op school ?
