In real life, no. It's more of a black'ish color, although it does have a little purple in it and I guess under the right lighting conditions, it will look a little purple.... but not really to the degree of the picture. The camera really picked up the purple reflection. It's been cloudy the past few days, so I wasn't able to take a picture using natural sunlight. Thus my photo's are not ideal.
The other color's are spot on though.
 
Realy Nice Pic of the HD 580 a friend of mine just bought them still have to listen though.
Like the standard :D

I have his old HD 490 which I throw around all day ;)
 
towert7..you have alot of horsepower running those 580's. Your sys. is capable of pushing some highend HP's;)
 
I recently updated my rickety old Sony 700's to a pair of Pioneer HDJ-1000's, and I have to say I am pleased. The construction is quite a bit better, and the sound is definitely better. The bass is less washed out, the highs are much crisper.

Thanks. Yea, they are my dad's..... I'm just listening to them when he's not to see what they are like. The equipment gets put to better use with my darth beyers though, have no fear.

I have a pair of AKG K701s for computer use, and some Shure E500s (which I never use since graduating college a few months back)
 
I use the Razer Headsets, I love them when I was using them with my XFI. But I love them even more since I got this Razer Barracuda AC1 for a late bday present 2 days ago. I fainted I didnt know what to expect.

I know some might not like the idea of 5.1 headsets, or dis them.But I let my ears do the testing, And I like what i heard. As for the sound card It made the headsets even better.

I still can belive what i hearing while using this sound card with the headsets. But any way, When I used the headsets with my XFI they sounded great after you tweak the headsets and the XFI mixer settings.

If you dont tweak it right then it isnt gonna sound good. but if you tweak the settings right then it does.

That's why some people here diss them.

When you start getting into the higher end headphones, tweeking with EQ's does'nt become a necessity.

Still, glad you're enjoying your headphones. Enjoy them while you can.

I am heh I already knew what settings to use since I had a Earforce HPA before so I used the same settings I used then heh. Yea I'll enjoy them til they fall off my desk some how one too many times and break xD.

My biggest argument against that 2 good drivers will beat 6 crappy drivers any day of the week. But... if you like them... enjoy :p


In other news, I got the HD580's today :). They sound magnificent, and my headfive does a wonderful job driving them. I don't know quite what the Sennheiser veil is all about... but I don't think I am experiencing it. Detail is fantastic, as is soundstage. They are tighter and stiffer than I expected, but methinks they will soften over time. They still need lots more burn in time, but so far, I am wicked impressed. I have the 600 grills on them already... hopefully the 650 cable will come tomorrow.
 
That's great that you're enjoying them Viper87227. Think they will replace your grado's as your main headphone of choice?

I know! I was so surprised at that too. I first tried to put them on right out of the box, and man...... these things could be worn by kids! After the first few days, they still have a vice grip compared to my other headphones....... (after my first listening, I didn't know what was giving me the headache, the vice grip or the actual sound, lol). Hope they loosen up some more.

You say soundstage is fantastic............ but remember, you're comming from grados! :D

Replace my Grado... no. Compliment them nicely, you bet. Grado still takes the cake for rock, which is what most of my listening is, but I have found the 580's to be particularly awesome with acoustic and other slower stuff.
 
pretty basic headphones from panasonic. Has volume control on the wire and sits nicely on my noggin with the behind the ear clips.

Can't stand the ear cans or the buds. I don't know about you folks by my ears tend to deluge when covered in hot enclosed materials.

I am entirely unsure what to do about the headband. On the one hand, I know that having it all black would look dead sexy, and I bought paint stripper a few days ago just for that occasion. On the other hand... the Sennheiser logo on top looks very nice... I don't want to get rid of it :(. I wonder if it is possible to buy just the headband from an HD650.
 
Viper, how did your order the HD600 grills? Was it on senn's website (couldn't find them) or did you do it by phone. And what part number is it?

I like the black look better..... and although a black headband would be pretty sweet, it would be hard to make it look professional.

He didn't want to spend 300$ on the HD650..... it was a chore just getting him to get these.

I'm holding out for the HD700, think it will happen any time soon?

I hope not. I just got these HD650s a couple weeks ago. I don't even have my proper amp for them yet (damn shipping over christmas). This was supposed to be my last headphone purchase, even though I want to hear what a recable sounds like on them...


Poor wallet.

Did it by phone. Stock #092815, $7.92 per grill. Not sure how long of a wait your in. I got mine three days after I ordered, but was talking to someone on head-fi who ordered them two months ago, and still no sign of them, and senn told them on the phone they are still back ordered... so maybe I got lucky? The cable I ordered online.

As far as the black goes, if done right, it can look fantastic. But... I loose the senn logo... I dunno what I want to do. Check out Kramers mod job on them though... a bit of paint stripper went a long way.

Dang Adrian.... you really wents balls out, didnt you? Amazing that your headphone costs about half of my speaker pair.... and those arent even more than 1 lb! You know, now that you have arguably the best headphones on the planet, you now know that you have nothing else to upgrade to, right?

Nice acquisition though..... havent heard the Orpheus but I want to.

They are a very nice pair of headphones. I really enjoyed hearing them at the National Meet. I have no experience with the Aristaeus, but Mikhails amp drove them very well. When is your beast of an amp arriving Adrian?

On the contrary my friend... the Summits just went up to $12K retail from $10K. WHich makes my aluminum Summits $13K.... which would mean that I still win in resale value!

Mwahahahahah.....

BUT I will agree... the Orpheus will probably give you just as much euphoria as the Summits do for me... or maybe more? Mwahahaha.....

The question is, when will I get my own pair of Orpheus?

Man.... you never run out of money do you???
 
whats so special about those headhphnoes that make them worth $15 000? are they made of gold and diamonds or something?

my $30 headphones sound better than apple's earbuds...heck my sony w300i's earbuds sound better too... I've never seen a set of headphones that are so ridiculously expensive, I'm just curious on what's behind the price.
