So i wanted to add some new LEDs to my aerocool 3T case in the empty bay drives -
i out them in but it lookied awfull as you could just see spots of light.

but with a piece of tracing paper and some handy sellotape i made a neat glow effect using the tracing paper as a light defuser. hopefully its ghetto cos i used tracing paper and sellotape and if you lok closely you can see how the paper is a bit wavy due to it being slightly too big

dont have pics atm but ill post them soon as i take a couple

When I was removing my chipset fan, I lost one of the pins that hold it into place. They are on a spring and when I pulled it off the motherboard one of them went flying and I have no clue where it is. Since I can't use one only, and without something to hold it, it would be useless.

I used a zip tie method :p

I'll post a pic later.

i lost one of the springs on my scythe mine socket 939 retention bracket, so i just took apart a ball point click pen, and cut the spring to length, and it works just fine.

Im not talking about the spring, im talking about the clip that the spring was on. The spring sent it flying somwhere.

Not so much a ghetto mod as it is a ghetto thing to do. Ya see, my IDE cables are all of the stiff rounded variety, add to that my PSU's kinda shrimpy on the cords while my case is pretty tall. This resulted in... no way to get my other hard drive in order.

So my solution was to get it connected and then just sit it on an empty cover for a CD spindle.

I'll just have to remind my roommate to keep an eye out for it. =P

i've done that, lol ii actually had a fan sitting on the case cover but i cut a hole for the fan to suck air and blow on the hdd, also same on the side of the cover.

Waiting for my RMA. T_T
Got the 120mm fan blowing on the gfx card since this case has absolutely NO airflow. Then I've got the hdd cage from my Antec 900 on top with my drive that has all my file on it. Definitely not the desired situation but meh the A64s still kicking ass, that is until my c2d gets back :D

When my Abit northbridge fan failed, I took a spare ramsink, sawed it in half with a junior hacksaw & then superglued it directly to the chip. It's a method that I perfected when clocking the hell out of a 64-bit FX5200 a couple years back - you but a blob of thermal paste in the middle, then blobs of superglue in the 4 corners. People always recommend hot-melt, but you'll find it's too thick & unless you heat up the heatsink with a hairdryer first, it'll cool & solidify too fast, leaving a gap between the base of the sink & the surface of the chip. The machine in question ahs been running fine ever since.

You didn't perfect that. That method has been around since the p2 days.

The fan controller lights were shooting right in my face when I tried to sleep, soo I decided to disperse the light a bit. I cut the LED's off the fan controller...and reattached them with torn up IDE cable.

I figure this is pretty ghetto, since my Compy doesn't even have a case..(this isn't sig rig..lol). I am currently, and have been, modding it's actual case, for about a month now...

Oh my god! Is that the "Desperate Housewives" PC Game? LOLOLOLOLOLOL! :D
I see that damn game everytime I go into WalMart, and look at their piss-poor selection of games. You shouldn't admit to playing a game like that! :p

EDIT: Does anyone has any ideas on how to mount little 60mm fans on the northbridge, and get it to stay put? (I don't care if it is ghetto) when I get my SS case replacement, I am OC'ing the shit outta my C2D... but my mobo in sig gets HELLA hot !!

I'm interested in that, too.

Not sure if this qualifies. I slapped this together out of boredom and to see what EL wire looked like. It's got a 200MHz Cyrix underneath there I believe with 64MB of ram and a 4GB hdd. Was going to make it into a ghetto NES but I was having a hard time getting NesTicle to run properly...i'm betting it was overheating.

Floppy drive is mounted in the back and scribbled over with sharpie to try and eliminate all vestiges of it's original beige color. The power supply sits outside the case and I blew a circuit breaker in my grandma's house before I realized the switch on an AT power supply hooks directly to the line current. Painful lesson indeed. The switch is for the EL wire.

Case itself was a VCR that had gotten stepped on...oddly enough the VCR remains functioned perfectly after being extracted from the case and are now hooked up to my tv at home. Always cool to watch the wheels spin in an open VCR.

Window was shaped using wire cutters and a pocketknife. Scrap piece of acrylic was then taped to the underside of the cracked VCR casing.

Yes, that is the PCI video card you see peeking out of the tape slot. The keyboard hooks up internally and there was no room for a PS/2 or Serial mouse so you just have to make do without.

Haha man. Sitting here laughing, when you say shaped you mean hacked apart with a dull knife. Dude that windows awesome, keep up the good work :p

LOL, it was actually my now ex-girlfriends game, lmao...I did play it a few times, just to see the hilarious sex scene...for the 10 minutes I played, I think the character screwed the entire neighborhood..HAHAH

I'm guessing it's because it's a Cyrix! Some of them don't do Intel-code that well.... ;-)

When they where new, you couldn't even run Quake on them... They had to release a patch! :)

Seriously? That sucks. I never knew. This cpu came from one of the first computers I owned. It's been sitting in a spare parts bin ever since I got tired of playing in DOS.

So after an hour of CSS, my GPU temp was 89 Celsius. Bad. So I took the fan off the top of my case, which wasn't doing much anyways since there were a bunch of cords hanging right below it, and came up with this. The GPU temp dropped about six degrees sitting at idle with this, just a substitute until I get a better case. (For the record that floppy drive isn't hooked up, I'm just too lazy to take it out.)

Hotglue gun works wonders, will keep them the fans on, but also easily removed again.

This is my Ghetto Rig: While it may lack the pizzaz or flare of your ordinary water cooled system, this beast brings 2800RPM's of cooling turbine power through a measley 70dB system. The patented arrowhead channel of focused fury commands the respect of fellow nerds with its ear drum crippling low frequency roar when set to speed 2. Speed three is reserved for combating the neighbors obnoxious music, or for punishing your dog for crapping directly on your clock radio and stepping in it, again. It comes in black&white and the bungee cord comes in a color of your choice. The joy of this particular setup doesnt come full effect until you experience re-tapeing it over and over again. Enjoy..

OMG! I laughed so hard and my wife doesn't even understand! Best ghetto mod evar!

I had to get rid of some cats when they started shitting on me while sleeping. :(

I apologise ahead of time, im sorry I have to say it, "kitty hot plates"

not a great ghetto mod but it works. zip-tied a spare 80mm fan to the extra pci slots in the rear of my pc to help cool my HOT x1900gt.

you call this a ghetto rig?! plz. Look at my pic. This is classy. This doesn't make your friends worry about you. I've sold computers with similar upgrades. Try using some non-conputer fans to cool your rig, then we got contest. Until then -3 food stamps

Needs more ductape, bleeding fingers, bent case pieces and a fan that is missing a blade.

Other than that, it looks way classy.

meh oh well. i dont want to completely trash my case so i went for something simple, not something to rack up foodstamps lol. and trust me, i have done things more ghetto than this but not necessarily to my computer. here is my old rig with my ghetto mods. http://www.hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1028361153&postcount=464
the other night i split my knuckle open on a heatsink and had to ghetto bandage it with some paper towls and duct tape.

i didnt get a picture of it wrapped up but that is what the cut looked like.
and yes i took it with my shitty camera phone.

Damn deep cut? or just kinda a slice? my friend at school in foods class was cutting cheese he cut his finger right open where u could see all the tissue n stuff, and he did have to go get stitches, the damn foods lab teacher drove him to the ER, and met his ma there.
