Planetside 2

Never had any fps issues in the beta or now. Fully maxed out with i7 2600K and GTX670 and the lowest I ever saw was 45fps at the Crown during a massive battle.

i have an i7 920 and a 660ti and it dips to 35ish - 45ish in most big battles

All servers run all continents. Go to your factions warp gate, find the console with the globe above it, go to the continent of your choice.

Oh, thanks... had no idea. Guess I should have looked that one up.

Runs smooth maxed out??? There's a billion threads on the planetside forums and reddit how poorly the game is optimized. It appears their engine (like Everquest 2) is hardly utilizing more than 2 CPU cores. What's your FPS in battle?

I don't know what to tell you, man... it's runs smooth maxed-out for me. My rig is in my sig. So, I don't know what to tell you about the "billion threads" on Reddit stating otherwise. I'm not them, they're not me.

I have video of me playing for hours. I'm hovering around 50-60fps, sometimes around 50fps during large battles on my rig, and it's a smooth experience, occasionally dropping to around mid-40'sfps (but that's still plenty smooth for me and doesn't stay there long most of the time) with everything maxed-out on high. I don't know what to tell ya. I'm also running @ 1920x1080 on a 27" monitor, so I'm not running some huge resolution.

I'm running an older driver for my 580 as well. As weird as it could be, maybe that's actually helping, since newer drivers seem to be having issues. I've already seen one person mention that they rolled back and it ran better.

Had to redownload the game from Steam tonight after multiple attempts trying to get into the game. Kept getting kicked out with G22 error. I had just updated to the latest nvidia beta drivers and rebooted my machine. Hopefully the server queue stuff dies down.

I am on Mattherson as New Conglomerate. J3ST3RM4A3.

ETA: Game runs buttery smooth on my i7 3770k @ 4.5 Ghz, 16 GB RAM, and GTX 580.

I know its "free 2 play" but if you like this game then please support the developers by buying some station cash or whatever it is you can buy. Finally, after about 6 years of waiting, we have another large-scale dedicated PC FPS with all the features PC gamers expected before being compromised by shit like COD and BF3. They are letting you choose to pay for stuff, so if you do like what you see then pitch in.

Also, don't you dare fucking say you don't have the money. If your computer can run it, then you have the money.

I am going to play the shit out of Plantside 2 without giving the developers a dime just because of the last part of your post.

:) I hope you are kidding. Not supporting a good game because of someone else opinion? Do you have your own opinion? :)

played it last nite, was lost and confused, kept on getting taken out by infiltrators. I'll be giving it another go, runs smooth on my rig.

It runs smooth because the maximum graphics preset available in the game menu is high settings. If you enable ultra settings in UserOptions.ini, performance suffers massively-however there is a significant increase in image quality, particularly texture resolution. With ultra settings enabled (specs in sig), I drop to 20-30fps in intense battle situations. I would say the game needs definite optimization at these settings.

Which is probably the reason it's not available as an in game option, yet. What is your average fps?

Playing with medium settings and no v-sync I was averaging 20-25 fps, there is something definitely wrong with the game right now. The game also crashed once after 2 hours, and crashes every time I exit. I get the feeling the game is still in Beta, but the developer had to push it out the door.

I have got to try this when I get home!

Thanks for the tip on the ultra settings, High runs quite well on my lappy so I will give this a try.
I will also be buying some station cash as soon as I have a bit of a understanding of what upgrades are worth the money.

Great game, hard to belive free is a option.

So can someone please give me the run down on what all you're supposed to do in this game? I just installed and played for a bit but it was quite confusing.

I agree with this 100%. Finally have a PC exclusive FPS that is actually make use of the tech that the consoles will not be able to play. I'm surprised this has not received more attention (SOE bad marketing?). Its easily the best F2P out atm.

Do you have someone your friends with who played the beta and can walk you through everything? There is a whole ton of stuff going on.

Played a bit last night, captured quite a few facilities. Never played the beta, but I've seen some videos so I had a general idea of what to do. Playing VS, enjoying it so far.

Friends are all playing this, I went ahead and started the download on Steam. Looking forward to trying it out... I was invited to beta but never took the opportunity to try it out before release. Looking forward to being confused as all hell. :D

Also, don't you dare fucking say you don't have the money. If your computer can run it, then you have the money.

Even though I plan to support the developer if I end up enjoying it, I hate this argument for anything. What if you spent all your money on the device, so you can't afford or just don't want to buy anything else, since you know, you just dropped $1,000+ on a PC? It's like people saying.. "you have an expensive smartphone, you can definitely afford some apps for it!"

I played last night and was totally lost for the first hour or so. I only saw a few enemies for the whole hour so I logged out. I watched a few videos and logged back in and started to figure out how to get into the action; once I was there it was fun.

A hundred or so of my team got stuck inside a facility for a good 10 minutes when we got inside and the barriers didn't switch to ours. How do you take down the barriers? It's annoying to see the other team run out to take a few shots and then run back inside out of reach.

It depends on the area-at warpgate, it's 50-60fps on average, but once you get into thick action it drops dramatically. At default high settings, I never drop below 45fps-at ultra, it can hit 20fps in heavy action.

haha. I went 70-11 last night playing as an infiltrator. I almost felt bad sniping people as they land in their drop pods. I can imagine them watching the tutorial screen getting all pumped up only to instantly die when they finally get in the game.

I had a blast last night. Playing on a full server was just epic. While I was on, my side (Vanu) took over a large base that the Terran was holding. Felt good man. The game ran very well maxed out on my computer. But at one point my frame-rate nearly halted (was getting 1-2fps) and I had to kill the process. That never happened during beta so I'm not sure what that was all about. But other than that, it was a smooth experience.

Feels good to finally have a typical FPS (I don't really consider Tribes the typical FPS though I do enjoy that) that I really enjoy playing.

GPU physics was available to be enabled in the beta near the end, so hopefully that gets re-enabled soon.

It seems to depend on location for me. Last night i was getting 20-25fps, it was a three faction fight in the very center of the continent, i think Amerish. Esamir seems to perform better, rarely falls below 40, but hovers at 45.

I will try beta drivers to see if it helps.

noob spawn campers is probably what they thought. :p

I never played Planetside 1, but decided to give PS2 a shot.

Overall, my impressions were that it is a mediocre title, but a decent F2P title. Most of my issues stemmed from the inconsistent graphics (some things look amazing, but other things don't) and server load.

A perfect example is the wildly varying textures (characters can look fantastic, environments can look god-awful). Another is inconsistent draw distances (zooming in on a Sniper Rifle can look horrid at times). Hopefully some future patches can address the graphical qualms I have. I run the game at max.

Server load is my fault, as I chose a low population server. I found I was running most of the time, with no enemies in sight. Sometimes I'd run for 2-5 minutes, get sniped and have to start again. I'll try again with a high population server. I expect I'll find it much easier to get in the fight!

I think I will give it another go tonight.

In this case, the game can be supported/paid for at any time. If you spend $1,000 on a PC and can't find the cash to throw $10/$20/$30/$40 at devs sometime in the next few months, then you're just making up bullshit excuses.

You shouldn't be running around in the middle of nowhere too much, but that comes with experience playing the game and learning how the map flows. Most long-distance travel is done via vehicles, and if you really cant find something to do then just redeploy back to your warpgate and hop in a galaxy to the frontline.

This is a little over the top, but frankly i agree.

I will likely give them some money just because for a free to play game, this thing is just amazing. The scope of what they're doing, how much fun i'm having, etc... they really deserve some money IMO, and i would not feel bad in the slightest for tossing some their way for all the fun i'm having.

This is something I'd really like to know. What's the deal with all the walls you can't walk through? What controls these? Sometimes there's a whole base that's walled up, sometimes it's just a room and the whole team is camping on the outside of it... which gets boring quickly. It'd be nice to know what i have to do to take down the shields so these fuckers can't be pussies.

Spawns rooms have barriers that fall when the base falls. As soon as that happens, anyone inside quickly dies. Until that happens you can safely fire from inside those walls and hit people standing outside of them, something attackers may not know about.

Some bases have large walls that block only vehicles from entering. Infantry can walk right through them. Take down the generator and those walls drop and your tanks can roll in.

There is a lot going on in PS2, just try to absorb a bit at a time.

Check out RivalXfactor on youtube. He posted a big bunch of tutorial videos that have the stamp of approval from SOE. There is an entire video on capture points, shields, and generators that should answer your questions about how to destroy the shields. I think they might even be accessed from the game or launcher..not sure havent played yet.

I'll do that. Thanks!

There are some very good tutorials on youtube about all aspects of the game. Basically you have to find the generators assoicated with different types of shields and take those out.

Here's a list of the tutorials: https://www.youtube.com/user/PlanetSide2

Getting about 45 FPS medium-high 1200p, with a 920 @3.8 and a GTX 260. Big battles drop to about 30.

Is everyone playing on the absolute max FOV? Isn't it weird that it only goes up to 77 or something?
