All servers run all continents. Go to your factions warp gate, find the console with the globe above it, go to the continent of your choice.
Runs smooth maxed out??? There's a billion threads on the planetside forums and reddit how poorly the game is optimized. It appears their engine (like Everquest 2) is hardly utilizing more than 2 CPU cores. What's your FPS in battle?
I know its "free 2 play" but if you like this game then please support the developers by buying some station cash or whatever it is you can buy. Finally, after about 6 years of waiting, we have another large-scale dedicated PC FPS with all the features PC gamers expected before being compromised by shit like COD and BF3. They are letting you choose to pay for stuff, so if you do like what you see then pitch in.
Also, don't you dare fucking say you don't have the money. If your computer can run it, then you have the money.
I am going to play the shit out of Plantside 2 without giving the developers a dime just because of the last part of your post.
It runs smooth because the maximum graphics preset available in the game menu is high settings. If you enable ultra settings in UserOptions.ini, performance suffers massively-however there is a significant increase in image quality, particularly texture resolution. With ultra settings enabled (specs in sig), I drop to 20-30fps in intense battle situations. I would say the game needs definite optimization at these settings.

So can someone please give me the run down on what all you're supposed to do in this game? I just installed and played for a bit but it was quite confusing.

Which is probably the reason it's not available as an in game option, yet. What is your average fps?
played it last nite, was lost and confused, kept on getting taken out by infiltrators. I'll be giving it another go, runs smooth on my rig.
haha. I went 70-11 last night playing as an infiltrator. I almost felt bad sniping people as they land in their drop pods. I can imagine them watching the tutorial screen getting all pumped up only to instantly die when they finally get in the game.
Even though I plan to support the developer if I end up enjoying it, I hate this argument for anything. What if you spent all your money on the device, so you can't afford or just don't want to buy anything else, since you know, you just dropped $1,000+ on a PC? It's like people saying.. "you have an expensive smartphone, you can definitely afford some apps for it!"

I played last night and was totally lost for the first hour or so. I only saw a few enemies for the whole hour so I logged out. I watched a few videos and logged back in and started to figure out how to get into the action; once I was there it was fun.
A hundred or so of my team got stuck inside a facility for a good 10 minutes when we got inside and the barriers didn't switch to ours. How do you take down the barriers? It's annoying to see the other team run out to take a few shots and then run back inside out of reach.
This is a little over the top, but frankly i agree.
I will likely give them some money just because for a free to play game, this thing is just amazing. The scope of what they're doing, how much fun i'm having, etc... they really deserve some money IMO, and i would not feel bad in the slightest for tossing some their way for all the fun i'm having.
This is something I'd really like to know. What's the deal with all the walls you can't walk through? What controls these? Sometimes there's a whole base that's walled up, sometimes it's just a room and the whole team is camping on the outside of it... which gets boring quickly. It'd be nice to know what i have to do to take down the shields so these fuckers can't be pussies.
Check out RivalXfactor on youtube. He posted a big bunch of tutorial videos that have the stamp of approval from SOE. There is an entire video on capture points, shields, and generators that should answer your questions about how to destroy the shields. I think they might even be accessed from the game or launcher..not sure havent played yet.

Is everyone playing on the absolute max FOV? Isn't it weird that it only goes up to 77 or something?
It's vertical FOV, whereas most people are used to horizontal FOV numbers. So I believe 60 Vertical FOV is somewhere around 85-90 Horizontal FOV.
