Picked up G80's

AFAIK, ewiz doesn't list oos items and there's no mention of preorder. Nonetheless, I'd rather buy B&M from Fry's as they have the EVGA for only a touch more.

What are the chances of this card coming down a $100 in the first month? But by then, my X19 would be worth $200, haha.

I find the story of AF implementations quite ironic, to be honest. Nvidia had great AF with NV2x/3x, then went backwards with NV40 and now finally have good AF implementation again.

And everyone is going: "Oh man, finally got AF that's... well... better then we used to have 3 years ago, score!!!"

Right, but Nvidia's older AF algorithm (up to the GeForce FX series) was the same as ATI's current X1xxx series' HQ AF algorithm is now (although Nvidia only supported up to 8x AF back then).

Now, this new AF algorithm is something I've never seen before!!! I thought that the algorithm had such limitations that it had to either be like Nvidia's newer and "cheaper" one, or ATI's high-quality one, but now it can be perfect! Hmm.. I wonder what the performance hit is on this new kind of perfect AF.....

Yeah.... I think that ewiz also offers overnight shipping as an option, so that probably defeats any advantage that you would have on Ebay.

Oh well, I don't need the money that bad. I should have picked up the 5 GTS's they had left and Ebay'd em.

Maybe it'll go down by $50 in 1 month, but I doubt that it'll go down any further until the R600 is released.

Roger that!.. Next time, you gotta remember that and $$$profit$$$!!!

It's actually doing service to those rich brats all over America (and other countries if you're willing to sell globally). :p

The 4 oblivion screenshots I posted earlier are of this "perfect" 16xAF. The peformance hit is around 20% if I remember correctly.

Was there a noticable increase in image quality going from 8xAF to 16xAF?

Yes, next time mwahahahahah. I had never been to Fry's before I picked up that card on Friday, boy it sure it PACKED with computer stuff.

I can take some comparison shots for you if you'd like.

or are we? lol

Oh yeah, this new 16X AF is definitely much better than what a 7900GTX could do if it had 32X AF using that crappy "Performance" AF algorithm.

Yeah, could you do that? It'd be a huge help for me... at the very least, it'll help determine when (not if) I pull the trigger and upgrade from my 7800gtx.

This is with 16xAF forced on in the control panel.

can someone PLEASE explain how this picture shows image quality? i dont understand what these pictures are showing exactly.

as i understand it, the more circular the color rings, the better. the flowering is bad (this is a quick and easy way to see it, but the results are in the textures of the game.) the color gradients represent textures and how they shift from one to the next is what matters

i think....

i understand that the more circular the picture the better but i dont understand why its better. id really like to understand the technical explanation.

Look at it this way:

You're standing in a tunnel. The black spot in the middle is the end of the tunnel.

What you see is the inside of the tunnel.

The black and white patches are the "textures".

The colors shows the filtering quality of the textures in the distance. The red color is like 2x AF, or slightly reduced LOD but with texture anti-aliasing which is anisostropic filtering compared to just increasing the Level of Detail itself. The farther the textures are away from you (near the end of the tunnel) are more blurry but AF tries to compensate for that while making it sharper with antialiased textures.

The reason why there are no color filters on the black and white patches far away from the center is because they are near to you (right above you or below you in the tunnel, or to the right or left of you), and the Level of Detail (L.O.D.) is already at the maximum.

basically the more circular the more faithful the image is to what ideally the image was intended to look like?

In other words, it shows how distorted the textures will appear when they are far away from you?

Yes, how blurry the textures will appear in the distance. (or less blurry, in this case)

Yes, but well, let's put it this way:

all of the angles inside of the tunnel are properly filtered at the same distance that it was intended to be at. Now, it's true 16X AF at all angles, at last!

thanks you seem to have a firm understanding of this. do you have any good articles that would further help me understand this more thoroughly

Alright I see what you mean now. Thanks for the explanation.

Mike 686 you lucky dog, I bet it set you back a pretty penny though :( Now that this comes out maybeI can jump up to a 7950 on the cheap, G80 probably doesn't even fit in my case :)

I can't get a GTX, as it's gonna block one of the cooling tubes in my case :p.

The GTS will be quite nice, however, probably doing 2x as well as my 7800GT currently does (11fps in Oblivion 1280 x 1024 everything maxxed, HDR instaead of AA, 16x forced AS in control panel).

OMG ONE DAY. Well not really. I need to wait for a waterblock for it :p

Mike did you see the link for the beta drivers I posted for you? Guru 3D pulled all the asus crap out of them and it makes a difference. Also do not use the EVGA utility as it requires net framework.

I hope nvidia writes the next drivers for this card.

I wouldn't be surprised if the recently-released WHQL 93.71 drivers support the G80 series. The release notes say that it supports the "next generation" GPU's, so I suppose it's the 8800 stuff.

Besides, Nvidia recently released it a few days ago. Nvidia usually releases a newer WHQL version once every two months or so, which would be a long time after the 8800GTX is officially released.

Downloaded them, but haven't got a chance to try them yet. I will install them within the next half hour or so.

What kind of improvements did you see from them?

I've tried those, they don't recognize the card.

Oblivion looks a lot cleaner for me.

It's very simple: run 3DMark06 and above the total score will be PS2.0, PS3.0/HDR results.

10851
This is what I see sm2.0 score 4796
HDR\sm3.0 score 4900
cpu score 2724

Have the physical demensions of the card been posted yet? Obviously length is the critical measurment.

Set your system date to 11/10/06 (in bios and windows) and see if there is any difference.
It would be sneaky, but hey, if I thought of it, maybe they did, too.

Well that shot did it... I need to get an 8800GTX by Christmas at the absolute latest. Thanks.

I'm assuming the cobblestone pattern so cleanly rendering into the distance is what 16x AF is buying us?
