I be careful of those specs and will have to wait until this week to find out the proof behind the pudding.

One thing that amazes me is not once has anyone who got am early 8800 has commented on how great the image quality is over the card they replaced. That scares me most.

That's my concern regarding Oblivion, but I think (alert: opinion) that with DX10 there will be some happier faces, if there aren't any already.

i haven't seen the video yet. I am trying to but I cannot open it in mediaplayer. What do I need to view?
Fraps

It's got it's own codec. Nifty program.

You shut up! :(

Yes they have. In example, shimmering is reported to be gone for good.

I haven't mentioned it as I feel the card is a DX10 card and MS shader 4.0 is yet to be utilized so until I can run it with vista and anything that uses 4.0 I can not comment other then it looks as good as the x1900xtx crossfire setup I had at one point.

I respect the inq for getting out news so quickly, but in their brit humor sometimes mix crap up. Even without HQ AS, my X19 doesn't shimmer. The problem relates more to the optimizations they used for AS. Even with them turned off, it's still there...tho much kinder to the eyes. With as much slack they've taken for the ATI > IQ, I truly hope something has been done to fix this.

Time to run to Fry's and see if they got the goods...

I read it from xtresystems forum or from nvnews's forum, don't remember which...

At least one case was 3dmark, where someone had earlier noticed shimmering with nvidia-card, but didn't anymore.

Yes. What type of firearms do you possess?

LOL! Guess I'll go ahead and cancel my order from Ewiz to get that EVGA...

Called. How bout a little humor to lighten up the thread, eh?

Jod - "So when can you sell em?"
Fry guy - "Head Tech said a week."
Jod - "What? But the official release date's Nov 8th?"
Fry guy - "Sorry, that's just what I remember reading on that site"
Jod - "Do you mean...Anandtech said a week?"

...

Fry's, we go there for toys...not for infos.

I suggest you pitch your tent about closing time Tuesday evening. Nothing like a fry's Wednesday morning FFA.

False. This has already been discussed here, it's not about filtering. You have to mod the game and / or increase the above mentioned rendring area. It's the way how the engine normally renders distant landscape.

You win non-sequitir of the year award. I wasn't even talking about the LOD textures, I was talking about the jaggies. BTW, stating "false" with a "false" air of authority doesn't make you any less wrong ;)

You think? I was there for C2D opening w/ one other guy and he didn't even know what a C2D was. Guy said I was first to ask about em, so I'm pretty sure I'll be safe. Of course posting on this forum will probably net a couple guys. I can't hold out on that kind of info tho...everyone deserves to know, right? ;)

Could any of you with 8800 check the minimum/median-low FPS in Oblivion? More specificially, outdoor, heavy vegetation area. (Like the 2nd/4th screenshots Mike posted)

1600x1200/Max everything would be nice. I'm asking this because basically that's where Oblivion plays like sh*t. And that's where I'd like to adjust my settings for. With 1950XTX and 1920x1200/Max everything, I'm getting 15~20 FPS minimum. A single 7900 GTO takes me down to 11 FPS. :D\

Thanks in advance.

Hmmm...actually I think WMP will dl codec automatically. It's either that or k-lite codec pack...run g-spot through it to be sure.

I installed the VC-1 beta codec and now it plays fine.

1600x1200, HDR, no AA, all options/sliders maxed, those areas in the screenshots 2 & 4 got me in the low 40's FPS-wise.

the codec comes with fraps if you download it

I already had FRAPS installed and it didn't work. Besides as I said, it's a WMV file, that has nothing to do with FRAPS. The native FRAPS videos are AVI's which they obviously took and re-encoded into a WMV VC-1 file.

WMP11 fixed everything :D

Now in relation to 8800GTX... why is it that with 16xsAA Oblivion still looks so jaggedy on an 8800GTX?

Thank you. So the FPS never goes below 40 @1600x1200/Max everything? What is the lowest FPS you can possibly push the card to? (Suppose you're participating in a competition where you fight for the lowest FPS :p)

COD2 @1024/16AA shots are incredible. Finally people with smaller monitors can benefit with these powerfull cards! At that setting I wouldn't be able to tell it from 1600x1200. I'd like to thank Mike again for taking times for the forums. What he's done is exceptional so far (not like the Wang dude that was just busy to brag about his 3DMark scores) and I'm sure many reviewers are grinding their teeth. :D

Didn't we already go through this?

Your making that assertion based on a pre-released piece of hardware with un-official drivers. Let's wait for the professional reviews.

Let's stop with the premature judgements, mmkay?

One way to drop the FPS is changing the view from first person to third person, then crank up the distance (mouse wheel), so as many objects can be squeezed into the screen. ^^

How am I making an assertion when the pictures obviously show x16sAA not being implemented properly? Or are you saying that the pictures are making an assertion  How have i even made a judgment?

All I am ASKING (asking != asserting || premature judgment) is why, with x16sAA on, does the game show no improvements and take a big performance hit at the same time?

Where are the COD2 shots at? I haven't seen enough screenshots of that game and I'm very interested to see how it looks on a more recent card.

For the third time, it's pre-released hardware running on un-official drivers. What don't you understand about that? 0_o

These drivers are also old, probably 1 month at least. Don't expect miracles prior to launch.
