PC Alan Wake coming soon?

Agreed. PC Gaming Elite Master Race. ;) Sometimes I feel like certain people would rather play a pile of shit as long as their told it was "built from the ground-up for pc" vs an actual good game that was ported over from a console.
That's fine except when a developer hypes how well the game runs on current gen PC hardware, then sells out to consoles. You shouldn't be surprised by any negative reactions because it was a slap in the face.

When your publisher is Microsoft Game Studios, you really only have one place to go.

That doesn't change the fact they promoted the game on PC hardware and then later claimed it was better suited for consoles only. This backpedaling shit pisses me off.

When people give you money to keep your company alive. You do what they say. If you actually believe remedy said that out of there own free will. You need a reality check.

Sure, but then your integrity as a game developer goes down the shit hole. Not so much for survival, but for saying or doing stupid shit.

Maybe to like a few insignificant consumers who are too wrapped up in the politics of the video game industry. A few uptight, upset consumers holding their wallet back don't make a dent or change anything. Everyone else just buys games they want to play and relax to. Then they move on with their day and never once, not even for a split point percentage of a minute ponder the raveled politics behind closed door business deals between development houses, publishers and the public relations decisions thereafter.

My advice for people is to just remember that gaming is about having fun, and if you find yourself hating other gamers, hating platforms, hating politics, developers, publishers... perhaps its time for a new hobby.

So not liking people/companies being dishonest means finding a new hobby, not everyone is ok with being bull crapped to like you are.

While I agree to a certain extent, when you see what some companies are pulling off these days (*cough* Ubisoft *cough*) it's very hard to ignore the 'politics'.

nice interview with Remedy where they talk about the PC engine, renderer and other technical specs...

PCGH: In year 2006 Intel showcased Alan Wake for their Core 2 Quad multicore CPUs and Remedy mentioned a 30 percent Fps benefit using four instead of two cores in our last mail interview 2008. Did you rework the multithreading or worker job system so that Alan Wake PC is able to utilize even six or eight cores for smoother rendering?

Remedy: The engine occasionally uses more than 4 threads, but the engine does not scale that well beyond four cores. A Quadcore PC features a lot of power, and the engine is pretty efficient! The bottleneck comes from feeding DirectX with data

the more I read the more excited I get for this game...not expecting Game of the Year type of stuff but I think it will be really good

lord in heaven with all the damn whining... game companies don't owe you anything...

a company is in business for 1 reason, to make a product that sells and makes money - not to stroke our idea of what should be

i for one own every gaming console i want to own, and i play games across all of them - stop acting like the world owes you something

if you want to play alan wake 2 years ago, buy a 360 and stfu... play the game, enjoy or hate it and move on to the next title...

i love my pc, but it is not the end all of all gaming forever etc et al - it's a cog in the gaming wheel [ka]

They better have a decent price on this if they want it to sell. I dont see many PC gamers paying for a over year old XBOX game that wasnt even that great. They need to price it at 14.99 at the most.

Interesting. Works well with 3D Vision but hasn't been tested much with SLI or Crossfire. Might have to pick this up.

Alan Wake launches on PC through Steam on February 16th, Remedy Entertainment has announced

On Steam the game costs $30 (for the game plus all the DLC). The Limited Collector's Edition costs $35

Those key PC version enhancements in full:

•Experience Alan Wake's Pacific Northwest in higher resolutions and higher fidelity than ever before.
•Refined and fully configurable mouse and keyboard support (or if you prefer to play with the Microsoft gamepad connected to your PC, you can do that too!) .
•A wide selection of customizable graphics settings and support for 4:3, 16:9 and 16:10 aspect ratios.
•Multithreaded engine that takes advantage of quad core CPUs.
•Additional options our fans have sought after, such as field of view adjustment as well as "hide HUD".
•Works with AMD Eyefinity 3D 3-screen mode.
•Works with NVIDIA NVISION2 Stereoscopic 3D

OK...I just looked on Steam and it's not even listed yet? Where did you see that?

What exactly does the LCE have over the "standard" version?

don't know but the Xbox Limited Collector's Edition came with a bunch of stuff including a linen case designed to resemble a hardcover book, a 144-page book with a story written by Alan Wake and FBI dossiers included, a soundtrack disc, a token for the first DLC pack, and a disc with an Xbox Live theme and avatar

WHO CALLED IT (the price)? *points to self* lol.

I might do this for $30, but I'm still disappointed in the way the game ended up...

I really, really liked the idea of the whole open ended thing, especially the early tech demos with the camera zooming around all over, the level streaming, physics, weather, tornados and shit.

I haven't played the console version but a dumbed down, linear version kinda hurts. The world was looking nice and immersive, driving around at night through winding, desolate mountain roads when all the spookies came crawling out of the woods would have been fun. At least that's kind of what I was imagining it being somewhat like.

Its not a dumbed down console copy. They did it by choice because they could paint a better picture for the story if you watched any of the interviews. And since this game is VERY story driven I understand it completely.

Does anyone know if they are doing a retail too?

looks like they actually put some work into making this a decent PC game and not just a simple console port- FOV, full mouse/KB adjusments, aspect ratios, quad core support etc

Does anyone know if they are doing a retail too?

yes a retail boxed copy will be released shortly after the digital release

Official FAQ post here, regularly updated. Kind of odd that the contents of the collector's edition are still up in the air this close to release. It sounds like the LCE will be available on Steam...I'm not even sure how that would work with the bonuses you described. I guess pdf versions of the book and a digital soundtrack.

I believe Deus Ex: Human Revolution also came with a similar Collector's Edition which was available on Steam and included a 40 page artbook, soundtrack etc...so it will be in pdf etc unless you buy the boxed retail version

lol, oh the priorities! :p

...Unless of course the Xbox version, for some reason, had a horrible fov?

Nope. Was fine and was at 16:9. He probably has a 16:10 monitor. Another reason I <3 my 16:9 monitor. Not having to worry about these problems. And the funny thing is.. People usually widen there view with the FOV on 16:10 monitors. Which is what 16:9 already does.

Do yourself a favor and get it. Story alone is so good that you won't even notice that it's linear. I didn't get it on xbox because they dumped PC version and made it exclusive but I finally broke down and got it on Goozex (a game trading site) and the game ended up being my most memorable experience I had two years ago when I played it. Fucking awesome game for which I will gladly shell out $30 this time around.

Kind of like the commentary during the game. Reminds me of the Band of Brothers Blu-Ray set.

Yeah. The amount of bitching from the PC community has only gotten worse. I love H, but this place is a breeding ground for elitist pricks.

Yeah that was just a natural occurrence, not a link between causation and result. It couldn't be bullshit like the battlefield series having its soul torn out, nor gems such as Dead Space, GTA4, etc. Definitely shouldn't have expected anger on a PC hardware and gaming-centered community being fed half-assed console ports.

Their surprise is surprising, is it not?

They are releasing Alan Wake on the PC long after a great many of the people that were interested in it in the first place, no longer care. That really annoys people.

They have already committed the first sin of console porting, releasing the PC version months after the console version.
Will have to wait for the game to see if they commit a few more sins.

Store page went up yesterday:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/108710/

From reading the Alan Wake forum, it looks like they've made an actual effort to make it more than just a simple PC port so while you should expect the gameplay to be exactly like the 360, you can expect to have actual video configuration options... more than RAGE had/has. heh

The Remedy forums actually have some good stuff.
