looks like they might finally be releasing a PC version of Alan Wake...a post on the Alan Wake Community Forums has a screenshot showing a listing for Alan Wake in Steam's registry, re-sparking speculation that a Windows PC edition of Remedy's console game is planned

this might have been cool news a few years ago when the game was supposedly one of the first to truly use all 4 CPU cores and was a showcase for what a PC can do...now it's totally irrelevant...still might pick it up for a decent price (if it does ever comes out)...anyone excited?

I might be... I just need to see someone else playing the PC version before I decide (if it actually happens).

I'd have been psyched a few years ago. If it truly comes to the PC, I'll wait until it hits bargain bin status, which shouldn't take too long.

It's all a matter of price. I'm in for say.. $5?

They didn't want our money then, surely they don't want it know.

Game is bad regardless of platform.

yup doesn't seem like it was worth all the hype...I hear it wasn't a bad game and had some unique elements such as players using light to fend off foes that thrive in the dark...mostly story driven versus non-stop action...the atmosphere sounds decent...maybe with some PC polish and additional content the game will be worth a look

just hope it doesn't end up like LA Noire PC

Alan Wake wasn't a bad game by any means. The visual style was pretty cool, the story telling and such were also great. Reminded me of Twin Peaks meets the Twilight Zone with a twist of Stephen King.

It was disappointing though, since originally it was supposed to be an open world adventure game, but it released as a linear action game with some adventure elements mixed in. They had everyone expecting something completely different than they delivered. With that said though, it's still a pretty cool game to play through.

I'm definitely looking forward to a PC version. Its worth much more than $5.00 (ya cheap bastards lol)

Remedy can fuck off if im honest. they totaly screwed us pc users by not releasing this game on pc's. i was really looking forward to it. but they screwed up. sold there soul for more £££

I was also pissed that it didn't come to pc but I loved the game on Xbox. I would gladly pay $60 to revisit it on PC but only if the graphics were upgraded and it supported eyefinity.

The xbox version seems to cost around $12. I'm not sure how much more than that they're expecting us PC gamers to pay for the "privilege" of getting a port of a 1.5+ year old game.

It was a decent game, but just not a truly good one. The original version of the game seemed to be along the lines of an old style adventure game, but the final ended up becoming a generic semi-shooter with a good plot.
There are numerous instances where the game really does start to flesh out and become a ton of fun…and then all of a sudden Alan manages to lose all of his weapons and get dumped into the woods at night again.
It’s frustrating because the combat is so hum-drum and you’ll want to wade through it for the sake of seeing what’s next. The acting and story are both pretty solid, the problem is that about 70% of the game is a bad shooter.

The gameplay itself was just ok, passable, but repetitive. But the story was superb and very well voiced.

Agree completely. The story was great... but the gameplay was forgettable. Honestly it would have made a better movie than a game.

Like LA Noire: Awesome potential but falls way short.

IMO.

I was definitely looking forward to getting this, but I believe this came out around the same time as Red Dead Redemption or ME2, I can't remember. So I ended up putting this on my 'to buy' backburner.

There's no way I'd spend more than $20 on a port this old though

Speaking of Red Dead, where the freak is the PC version of that? Also, I'm so looking forward to this, I'll pay up to about $30 for this, seeing how late it is for something as common sense as this. This game was possibly the only reason I got a 360 (then sold it later). The atmosphere and voice-acting is just phenomenal.

looks like Remedy is continuing the story with 'Alan Wake: American Nightmare'...a stand-alone "spin-off experience" that anyone can pick up and play, even if they’ve never played the original Alan Wake...Xbox exclusive coming out in Q1 2012...hopefully the PC version will include all the DLC and expansions

guess the diapponting sales havn't prevented Remedy from expanding the Alan Wake universe...I think I remember reading that it was always planned as a trilogy

for a proper red dead port + included dlc, i'd pay $100. that game was fucking fantastic.

alan wake was a great game imo, when you put aside the original expectations. I had a good time throughout my playthrough.

Rockstar has pretty much said they never plan on making a PC -Red Dead based upon their interviews right around when LA Noire came out. It's too bad as the better graphics and view distance would work wonders in that game.

SHUT THE FUCK UP OR YOU'LL BE WHACKED! CONSOLE PIRACY IS NOT AN ISSUE!!! IT DOESN'T EVEN EXIST REMEMBER?!?! ONLY US PC GAMERS ARE RUINING THE INDUSTRY!!! DID YOU NOT GET THE MEMO?!?!

/sarcasm :D

Anyways...back on topic...I thought Alan Wake was a pretty damn good game...excellent atmosphere to say the least and it has been one of the few horror games to actually creep me out on a few occasions. Add to that it actually got kinda challenging...which for a second actually made my brain go "holy crap"...which before then it hadn't done in a while due to the lame ass casual games that were all the rage...

So I say bring it on! I'll definitely buy it, especially if it has actual graphic changes like ambiant occulsion, higher resolution textures, etc.

RDR is so overated.. The story is fun. But 80% of the game is traveling on dumb paths from point A to point B With nothing in between them but some random broken wagon. Got boring fast.. I never finished it like I finished GTA.

As for Alan Wake. Very underrated game. Wish my 360 wasn't broke so I could have finished the DLC. Will be picking it up on PC. Was one of my favorite games on 360.

Enjoyed the game on the Xbox, I always wanted more of the story.

Never bought the original, just rented it.

You have this so backwards it's painful to even look at.

Alan Wake was one of the very worst games of 2010 - it had nothing going for it.

- repetitive, bland gameplay that does not evolve, develop or improve
- terrible combat system with an extremely picky and unreliable "dodge" mechanic, and provides challenge by forcing you into tiny boxes with invisible walls so dodging enemies becomes harder.
- game strips you of all your weapons and items at the end of every "chapter", giving no sense of progression or achievement, and no incentive to save ammo
- Alan Wake has the fitness level of a morbidly obese 50-year-old, and when you really need him to run (like during a chase from the police), he insists on doubling over with an attack of emphysema every three steps. Yes, I know he is a writer and not a marathon runner, but in the instances when adrenaline should be making him run faster and for longer than normal, his fitness level drops to zero and well below what he can do when strolling around looking for switches and keys when not in danger.
- haphazard story-telling with tedious narrative repetition and a weak resolution
- the only thing "psychological" about this "psychological action thriller" is having Wake tell you over and over again how he is going crazy, or another character saying Wake is crazy
- extreme levels of Twin Peaks and Stephen King wank, with constant King references/name drops, and cinematic sweeping shots of pine trees over and over again
- zero replay value

I wasn't very fond of Alan Wake, it was alright I guess, I didn't play it I watched a friend play it through and I think the only thing that kept us going was that he had played it before so was getting through the levels with no deaths, and it looked cool on the projector screen.

RDR I played through myself and enjoyed, there's a lot of travelling which does get a bit tedious, but there's also a fair bit to do if you accept the challenges, do the quests and hunt for all the gubbins in the game as you're playing, new costumes, weapons and that sort of thing.

Given a choice I'd rather see RDR come to the PC with high def graphics to give us some really awesome vistas, but we already know that's not happening. I'm not convinced Alan Wake would be well recieved at this point, part of the appeal of the game was the technology it sported during its development being impressive and that side of the game is thoroughly worthless now.

It is my understanding, from reading people discuss Alan Wake, than the game is similar to Batman Arkham Asylum in the sens that you either get into to atmosphere and like it or you hate the game.

Alan Wake was the most boring game I have ever attempted to play. 2 hrs in and I'd rather watch grass grow.

LOL....I had the exact same experience with Metro 2033. A lot of people loved it but it was just boring to me...

I tried the free Brink weekend a couple weeks ago and could (should) have kicked my own ass for wasting that time.

I pretty much feel the same way. Anyone remember that Alan Wake was originally used to showcase the first quad-core at Intel's Developer Conference in 2006? Remedy made a huge deal about how Alan Wake would use four cores and DirectX 10. The irony is palpable as the Xbox features neither a quad-core processor nor DirectX 10.

to be honest though, Microsoft has a LOT to do with that. They offered Remedy money in exchange for Xbox exclusivity. They certainly didn't have to take the offer, but if they were short of capital I can see how it would be a difficult deal to pass on.

either way, I was really pissed when they announced that it would only come to the xbox. The whole reason why I got my Q6600 and my 8800GT setup in the first place was for Alan Wake. Looking back however, I really don't have any regrets. Almost 5 years later, a healthy overclock and a GPU upgrade and the machine can still run just about anything I throw at it. However, had it not been for Alan Wake, I probably would of saved my money and kept my AMD Athlon 64 machine for another year or two.

I’d say that no amount of additional tweaks to the graphics or gameplay will really make much of a difference in what people think of it.
You’ll either like the story enough to put up with the pretty monotonous gameplay, or you won’t. That’s pretty much it.
I’ll admit to have enjoyed parts of it, and I’ve certainly played a lot worse games, however something tells me they’ll end up overcharging for it.
I paid $24.99 for the 360 version only 2 months after it came out and I was pretty happy with that amount of money. However, at this point you can probably buy it for $10.
No matter what they do with the graphics, I don’t think it’ll be worth more than $10-15 for a so-so game from two years ago. It’s probably worth noting that a code for the first “episode” came free with the 360 version anyway, so it’s not like that’s a selling point either.

That's great, I cursed Remedy for not releasing this on PC like was originally planned & rented it for 360 soon after release & got bored fast.
Recently I bought a used copy for cheap, but just picked up both DLC's less than a week ago...
I'd much rather play on PC with mouse/kb and I bet this would be dirt cheap on steam in no time, though I wish devs would just announce a game will be coming to PC even if its a year in advance.

If the game is less then $30(20 preferred) ill consider buying it. Late as usual Microsoft.
