PC Alan Wake coming soon?

I just pre-ordered American Nightmare. I need to play the other DLC as well, but still, not bad for being 25% off.

I started playing this last night and I'm really liking it so far...the graphics look fantastic as well

but I'm wondering about the anti-aliasing used...in the game settings you can choose FXAA and 'normal' Anti-Aliasing...why are they 2 separate options for?...I thought FXAA was a form of AA...so do I turn off 'normal' Anti-aliasing and enable FXAA in the game or leave both enabled?...in other games that use FXAA (DE: Human Revolution) it only gives you 1 AA setting and lets you select between FXAA, MSAA and MLAA

I think you've already decided how you feel about this game. It's not going to change much as you progress so it sounds like something you should pass along.

i think you're right, now that i'm reading my post again.. i guess i said that because i didn't want it to suck, like geez, another one to the list wtf? i've read that some people compare it to the "Condemned: Criminal Origins" but there's nothing to it, i liked Condemned, i also liked "Amnesia The Dark Descent" and i'm a Silent Hill series fan (mostly SH1 & SH2). this one just feels cheap and boring, sorry. also for someone who growed up reading Lovecraft and Poe books i guess i'm a "tough crowd" for the subject. i'll see if i play it to the end, if i don't post here anymore is because i didn't like it. :)

Edit: Sorry wrong thread, Alan wake is awesome.

Tough crowd is right, never really met anyone that outright didn't like this game. The story-telling I thought was top-notch, very Max Payne 1/2'ish (which I enjoyed thoroughly). The gameplay was excellent as well, though obviously some of it got a little bit repetitive with constantly killing the "Taken". Calling it cheap and boring is a huge negative, reserved for games like Call of Duty and other shitty knock-off games that are made in someone's basement.

It definitely doesn't suck. It's a high quality product. It just may not be your thing so to speak. That's okay. :)

I have to lightly disagree with you as far as the gameplay in this being "excellent." There's a few refinements that I wouldn't have minded. The gunplay and aiming leaves something to be desired. Actually it leaves a hell of a lot to be desired IMO.

The sprinting...I get the idea that Wake is an author and not an athlete but give me a break. I've never seen anyone so fragile in a videogame is Alan Wake is. It's laughable.

It can get boring if someone comes into this thinking "Max Payne in a horror setting." Which btw would be a wild ass game but I digress. ;)

Where AW excels the most is story, narrative, and just sucking a person in if they're willing to go along for the ride and be patient. But patience is the key especially when some of the gameplay elements work against the player.

Well idk Q man, I thought it was excellent based upon how the shooting mechanics worked, as well as all the excellent set pieces. The running is a big pet peeve of most people that talk about this game, but not just this game, a lot of other games. The way the pacing works in this game, if you were allowed to run any more than they let you, the game would be ridiculously easy. I thought it fit well. It's very difficult to find a game that is as polished as this one in terms of the overall package. I shudder to think of where we're going next. It always seems like there's a "the last game that kicked ass" memory as a new game comes out and disappoints.

Overall, "it works." I just wouldn't have minded a little refinement on the gunplay elements especially and maybe a little less 90 year old asthma attack action on the physicality side of things.

I understand the thing isn't supposed to be "cousin of Max Payne rolls into Silent Hill and kicks ass." ;)

That last sentence made me envision max payne in his long leather coat diving into the streets of Silent Hill in slow motion emptying two uzi's into monsters.

I can hear the enemies screaming "IMBA!".

I want that game or someone to mod Max Payne 3 and give it to me. I'd pay full price for it if done right.

I think different genres and universes should be kept separated, though I suppose if it's a mod of Max Payne, that's fine. Something to dick around in.
