You're acting like you just crawled out from under a rock. Its 2021, this is how games launch now. What is at all surprising?
The bigotry of low expectations.
Are you a developer with a massive background on worldwide game infrastructure and everything that goes into running something like this?
Coupled with this kindergarten level gem.

You were right. I wish I wasn't able to start it.

This is Anthem without flying only worse in every way imaginable. The graphics is awful. Coupled with forced motion blur, cromatic aberration and depth of field.
The game mechanics are a joke. Every area has invisible walls, that you simply bounce off of. And you cannot progress unless you kill every enemy in each area, then magically the way opens. The animatons seem to be placeholders from UE.
The AI, what AI? Of course bullet sponge enemies. Every cutscene has so much camera shake that I had no choice but to skip them, not that I missed much, as the story is simply lifted from ME:A. Outrider = Pathfinder. Ark ship last hope of humanity reaches alien planet, corporate asshole screws everyone, then you are stuck on evil planet, it couldn't be more clichéd if it wanted to be.

The character creator is joke. You can choose from half a dozen preset heads and hairs, that's about it. Of course female faces are all fugly, like they were meant to be ugly. Every NPC's skin looks brown, not because of their etnicity, but simply because the game seems to be using a 3 color palette: Green. Brown and Blue.

Geez, I've seen bad games before but this is something else. I swear if this game gets popular I'll loose all hope.

Keeping my fingers crossed it gets game of the year 2021 and you disappear completely because I am so sick and fucking tired of your bitching, and moaning, and whining and complaining in every single game thread on this site. You are easily the most miserable person here.
Why do you even play games?

exactly...Day 1 always has some teething issues...the demo has no end date so if you're having issues just wait a bit...

When was the last time you have seen a game make any changes from demo/beta to release? People said the same thing about Anthem, and look how that turned out. These public demos for multiplayer games are simply to stress test the network. The game you see is 98% what it will be when it launches. Even the developer said that this is the first 3 hours of the full game.

I was referring to people having issues downloading the demo...

‘Outriders’ Demo Review: The Good And The Bad

I picked Pyromancer for my first class on PC, and it’s the only one I’ve used so far...it focuses on, what else, fire damage, but also healing through killing things that are on fire, which seems to work pretty well...if I had to compare Outriders’ third person combat to anything, you’re probably out of cover more often than The Division or Gears of War, and maybe it’s more like Mass Effect, as you run around and use both guns and your powers to take on enemies

This aspect is…fun. Even though I prefer FPS to third person, the gunplay feels good on PC, as do the abilities, and even in the demo, you start to get a real sense of loot and potential builds...I already found a submachine gun that freezes enemies solid, and I got a legendary sniper rifle from a boss chest that inflicts weakness in an AOE and one shots most enemies with its high power

I can’t say I’m hooked by the story. Or writing. Or voice acting. There’s some dark humor here that doesn’t really work, and I feel like it can veer into too-cringey “attitude” style dialogue that I don’t love. It’s early, but I can’t say I’m connecting with any of the characters, including my own, nor the world and its lore.

I’m torn. I need to play with friends, with more classes, see more of the story, see new areas beyond this brown rocky hellscape before I make a full judgement, obviously. But if this demo is meant to make a strong first impression, I’ve come away waffling a bit. Combat is fun and the loot seems potentially solid, but everything comes across as a bit bland, and I hope that will change as time goes on...

Enjoying it as a Devastator so far. The abilities are quite fun and you really start to get a sense of potential builds as you unlock more of the skill tree.

After 4 hours with the uh, tank / earthy build, Paul nails it.

I had higher hopes for it to "hook" me, but the story is just kind of "meh", and I love the lore of Destiny 2, and The Division1/2 and even a lot of the stories in BL1/2/3 so I was pretty hopeful as they talked up the rich lore of Enoch. It's also really, really brown. I just kept thinking about the streets of DC and NYC, or the colorful locals like Nessus, and the amazing art in those games. Hopefully the art will step up once we get out of the valley!

I'll definitely play it more, but as of now, I have my doubts about it supplanting either D2 or TD2 in my weekly gaming sessions.

Agreed, I'm enjoying the gameplay but the acting and script is really bad. I only got to the first mission after choosing your class so I'll need to put more time in to judge if this has what it takes for the long haul but the core gameplay is smooth and feels good. It seems there are a lot of options for character builds which is a good sign. If they can keep the world and loot varied and interesting they'll have a winner but it'll need to be closer to Diablo in the loot department than Destiny or, god forbid, Anthem in that regard.

I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would. The movement felt weird at first, like your character is skating, but that fades in actual combat. Powers are actually useful and have a reasonable cooldown at the start. Gunplay feels good. Really not much I can complain about. This definitely feels like The Division in the way it plays. For what it's worth I'm also enjoying the story so far. Voice acting is spotty; some of it is pretty good, most of it is bad. I hope the missions get longer the further you get into the game. Loot is actually good, too, as you're always getting upgrades. I hope this doesn't get nerfed on release.

Online seems either broken right now or the simple fact that not many people are playing it yet. I could not find a random team even with cross play enabled. I managed to get into one, but I was quickly kicked for some reason despite no signs of lag. People are reporting connection issues, though. I'll see if more people are on tomorrow and into the weekend because the team dynamic looks like it will be good.

I don't think people like it because it's Free I think if the price was cheaper more people would jump on board hopefully there is enough people for matchmaking at launch.

It sounds like you can replay missions. Is this the main way to farm loot? I absolutely hated that aspect of The Division 2.

Like I said above, loot comes in at a good pace just playing the side and main missions. I have not felt the need to go back and replay missions, yet. Resources also come in at a good pace so you can buy that rare piece of equipment when you revisit Rift Town. I highly recommend doing the first side mission you unlock, as it brings a new vendor into town that carries nothing but uncommon and rare weapons. I bought a sniper rifle from her that basically make me invincible, as it adds shields every time I headshot an enemy. I paired it with a rare shotgun I also bought from her that slows enemies I shoot with it in case I start to get swarmed.

A bit underwhelmed but I would not say it's horrible. Plus it's a demo so room for improvement in some areas I suppose. The one issue I have is what appears to be lag, but I'm playing a solo game. The FPS actually is running smooth on my modest rig. Playing as the Trixter, using a shot gun...point blank shot, there is a slight delay in which the hit animation happens. Like playing online with bad ping.

Anyone else notice this? It's weird because like I said, pretty smooth gameplay, just the shooting/damage animation is off a milli second.

Can't say I noticed this playing last night. All my hits were near instantaneous more like a hitscan. The servers might be getting hit harder today than they were last night, though.

I’ve played the demo only for about 45 minutes but first impressions are not good. This seems very generic so far.

Underwhelmed. I was hoping it would scratch itch for a new Division, but just don't feel it. I kept having issues locking onto cover. I also had issues with enemies heads being exposed but shots bouncing off invisible walls. I had lots of slowdown, but that is probably my PC since I haven't bothered to upgrade since I haven't found a game to justify it yet. I also found movement a bit odd though I didn't dig into the settings to see if I could tweak it.

Will wait till release to see how it does

Final thoughts:

The loch ness monster, chupacabra, bigfoot, the yeti, aliens, what is the common characterstic they all share? That most people assume they do not exist.

With this game I crossed off something from the list of things I didn't believe in. A video game so bad that deserves the 1/10 rating. Not because it is broken, or does not work as intended. Oh, it works exactly as intended. It earns this rating plain and fair purely on merit. I don't even need to take the initial registration and server issues into account.

What the heck is going on at Square Enix? First they put out Avengers, which I admittedly did not play, but it was a giant flop and widely criticized by both sides of the aisle who rarely agree these days. I mean journalists and apolitical gamers.

And now they put out this atrocity with a straight face. While experiencing the demo I laughed out loud multiple times, not because it was funny, but because my brain could not process what I saw any other way. The proposed release date of the game is very apt, this is a joke.

First thing we are subjected to by it is that you need to register a "square enix" account to even start the game, which was a half hour process until I finally managed to do it, because the registration either gave errors or it wouldn't send the confirmation email. But we are still not in the juicy bits, this too can be disregarded and the game would still be a 1 / 10.

After the completely soulless intro cinematic, which seems more like a trailer for a game than an actual intro for a story driven game, what this is supposed to be. We find ourselves in the character creator. An atrocious one. Your options are limited to selecting from half dozen preset faces, hairstyles and a few skin colors, all of which seem as close to actual human skin colors as any shade of blue would be. And you can forget the female faces, they are all extremely ugly. Like they are deliberately made ugly, I have no other explanation.

But that is not the only thing that is ugly, the graphics is a joke, and even at that it's inconsistent. Some of the models are let's be generous average, while others are a complete farce. Like the so called trucks in the intro. They are undetailed blobs, I have not seen the like since the early 2000s. I mean when the camera is in certain angles and it happens to be many times during the opening, you can see that they have no undercarriage, the bottom is just flat, and the axles that are themselves made of about 3 shapes, float bellow it, there is no suspension or drive train to speak of. These models would not be fit as lo-res placeholders you look at from five hundred meters, yet here they are used as centrepieces in close up cinematics.

The shading and the lighting is eerily similar to the Halo Infinite that got delayed because people were so disappointed how ugly it was. Well this looks even worse, much worse. Even if you selected a light skin for your character, it and the NPCs just look brown in-game, the color of diarrhea to be exact. The game seems to be working on a 3 color palette: diarrhea brown, led blue, and goose shit green.

Of course everyone's favorites are also present: chromatic aberration, depth of field, and motion blur, none of which can be disabled.

Also of note, that during each cutscene there is such strong camera shake that I had to skip them because I didn't want to go nauseous. And no, these are not action scenes, this is going on even on simple calm NPC conversations, and even when you select the reply in the conversation system. The completely redundant conversation system where each time there is only one choice to continue, the rest is just for additional meaningless dialogue. Why even include the selection?

The story? I can explain in 2 inches of text: Ripoff of ME:A. Just how dull and unimaginative you have to be to copy that of all things? There is no beating around the bush. Outriders are literally the same concept as Pathfinders were in ME:A. They even stole the idea that the real pathfinders die and you are just the replacement. And of course you fly an ark ship to a new planet, when I said it is a ripoff of Andromeda, I was not exaggerating.

The story is basically that you are stuck on evil planet because corporate asshole decides to land on it, for no reason. Motivations? Who needs that, he is just evil because he is the corporate guy. They even gave him a cloak like he is some super villain, it does not get more pathetic and clichéd than this.

The game mechanics? The only thing that is not terrible is the shooting, but it is negated completely by the bullet sponge enemies. If you can have negative fun then it is with this game. It is of course a looter shooter somewhere between Anthem and the Division without flying, and locked into Battlefield 1 / 5 like maps. I mean the single player maps of those games, linear, walled around with invisible force fields. Where the only way to progress is to kill every enemy within each section as the way forward only opens after that thanks to an unending supply of deus ex machina.

Just for fun let's give it some scores:

Graphics/Realization: 1/10
Story/Atmoshpere: 1/10
Gameplay/Controls: 3/10

Overall impression: 1/10

Since I've been reviewing games I have rated 34 games as 8 out of 10 or higher. And an additional 29 games as 7 out of 10. The number of games I've rated 5/10 or worse is 15 to date, including this one. So the joke is on you and everyone else who thinks I'm going around hating everything.

I already had a Squeenix account, so logging in was not an issue. I didn't even have to do anything when I started the game since it's linked to my Steam account.

I like it a lot. The demo got a preorder out of me. Can't wait to continue playing on release day.

I played the demo for a couple hours. It didn't grab me. The fights were already getting repetitive by the time we got to the electricity boss which was actually a decent fight.

There were too many cutscenes for a demo, I skipped most of them as I just wanted to get a feel for the world and gameplay and not watch a bunch of cinematics for a game I wasn't even sure I would buy. Also why would they add a mining mechanic to a game like this. If I wanted to mine I would play Valheim or Minecraft not a Division type game.

I don't really see where this game does anything different than the games that have come before it and I don't see a reason to play it unless you are hungry for another looter shooter.

Played the demo...anybody else have in-engine cut scenes drop and lock to 30 FPS? It really annoyed me, 100+ fps all other times annnnnd cutscene or conversation and I'm locked at 30 all of a sudden. No thanks. Getting way too much of an Anthem vibe from them without the joy of flying. Fiddling with Devastator right now but so far nothing about this game makes me want to spend actual money. I'll wait a few patch/quality of life cycles and then check it out again.

The 30 FPS lock on conversations and cutscenes will be removed in the retail version. This was one of the first things the developer addressed on the Steam forums.

They really should hire some better writers, probably going to pre order based off my experience so far.

I feel like I'm the only one enjoying the story...
I honestly got pumped with the opening cutscenes. I thought they were on par with hollywood C/B- scifi action films as far as story telling. I'm very much enjoying the demo and have preordered the game.
