Ordered my 7970 from Newegg!

Well do I wait for amazon with prime shipping, buy now from newegg, or wait for those Atomic Sapphire cards? In any event these things are probably going to end up water cooled so no black edition for me.

P.S. Newegg Business shows 20+ in stock for all the cards other than XFX Black

The XFX has some kind of Ghost Thermal technology, based on what I saw from zooming on the box. No idea what that is, probably marketing gibberish :)

Couldn't resist.

Same boat. Waiting for amazon, especially if I need to send a card back, it's just easier through amazon. Will prolly end up with xfx reference through amazon - small premium for transferable lifetime warranty isnt bad.

These cards will be sold out very very shortly. People are not playing games and buying 2 and 3 as evident here on HardOCP. I'm sure they will get more stock in but any of you that are waiting around trying to decide on what to do are going to get left out in the cold and have to wait at the very least an additional 5 days to a week if not longer. But, who really knows for sure I guess.

Wow, close to/at MSRP. Damn, so tempting, but I want to see what Nvidia counters with and I want to see the Sapphire overclocked ones.

CES starts tomorrow. I'm hoping we hear something about Kepler coming out sooner rather than later. Otherwise, I may have a pair of 7970's in my future.

Likewise. If Nvidia doesn't announce anything or they do announce a comparable/superior alternative to 7970 but which won't come out until end of the year or something, I may also go with a 7970 in the near future as well.

I just don't want a noisy stock-cooler version.

This is sort of my hang up as well. Very tempted, but would prefer something other than the reference cooler. What to do, what to do..........

Someone want to take a stab at passively cooling this 28nm beast? 3 slot aluminum block at 1.25 times card's height. Perhaps add a low RPM thin fan.

Exactly, Do I pull the trigger right now for a card or possibly wait till the morning when more vendors have additional cards and potetntially miss out of one all together?

I've almost decided on waiting for a "good" card... I don't want to miss out but on the same token I don't want to get stuck with a card I don't want.

I'm sure it will probably be a month or 2 down the road, MSI usually uses their own boards for the Lightning Edition which requires a lot more testing. As soon as I get wind of them, my 6970's are going bye bye. Until then, i'm going to sit back and see how this reference card launch goes. Hopefully there are no engineering gremlins that reveal themselves now that the general public has them. Plus, I want to see where AMD takes the drivers here in the next few months.

screw it.... I pulled the trigger on the Gigabyte card. Boycotting XFX due to a pontential crappy RMA return card like happend to one of my 5870's back in the day

Meh, ordering from major retailers usually isn't too bad to return assuming you don't hold on to it. At least stops you from possibly missing out on all stock.

And a hefty 15% restock fee ;).

7970s in stock!

Woot! Hands shaking as I entered gift cards. First time I've bought a top of the line card in yearrrrs :)

Hands trembles as I thought my gift card wouldn't work, but they did! Woot!

Thank you OP. I ordered two sapphire HD 7970s. I'll just stick with Sapphire for now. Could have gotten XFX but I choose you Sapphire!

It is soooo tempting... Just paid my account off with newegg too..... But will wait and see what Nvidia is going to come up with and if I actually need a 7970 vs a 7950 1.5 gig for my 30" monitor.... I really don't see myself playing too many high end games on this monitor as much as I used to since I got into SWTOR..... :D

I had a plan going in and the brands I wanted in order. Started checking about 7pm just in case and looks like I was just a bit late which I did not expect. I could not get my first choice but fired off number two and ordered a Sapphire. I know they have a shorter warranty but my 5870 vapor-x has been flawless and realistically two years is probably enough. Soooooo excited like many of you! Standard shipping for me, I just loath paying extra for faster shipping.

Thank God I got 2 ASUS 7970 right when it they were available on NewEgg! :D now for the waiting game till Tuesday!

Cancelled my order witih Provantage

I just ordered 2 Sapphire cards. Water cooling would most likely kill the XFX warranty perk so why spend the extra $10? Now it is time to see if FatWallet and ShopRunner can play nice with each other.

Hell with it, I bit. Purchased 2 Sapphire cards for gaming bliss at 2560x1600. I have a feeling the prices will skyrocket once the initial cards sell out and stay there like the 5850/5870.

Reference cooler is good enough I guess. And I wear noise cancelling headphones so it shouldn't bother me too much.

Purchased a Sapphire 7970. Wish I could've gotten the XFX Black Edition, but oh well. In the future I'll have to buy an aftermarket cooler. I'm sure they'll be plenty of those that fit reference designs.

Talk about brand loyalty.. the ASUS reference model is $30~$40 more than the competition. Must be one helluva sticker on that sucker.. it's sold out! :p

Id say they just had less of them :p

I mean im a Asus fan, but 40 extra bucks, no way no how.

I picked up one Sapphire card to resell it if the prices get jacked way up.
