Nvidia, AMD, will significantly increase GPU value from next month

that worked out so well for EVGA
It did work out well for them their founder is retired and sipping martini's on a beach somewhere.

I do almost feel bad for consumer only OEMs, they are mostly fucked. The OEMs that also have business units will either do like MIcron and end consumer sales, or just keep it all to 1-2 SKUs and go slow trickle mode and see how things shake out in a few years. I would assume next gen 60 class and 90 class cards are probably not happening. I could see AMD AND Nvidia both deciding to do 1 80 and 1 70 class SKU. Anything lower they aren't parting with gddr for... and there is no way anyone is making a consumer class GPU with 32GB or more of vram on it. Not unless they believe they can set the MSRP at $3500-4000.

That's already where most games are at (16 not 8 but even then)

True I was thinking more about vram. Developers are going to want to fit into 8gb of vram if they can. There is a new GPU drought coming I'm sure.
On system ram though ya 16gb on a Linux box is golden. I'm not sure if SteamOS defaults to zram on or not... but with zram on Linux 16gb is tons of ram for gaming.

And there's Borderlands 4 or Monster Hunter Wilds or Oblivion Remastered, etc people have various issues with this year or year after year
yes there was always worse made game and better made game, it is overall a segment with quite the optimization effort.

Try to do a game engine with no culling or any optimization at all, you quickly realize how much you need to have anything running at all.

Imagine how better it could be if you hired competent people instead of just cut and paste 2 week bootcamp H1B and DEI code monkeys (no pun, literally a term you all know it) you're just gonna replace also with an AI code monkey anyway (which we know they want to do too - reinforcing them getting the best - aka cheapest - code monkeys they have now to hold them over in the meantime).

I would not assume a no 6060 (still on 8GB would not be surprising too), even if GDDR7 double again up to $10 per GB, a $320 in memory would not make a $2500-3000 gpu with them necessarily impossible to make work.

And many do and pay a lot for them (know quite a few in that field), CoD/Battlefield teams are filled with quite impressive people, even the Ubisoft engine guys are quite something.

Not really good cases of 'showing not being cut and paste code monkeys' with those examples to be frank. Nor Ubisoft with their DEI streak, even of notoriety of late. And look where it's gotten them. Plus the problem of consolidation in recent years so this hits almost all companies cause they're all part of the same either or company anyway.

Do you really think that the Battlefield 6 core teams are not filled of very well paid really good programmers ? If you look at Ubi core Anvil programmers teams, I am not sure you will see many typical DEI hires there, they tend to gravitate more in other spots.

If the people in charge of Battlefield engine/destruction system and so on are not good according to you, you just have a totally different bar (and do you ever talked coding/being interviewed by those type of people ?... that not the impression they gave me at all, big name working on big IP title get a lot of the kids that dreaming to code in game all their life knocking at their doors and first picks, a lot of the very best C++ guys I went to computer engineering with, that where they went)

Again for every 1 battlefield there's 6 other crap performing/shipped/etc games - year after year - exceptions don't disprove the rule.

People want to defend their friends, their jobs, I get it. We also all see the end results.

Y'all be sure to post those yt ads for "Fresh off the lot 5090 RTX! Starting at 5990.00, no down payment financing available! No credit checks!"

Kind of a shame, GPUs just started getting into their MSRP what, late summer? High launch prices, low availability. And now we're seeing prices go back up.

LOL. The 5090 isn't going to be $5000. I could see $2500-2700.

NV isn't that stupid. They'll quit selling/building 5090's before they dare put a price tag like that on them.
Oh you must have missed the $3500 variants on launch 😆

Jokes aside I could see the 5k price tag. If people have proven anything it’s that they will beg borrow and steal for a nvidia card especially when scarcity feels like a thing.

But what measure did it go up? Stock market of course, which doesn't measure the economy. When AI gets good enough to replace people from jobs then stocks will go up, but you wouldn't call that good for the economy.

No, GDP, like is always used.

The Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) on Tuesday released its initial estimate of third-quarter GDP, which showed the economy grew at an annualized rate of 4.3% in the three-month period including July, August and September.

America is not an economic zone nor just its economy nor must the line always go up at all costs above everything else, as the trend as, lets say, 'bankers and Wallstreet types', would have you believe. Communism and socialism are not the way by any means either, but that does not negate the fact that capitalism is an aspect of America, America is not, and only just, capitalism.

That's the problem of scraping down to the bottom of the barrel for every last penny of profit and corners cut you can muster to make line go up, as we are currently experiencing in many sectors/fields to many (unfortunately mainly high) degrees, including gaming.

It isn't about the retail price anymore. Its about the allocation. If they allocate the ram required to sell 32gb cards at $3000.... who is going to feed ram to the 100% operation version of those chips selling at $7000 to data centers. I would love to be wrong, I assume come the 6000 generation NV would rather warehouse 90% operational silicon rather then waste DDR7 chips selling them off as consumer parts. Maybe if the market was swimming in ddr7, but it isn't and likely won't be anytime soon.
I think all of us preying for a bubble burst of some kind are in for disappointment. The ram manufacturers are in no rush to increase production, the AI companies are all racing to fill their warehouses, and no one at NV or AMD wants to be sourcing ram chips for low margin consumer parts. Even at $3000 90 class cards are going to be low margin relatively at least. I feel confident that is the bad news we don't want based on the simple fact that right now datacenter builders are firing entire purchasing depts as their RAM purchase orders are being laughed at. There is nothing to sell them.

I’m sorry to break it to everyone, but I predict a zero chance of Jensen coming on stage at CES in January and saying “we’re increasing the MSRP of the 5090 to $5000 lmao”. You might get scalpers at one time in the future, maybe, charging that if supply constraints enable it, but this is going to be the official MSRP any time soon. More social media BS rumours.

I doubt they do anything on that level of F you either, they will simply stop making them. The point becomes moot if no one can buy a 5090 anymore.

Not exactly enlightening prediction. When has he ever done that? They’re already going for 3500

Agreed, however the sensationalism says "but muh ngreedia" so here we are on forums and social until then.

I think there is 2 small issues with that view.

Those RTX 6000 pro type of gpus, not sure they have that B200 level of insatiable demands for this to be an option (or they would always been doing) and $3000+ 90 series card margin are really high and could get giant, say if they start to sale only the die to AIB in charge of the memory part.... with a $3000, Nvidia could reach 75-80% margin rather easily.

The ram manufacturers are in no rush to increase production,
Yes they are like never before (with HBM yield being lower does not necessarily translate in much more actual working GB, but capex into production has been impressive):
https://www.ainvest.com/news/sk-hynix-accelerates-m15x-fab-production-meet-nvidia-demand-hbm4-2512/
https://www.reuters.com/sustainabil...s-100-billion-semiconductor-plant-2025-10-16/

The 17,000 page of environmental impact study slow things downs of course and the anti power-line people and so on, but the ram maker themselves all spent record amount to boost production those last few and upcoming years.

What possible is a move away from HBM prominence in the AI space, Rubin will use gddr for prefilling (and yield-quantity of ram per wafer is much higher), most of the announced capacity or the ram side of things can do non-HBM perfectly fine.

OF course not, you can just not make it with some a la AMD, we are thinking about the gamers, they do not want $2000 GPU and just not make it or you can announce it, make one but make a token amount.

Yea but, if any part of the American economy fails then the world economy also fails. Look at what happened in 2008. Now if the EU economy were to fail it would also have a similar effect because it's a major player in the world economy.

As much as we like to believe this, it's always a country that's either socialist or communist that always give America a hard time. The Chinese economy is not just socialism and communism but also capitalism as they embrace all good aspects of these economic systems. While we Americans embrace capitalism to a fault.

The problem goes much deeper than that. The issue with AI right now is that nobody is actually profitable, or at the very least not profitable enough to make more than they spend. In order for AI to be profitable then it would need to take jobs and that would ruin the economy. If AI based companies lose stock value then it will also crash the economy. Meanwhile our government is happily allowing this because they also want AGI. Why does our government want AGI? We should ask Edward Snowden that question.

datacenter build-out and all the activity around them could explain from 30 to 70% of the growth in 2025 in the USA depending on people.

In order for AI to be profitable then it would need to take jobs and that would ruin the economy.
Doing more with less humans work tend to be economic growth, it is hard to separate, tractors taking farm jobs was an hard shock but did not necessarily ruin the economy, AI could be different than every previous example ever if we are really optimistic on how good it would be, but we can have doubt that its capacity are doing human jobs will go faster than the explosion in demand / working age humans we can expect with the demography pyramids we have.

The issue with AI right now is that nobody is actually profitable, or at the very least not profitable enough to make more than they spend.
there is Meta, Google, (the people for who AI usage was profitable 3-4 years ago, tend to have just become more with their model getting better ).

Amazon is an other big one, walmart has well, that something people simply say without being much precise without looking at all I think here (do they really know tesla FSD is not actually profitable or just saying that the case...), are they looking why meta revenues incredible growth since 2022 before saying this ? the 2022->2025 revenues growth alone is bigger than 100% of their 2025 giant capex.

If the world economy falls with America or Europe's economy fails, America is still ahead of the bunch. America is not (should not be) the world police or babysitters. Especially on economic and financial matters. They can wipe their own asses and get themselves out of their own troubles.

China only adopted and uses capitalism since the mid 1970s primarily as a weapon, and means of control, on the world manufacturing/global economic/geopolitical stage and to it's own populace. CEOs disappearing after criticizing the country and what not. Again you praise them without living in the world they provide those they lord over. As said go ask the people in Africa how well working and living with the Chinese and their ways is working out for them. Even in China, they'll tell you poverty is irradicated, but if you go by other global metrics of poverty ~17% of their populace is still in poverty (more than America compared by those same metrics). You're suffering from propaganda and grass is always greener syndrome. America has had capitalism long before it was co-opted by - 'bankers and Wall Street types' - as it is today in America (and also as a weapon/means of influence globally), since the start the post WW2 world order (some say since the Fed in 1913).

AI is not (just) chatbots AI will be fine and here to stay.

This continues to be my take on EVGA leaving the market. Founder and exec basically said they're done with nV's shit and they yeeted out. They foresaw the dynamic that was coming and decided they didn't want to operate like that. Much respect to them. And by all accounts, the employees were given good notice periods with very cushy severance packages.

I honestly can't think of a precedent where a company actually took a conscious decision to close doors and not either run itself (and its employees) into ground and/or sell its bones to a competitor or private equity.

I bought an Asus Prime RTX 5070 Ti last week for €809 - as of today the price is now €949, and I suspect it will only get worse....

I doubt they do anything on that level of F you either, they will simply stop making them. The point becomes moot if no one can buy a 5090 anymore.

Correct. They will either stop selling it and moving priority to more profitable ventures, or there will be a moderate price increase applied with the justification that RAM prices require an additional cost adder to cover it, but the RAM price increase is not adding $3000 to the price of a $2000 GPU, I mean give me a break.

What they’re going for and what Nvidia’s official MSRP price is are not the same thing. Nvidia’s sale price during the crypto boom also didn’t match what they went for on that street. I can see them doing a slight increase to cover the change in RAM price, but the official price from Nvidia won’t be nearly as extreme as some suggest.

Cheapest aircooled 5090 is already $3400 - why wouldn't nVIDIA set their MSRP to match?
For similar reason that they did not the last many cycles.

Announcing and using "msrp" is a bit the norm and let you hit those lows during a cycle without having news of cutting price.

Nvidia, AMD GPU Prices Keep Dropping,
October 27, 2025

Thats only 2 months ago.

Using a moment to set price of what could still be the latest 2028 product is not necessarily the way to go, keeping low at msrp OEM price to have a predictable high margin you can keep all along is nice, press tour would be a pain and so on.,

This story makes me want to go spend $1000 Canuck pesos on a 5070 Ti...even though I'm still perfectly happy with my old 6700XT. And then I wonder if that's what they want and this is all BS anyway.
