when? It is debuted in about 2 weeks, but when do you all think it will be available for purchase? I am hanging onto this ti4200 for dear life trying to get through a few more weeks!!!

dont hold your breath, it still needs to be announced, and then who knows how long to get on the shelves...

Will there be a cheaper version of the nv40 w the same tech released at the same time? Some of the features its got sound cool but there is no way Im paying 500 for a card. Ive been holding onto this Geforce3 forever though and im going to break. If they arent releasing a more budget version (like 9800 xt vs 9600xt) im just going to get a 9800. I cant wait n e more.

i will pay no more than $300 for whatever cheaper version they have

killa my point is, because we dont know, historically how much later do cards come out after they are announced?

with ATi, announcement -> shelf is about 1 month, with nVidia, they have proven to be much less predictable. So we dont know :9

Yup... no one is entirely certain what the architecture of the NV40 is and whether or not IBM is having yield issues still. nVIDIA used to be pretty solid, somewhere between 30-45 days, if they're back on track, no reason why it would be any different.

saqdeez I hear ya!!! i'm holding onto a TI4200 for dear life too, and its getting harder by the day lol. We'll just have to be patient I guess

I'm BARELY holding on to my ti4400. I'm hoping that nvidia will have a non-ultra version of nv40 at release and it'll be 300 or less. I can justify anything up to 300 bucks...but anything over that it gets hard to justify.

i cant freakin wait to ditch this Ti4400 its okay in games still but its really starting to show its age over the last 6 months. i also am hoping waiting for a "ti4400" version of the NV40 for around 300-350 :) if they realease the ultra version for just over 400 i may go for that :)

yep yep yep, im probably going to break down and get a new 9800pro in a couple weeks.

Yeah, I'm holding onto a GF3 right now...

From what I've heard, nvidia is planning a full line of cards, however the high-end card will probably be the first out the door. No idea on when the others will come out, might be at the same time.

Rumors on the web are that the nv40 will be out sometime in May, probably mid to late May. But I have heard a few people say it may take only 2-3 weeks, which would be early May. Of course, this is all just hearsay :)

LOL guess what i just did? I broke down and got the 9800 pro yesterday

Instant gratification, gotta love it :D

I came to the conclusion that the new card will be atleast $350 and im not down with that so i have a 9800 now and am VERY pleased :) :)

It's supposed to be available immediately after the launch on the 15th but i'll believe that when it happens.

i was holding onto my ti4200, til it died earlier today :( splinter cell was acting all goofy so i rebooted and NO VIDEO blah. pulled my PNY ti4200 out and there is a spot that looks all over heated and melted. got lucky i have a buddy that upgrades like crazy and he gave me his OLD ti4600 for $70.

bleh i'm barely holding onto my my ti4600! Sorry, I just can't justify running games at under 1280x1024 :) I need the next gen now, It would make running the World of Warcraft Beta so much more enjoyable :)

I haven't heard that anywhere. It'd be nice if it happened, but yeah, don't hold your breath.

"if you do buy a 9800pro you may be dissapointed when the NV40 hits and is 20-50%better"

ZIP IT

Indeed the truth pierces the wicked to the very center of their being. Who says NV40 cant be 20-50% better??

I will be very dissapointed if the NV40 and R420 are only 50% better, considering that both companies have said that they are hoping to at the least double their current performance. (NVs CEO has said this in an inteview at beyond3d IIRC, and I can't remember when ATI said that)

Actually, I would be dissapointed if the NV40 wasnt at least 20% faster. Considering the 9800 Pro is $200 now, and the NV40 and R420 will likely be $500 everywhere for the first few weeks to a month, the 9800 Pro still wouldnt be a bad deal at all.

I do like that you said "better" and not "faster" though.

Not to forget that the 9800 Pro is also based on a core that is well over a year old :)

hopefully the ghetto version isnt a repeat of the 5700

9800pros are only 200 bucks now, get on your knees nvidiots :p

I wait to NV45 as usally nvidia will realise nv45 as atweakes nv40...
look back to the nv20>nv25 and nv30>35

yeah if i had a 9700pro id wait 2, good for you, for those of us with GF3,4s most just cant wait much longer :)

Just get a 9800 Pro now.

I'm not sure what you folks are waiting for (those with Ti4200, MX440, 8500LE and the likes).

If you want to spend $500 for the latest uber nVidia or ATI card when it comes out, then fine, but since some of you have DX7 cards, it doesn't sound like you'll be spending $500 for the latest now does it?

Guess what, you'll still be playing the waiting game.

You're not likely to get a better deal and you will be missing out on fun.

I purchased my 9800 Pro many months ago and have enjoyed it to the fullest :D

Its amazing some of you holding onto those old video cards, I had my 9700pro -9800pro (had to upgrade do to a bad 9700pro) for well over a year now and i"m ready to upgrade if the new video cards are that much faster... ANd I'm really cheap.

I wouldn't be so quick to pull the trigger -- NV40 has already been shown to perform 100% faster than current generation cards in at least one DX9-heavy benchmark:

NV40 3DMark03 Score = 12,500+

Even if the NV40 is a $400 card, 1) twice the dollars for twice the performance sounds like a pretty fair deal (ten times better than the nearly double you have to pay for the 5-7% performance gain of the 9800XT over the Pro), and 2) the NV40 will be far more futureproof as we are just now about to embark on the next generation of games (starting with Farcry, D3, and HL2).

If you don't eat out for a month, you'll have the $100 or so extra ready by the time it comes out.

i'm not buying anything untill doom 3 is on the shelves. my ti4200 works for the few games i play now so i don't really see a reason to upgrade yet

I just sold my stock in AMD and made $750 in profit, so thats why i'm waiting .. I have the $500+ to buy the NV40 or R420 when they come out ... I just cant wait heh

I'm all for waiting if possible (if not that 9800pro is a great card at a very good price), but don't pre-order the nv40 on the basis of the INQ's article :p . They were putting out the same kind of crap when the nv30 was in the works. The INQ seems to ascribe to the motto "If you throw enough shit at the wall, some of it has got to stick".

its been over 3years since i got my gf3 ti500. at the time it was a decent purchase over my gf2 32mb card but wasnt leaps and bounds as i soon found out. thank god my p4 can handle games with everything low. ever since then i was pretty wary of buying into the hype and getting another card every year.

i've been playing the waiting game to have a card worth my $400 well i guess it'll be $500 now. so its not so bad if i make the leap and buy one. i'm gonna wait for the r420 first and see. if the performance doesnt differ much i'm getting a 6800U. my last option would be picking up a 9800pro 128mb and flashing it to XT lvls.

i held off on purchasing the 9700 and 9800 because i still didnt need them at the time and was still debating on the drivers and lack of resolution options available compared to nvidias offering. of course i suffered w/o good IQ and anything over 1280x resolutions well more like 1028x res.

with these new gen cards it wouldnt be impossible to play with ridiculous resolutions now. something that i have wanted to do for a very long time. in the end it'll be a good investment in my book. this year is looking very good for me as far as comp hardware is concerned.;)

Heh, re-reading all these drudged up threads is amusing. Now if only I could locate half the posters and give them a well deserved Simpson's HA HA.
