Nioh 3

Just finished the demo, really enjoyed it so now I’m out $70. Really didn’t want to spend that but I expect a lot of content.

I’m probably going to be in ninja mode for 99% of the game.

Why is co-op so damn easy? Every time I become a visitor in someone's world it's 3v1 against the boss the the boss goes down in seconds. Literally seconds. Absolutely zero challenge. Shouldn't the boss difficulty scale up with number of players?
Ha, damn. Originally was planning on buying this to play with my brother, I was already on the fence since you don't progress your story if you are in someone elses game, but making it deadass easy is even worse. I guess i'll just play it single player and do multiplayer missions? Do those scale better or is it still a cakewalk no matter what multiplayer mode you are in?

Try it out with your bro. Since you'd only be 2 people, maybe it won't be so easy. It's also possible that I've been playing with over-leveled people in the demo.

I’m about 11-12 hours in including time spent in the demo, really loving it so far. Way better than 1/2 imo. Of course any negative review on Steam is related to performance. So far haven’t really been able to get stable frame rates on my laptop but it runs like a dream on my desktop. Damn well better lol.

I'm enjoying the full game a lot more than the demo. Exploration has gotten a lot better now that there's all of these branching paths.

Gotta be careful though, you'll lose track of time. "I'll just play for an hour" ... 5 hours later and you'll realize you forgot to eat dinner.

My only complaint at this point is that the graphics are still trash. I do like the character models though and I like the funny looking running animations that are a trademark of Team Ninja games.

Lol. The graphics are decent and the running animations are atrocious 😂

You ever see Tina run in Bob’s Burgers? Yeah it’s like that.

Something is up with DLSS frame gen in this game. When I enable it and pan my camera, I can see an extremely noticeable judder that seems to occur exactly every half second.

When I switch over to FSR 3 frame gen, things are buttery smooth!

I didn't realize that there were so many low level areas in the western portion of the map. I did all the higher level areas up north first. Now everything in the west is way too easy. I'm just spamming the square button and breezing through everything. Also, where are the bosses? So many areas cleared, so few bosses. Hoping it picks up soon because it's kind of boring just fighting the same common field enemies over and over again.

Are you still in the first area? Difficulty definitely picks up after that. Have you fought any bosses with Demon in the name?

If by first area you mean the first continent then yes. I haven't done the main objective at Futamata castle yet so I'm assuming there's a major boss there. I'm working my way through haunting caves now. Haven't fought any demon bosses yet, just a couple of bloodedge demons.

I've noticed highs and lows in regards to difficulty, you're definitely in a low, it'll pick up don't worry.

Yep things have definitely picked up now that I'm tackling the main objective. Did a couple of bosses (one in Futamata castle and another in the crucible dungeon that follows).

So far the main boss in the demo was the hardest of the bunch. Maybe that's because I was new to the game and/or my level was a lot lower than it is right now.

I think that doing all the side stuff before the main objective makes you overleveled, at least in the first region. For example, I'm not trying to farm exp at all, I'm just running through the various sub-regions and exploring thoroughly. And doing that has gotten me to level 58 before even tackling the main objective at Futamata castle. And the Futamata region recommends something like level 36.

Are you still working your way through or did you beat the game already?

Also why is this thread so empty? Are people sick of souls games at this point?

Yeah the first boss in the demo gave me a lot of trouble, as did the big wondering dude.

I’m still working my way through it, just recently made it to the third main region and hit level 100.

You can be sure to find me in every Souls-like thread lol. I am also surprised at the lack of action here, the first two got a lot and this one is sooo much better imo.

Nioh 2 was well received but overall the series doesn't have the mainstream appeal of the Souls series/From Software...the one major thing that kept me from playing the first 2 Nioh games was the map-based mission structure...Nioh 3 seems more like the Souls games I prefer with its semi open world

Just beat it, 90% achievements and it took about 60 hours. Honestly by the end I just started running through it and skipped almost every cutscene. Good game but everything just felt so “samey” by then. I was playing as ninja pretty much exclusively and thought for my next run to do the same as samurai, but honestly just don’t feel compelled to get into ng+. The Nioh series just really doesn’t rock me, still prefer this one to the first two though.

Things feel samey to me and I'm only in the 2nd region. Lots of copied and pasted enemies. Seems to be a recurring theme in Team Ninja games because I remember complaining about that in Wo Long too.

Another issue with the game is that anything that isn't a boss doesn't really feel dangerous. I find myself approaching every enemy with confidence knowing that my character moves fast and can just dodge out of the way of any danger.

I felt much more of a sense of danger in Elden Ring since even non-bosses can wreck your shit (e.g. crucible knights). I wish Nioh was more like that.

I think nioh's main problem is to much repitition. I'm currently doing the underworld in n2 and it's literally the same half dozen levels and the same enemies over, and over again, only more tuned up than previously. It get's tiring. Not to mention it's the absolute most grindy game ever made. I level 750'd my character a couple weeks ago, only to discover, and I had no clue this was even a thing, there is literally another 1000 ghost levels at 3 billion xp per .2 of a level per 'level' so you literally need 15billion xp to get 1 addition point into attack. But that's an extra 250 points into attack all said and done. But still way to much, I don't see how people can do it. But I've some pretty crazy amrita farm builds that can literally get 15billion in 2 minutes, but most people aren't doing anything of the sort. Not to mention the amount of coin you need to farm to increase loot at the underworld vendor, it's insane. It seems like a very carrot on a stick type thing to me, and way to much for no payoff

so the semi-open world doesn't really change up the gameplay?...I was thinking it would improve the game

Oh yeah. By the end especially the game was soooo damn easy. Even the final boss took me maybe 4 tries.

I don't know, I was referring to Nioh 2. I still haven't tried the N3 demo yet. But I doubt it'll change the way the game plays too dramatically. Still very much all the same stuff for the most part.

^Nothing wrong with that at all, I'd say well done actually. The human bosses cheat so bad in N2 it's not even funny (not sure if that's considered a human or yokai) I find most Yokai bosses to be total pushovers anymore, but the humans...good god.

I see you're running low stance constantly, I run low stance pretty much exclusively with my Split staff character as well and only use a single high stance attack (dragon dance) for crazy damage against out of ki enemies.

I don't think my brain is ready for the multitasking of switching stance mid-fight. I play these games in a pretty basic manner and I like the quick slice and dice of low stance. But I should probably branch out and try new things to keep it fresh. Especially since each stance gets its own unique skills.

Ibaraki Doji gave me a really hard time. Finally got her in this attempt. Not my proudest work but I'm happy I did it in samurai form. Seems like this fight was made for parrying. Also she didn't do a single red attack in the whole 4 minutes wtf... I wonder if it's because I was in her face the whole time.

Wow the Health Bar wasn't going down at all she looks like Gwen Stephani

Same...I played and loved the first two games and never switched stances!

I never really switched stances in the first two, even less in this one as I spent maybe 20 min as samurai (and you only switch stances as samurai) in 60 hours.

Technically you should be switching stances, but I'm no one to tell others how to play their games. Low stance for general purpose and then high for big damage (how I play anyway). Mid stance is pretty mid (pun intended!) and I never use it, but maybe not for all weapons types. I've only ever really played with splitstaff and spears, but dropped the spear pretty early on and went splitstaff exclusively. I actually rebound the mid stance key to something way far off so I don't accidentally hit it lol.

Have you been spending much time as ninja?

no I haven't. I'm not particularly interested in the 'throwable' style of gameplay. I stick to onmyo exclusively, which I hear has been butchered amongst many other things in N3. Also I'm a Split-staffer 100%, which now is apparently tied to the ninja stance, because 'reasons' I guess. I'm a pole arm weapon type user in all these kinds of games. Given the option, I will pick this type over any other weapon type every time.

There seems to be a lot of questionable things/changes implemented into N3. The more I look into it, the more I'm not too enthused with it tbh. I just came across this vid last night and its got me just saying wtf. Seems like a very poor execution and down right amateurish even.

I used Onmyo and Ninjutsu but mostly just melted things up close with elemental Tonfas. Pretty much straight skill and magic build.

I only watched the first few minutes of that video but I saw literally zero of these performance issues and bugs in my entire run. Not sure what kind of potato those guys are running on that they couldn’t get decent frame rates at 1080p.

My complaint with it is that it lacks depth. I was just bored by the end of it fighting samey enemies the samey way in just ever so slightly different environments. It’s also far too easy IMO. I still also hate the loot system, it takes a surprisingly short amount of time to max out your inventory of 2000 items and it’s straight tedium cleaning it up.

^ very true on all points, and I agree

*I wanted to mention, but didn't have time just then, but they do make some pretty valid points in that vid. One particular thing that I find rather odd is the change to the way yokai abilities work. Kinda scratching my head as to why they'd do that. In N2 they're an excellent way to keep the pressure on and as a way to stack debuffs like Confuse and what not, and in many boss fights they're practically mandatory. What they did doesn't even sound fun to me. I'd much rather have the snappy abilities than basically what amounts to a summons that fights by your side for a bit. And again quite a bit of other things that are questionable to me, I'm not even sure if I will ever buy it to be completely honest. Everything about it just kinda seems like a stripped down version and odd changes/inclusions. No offense to anyone who is enjoying the game though, to each their own.
