Shield TV is nearly perfect for such duties. I have a PC in the living room though so the shield is in my bedroom.

Yooka-Laylee. Anyone get it? How is it? I am going to purchase it digitally once I get home from work.

I haven't heard good things about Yooka-Laylee in general, so...

It's holding at a 80 Metascore at the moment out of 8 reviews and 9.5 User Score. I watched some gameplay and it reminded me of the great platformers from the past.

Perhaps. I would consider that it has very few reviews overall and mainly by what appears to be Spanish sites for some reason.

I think the main complaint I heard was that it was very similar to those old platformers but basically took nothing that has been learned in the decade or so since to improve on that formula. So I guess if you want a clone of Banjo-Kazooie with better graphics, that's basically what this is.

Apparently the Switch version is pretty good. There are problems with the game itself, but opinions seem pretty split on if its a good game or not. The developers have done a lot of work fixing it up and apparently the Switch version includes some new optimizations. I'm thinking of picking it up as well.

It's $40 apparently on the Nintendo Shop so at least it's not $60 if it doesn't hold up well, but i'd be lying if I didn't say i've been looking forward to it from the gameplay i've seen.

Looks cool...I am surprised there are not more cases out there that fit in the dock, and the price they are asking for this thing is just too high at the moment.

That doesn't actually look too bad, at least it seems to protect the more fragile connection and rails between the Switch and Joy Cons.

Amazon put up placeholder listings for 18 unnamed Switch titles. This could speak to the truth of that big rumor about Nintendo holding a big Switch Direct in Jan.

I'm considering breaking down and buying a Switch. Mario, Zelda, and possibly Xenoblade.

At this point give me the good, bad, and ugly no bs skinny up and down on how stable/reliable the hardware is and is the Internet digital setup worth anything or would you all recommend sticking to physical media as much as possible on the Switch? I'd probably spring for the pro controller as well.

I see a lot of regulars in here that I know don't tolerate BS so that tells me something as I lurk and catch up in this thread. ;)

Just so I'm clear on this:

What is the actual save game situation like on Zelda?

Saves are tied to the switch they were created on and you can't back up saves on external storage. So if your switch dies so do your saves.

This has always bothered me about Nintendo and save data. Sure, protect and encrypt your software, but I should be able to do whatever the hell I want with my save data. Bring it to a friends house, post it online, whatever. An example of where this would have been really handy, is that I lost my flash stick with BotW for the Wii U, and would have loved to have been able to download a save file that was at roughly the same position in the game to continue. It's ok, because I just restarted, and am already past that point after a couple of weekends of play, but I don't see why people shouldn't be able to do that if they feel like it. That's probably my only complaint with Nintendo actually. User data should be handled how the User sees fit.

At the very least on the 3DS you could just do a simple copy of the SD card to backup your save data.

I'd like to see Nintendo implement a cloud save feature for the Switch and i'm not sure why they didn't have this feature out of the box. I'm mostly concerned about what happens to my save games for games like Stardew Valley, Zelda, etc

Yeah, I'm mostly interested in the same thing (keeping my own personal saves safe) though a bit more flexibility would be nice as well. This would also be important if we see more of the procedural games show up, as I really value my saves for things like Sundered and Dead Cells. It takes quite a while to build up a character for something like that (or Stardew Valley as well as you say) and losing that like I did with my BotW saves would really suck. A simple dump to SD would be fine, but after years of cloud saves with Steam, I'd love to see that too on the Switch.

I think you can within the same system, but I don't think you can pull in a save that was tied to another Wii U. That was where the problem was for me. I just didn't have that flash stick anymore and had to start over (I'm sure it's still in my house somewhere... :D )

Nintendo's online service history has been...not great. They don't even have the paid service up yet and it keeps getting delayed.

They definitely need to implement a feature like this (especially if there is no other way to do it) but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Something which looks okay but is it really true that Nintendo will make this a truly versatile handheld ?

Still nothing on a new Smash. C'mon Nintendo - that's the game that has the highest ceiling. Smash 2 and 4 are still HUGE in spite of both being on dead systems.

Other than Metroid Prime Switch, I kinda don't care about any of those games. :\

New Smash would be great, though.

I'm with you on that for the most part. I do like a Kirby game though once in a while. (as easy as they are :D ) I've also read good things about the new Ys game, though I haven't played one since the TurboGrafx. They've got a nice stream of independent stuff trickling in though, which I like. I REALLY wish they'd do a huge PROPER 2D Metroid game on the Switch. That would be amazing.

If you're interested in Y's game check out The World Ends With You Final Remix. It's considered one of the best JRPGs on DS.

Interesting, I'll do that. I don't have as much time to play this sort of thing as I used to, but the fact that it's on a portable helps. Means I can play before I go to sleep at night. :D

If they're going to do a Smash this year it'll be announced at E3 and released later in the year. Either that or it's going to be a 2019 thing.

Nintendo has a good reason now to spread all of those first party titles around. They could burn themselves with releasing to many in a short period of time

Indeed. Not only could it cause Nintendo to compete with themselves in terms of game releases but it could also hurt 3rd party sales. Nintendo needs to encourage 3rd parties to jump on board and if their game releases prevent 3rd party titles from selling well then it will be yet another Nintendo system where only 1st party titles are worth buying and that isn't good for anyone.

Tropical freeze was one of two games from WiiU that I was hoping would come over. Now just waiting for Xenoblade Chronicles X announcement hopefully.

Ys VIII is great. One of the best games and very under rated like all the other Ys games. PC version should be out in the next few months also. It is one of two games that I ever platinum.

If you haven't picked up Steamworld Dig 2 yet give that a try to hold you over. It's a solid game. I liked it more than Axiom Verge as it's generally a bit more user friendly.

Axiom Verge is one of my recent all time favorites. I actually got sucked right in and instantly, and felt right at home with it. (people tend to think I'm crazy when I say this, but I actually like it more than Super Metroid) However I loved the first Steamworld Dig game. I've been planning to grab the new one for a while now, but haven't had time yet. Definitely on the grab-list though.
